Rating: Summary: The Most Sensual Dracula to Date - Gerard Butler is Fabulous Review: Though I enjoyed this take on the Dracula story very much I have to say that the casting punched this movie up to my top ten "girls night in" flicks. I've always loved the sensual vampire theme, but never saw a Dracula I couldn't resist until now. When this vampire says, "come to me" it never occurs to you to do anything else. Girls, check it out!
Rating: Summary: Terrible. Review: It's hard for me to think of even one good thing to say about this movie. It has Jennifer Esposito in it. There. I'm done.
Rating: Summary: Good movie with an interesting twist Review: Dracula 2000 was a good movie only if you keep an open mind about the movie. If you are the type of person who is looking a for a on-the-edge of your seat horror flicks, then this is not the movie for you. If you are the type of person who wants a little horror and action mixed together, then this is the movie for you. At first this movie starts a little slow, and seems to be like a crappy modern retale of a classic story. However, things change very quickly. The best part of this movie is where the orgins of Dracula are told. I am NOT going to tell you about this because I do not want to ruin the movie for you. I will say that it is an interest outake on the Dracula legend, and a much better one too! This movie also contains a killer soundtrack, and a little bit of pop culture is added into the movie a la Mardi Gras. I would recommend this movie to anyone, especially fans of vampire-type horror films. Gerard Butler portrays Dracula with a wonderful performance.
Rating: Summary: Wes Craven Presents A Pretty Good Movie Review: 'Dracula 2000' isn't very original, but has great cast, good soundtrack, good special effects, and great acting. The opening sequence is a little disturbing but later on in the movie you will understand it. I really thought this was a very good movie. The soundtrack was good, I liked the vampire special effects, the acting had you in the moment. I espically enjoyed the cast full of great performers including: Jonny Lee Miller, Justine Waddell, Omar Epps, Sean Patrick Thomas, Jennifer Esposito, Lochlyn Monroe, Danny Masterson, Colleen Fitzpatrick aka Vitamin C, Christopher Plummer, Jeri Ryan, Shane West, and Gerard Butler as the well-acted Dracula. You should see it.
Rating: Summary: Gerard Butler is a beautiful man! Review: I really enjoyed Dracula 2000. It had an interesting story, great special effects and it made me laugh. The cast were very good, although Jennifer Esposito was a bit annoying. I also thought Vitamin C had some funny lines. But by far the best person in the cast is Gerard Butler, who played Dracula. He is an incredibly sexy man, and I REALLY hope to see him in many more films. And he has the most beautiful eyes (and lips) I have ever seen. I thoroughly recommend this film!
Rating: Summary: More Marketing Mayhem and Pusillanimous Product Placement Review: Here's an interesting tidbit: in Hong Kong, this movie was marketed as Dracula: 2001. So if the actual year didn't really matter, why put it in the title at all? The supposition is that there was going to be something apocalyptically millennial about this movie, but that wasn't so. In fact, the essence of the movie, the thing that made it different from other vampire films and gave it a special quality took place some 2000 years earlier. It is this, the "secret identity" of Dracula (and no, it isn't Bruce Wayne!) that Wes Craven deserves kudos for. I'm sorry to say that in every other respect I thought this was simply an average movie at best. For the most part, the acting was atrocious, special effects appalling (consisting primarily of various contact lenses), and storyline tedious. There were a few clever lines--after killing one of the vampires, Jonny Lee Miller's character got a laugh with "Don't ever ... with an antiques dealer!"; and in an homage to Bela Lugosi, Gerard Butler as Dracula says "I never drink...coffee." Hardly worth the price of admission, though. But what really disgusted me was not the sight of blood, but the sight of product placement--I refuse to even name the company involved, but every 15 minutes we got yet another ad. Sorry, but my take on this is that if they've got vampires in their stores, I don't want to be anywhere around, even if their selection is the best in town. Anyway, you can get anything they have here at Amazon. So save your soul from the undead, leave this one to gather dust on the shelves, and go watch at truly scary movie like Alien instead.
Rating: Summary: Always nice to see my city in a movie.... Review: Yes, that is about the only redeeming quality of this film. And you dont even get enough of it. New Orleans is always intriguing, yet this story is dreadful. Come on, people. Not a bit of it made any sense, and I am a vampire eficianado. I have read every vampire book, seen every vampire movie and played every vampire game and this is absolutely the worst ever since the video game version of Vampire the Masquerade came out! The curly haired guy from That 70's Show is the second thing worth seeing this movie for and he has a very short part. Without him and New Orleans this would get zero stars from me.
Rating: Summary: Dracula with a different sense of style and a big twist... Review: "Dracula 2000" certainly gets off to an interesting beginning with its Mission: Impossible assault on whatever treasure is buried in the Van Helsing vault. It also makes better use of the vampire babes, including Jeri Ryan, than any Dracula film I have ever seen, and the wire work in the fight sequences is more than adequate. However, ultimately this film rests on the twist at the end, when Dracula's "true" identity is revealed. I spent a couple of days trying to have it make sense, in terms of world history, religion and vampire lore (not necessarily in that order), and only a Hollywood Executive would think this was a good idea. Yes, at face value it sounds good; certainly will make audience members sit up and go "No way!" But that initial shock will soon give way to a different feeling, best expressed as "No way!" Still, on balance, fans of the Dracula and vampires should definitely check this one out. It definitely gives you much more food for thought than the vast majoroity of films in this growing genre.
Rating: Summary: Typical Craven garbage. Review: This is one of those films that tries hard to be more than it really is. It tries to make us believe that there are alot of clever concepts and things that have never been done before. But really all it is is a B-grade horror film with some fancy effects. The start is promising and every now and again there are glimmers of interest. Christopher Plummer was excellent as he always is and his side kick was interesting. But there the interesting cast stops dead in it's tracks. The daughter is overacted as is every single vampire in the film except for Dracula himself. He in a vain and futile attempt to appear different and exciting goes to the other extreme. Here we have a Dracula with no personality whatsoever. All he does is walk around and grin like a fool. he has no interesting lines, he has no exceptional actions. He is just so incredibly boring. Wasn't Dracula meant to be charismatic. Not this one. When asked a couple of my friends said basiclly that the actor is hot. So maybe that is what the film is all about. Not story or deep ideas, nor interesting characters or a whole new concept. Just a good looking actor for girls to stare at. Not even a pause for him waking up in modern New Orleans. He reacts like he has seen it all and knows it all. His speech and mannerisms are modern and not from someone who has been locked in a casket for centuries. Chessy one liners, people flying through the air, a Dracula that makes you want to yawn and a uninspired plot makes this one movie that should have stayed in the coffin. If you want a good vampire film, give Interview with a vampire a go. If you want to see Plummer and the cool beginning then rent this before buying.
Rating: Summary: Best Dracula movie to come out in years! Review: Take the original Bram Stoker text of Dracula and give it a read. Now that you're done with that, watch this movie. That's it. It's a sequel, and it's done PHENOMENALLY well. Don't expect modern day Anne Rice-style vampirism. This is the original dashing, demonic fiend. Everything about Stoker's vampires are explained, and the reason you get a lot of Christian mythos here is because the original work was full of it. Rather than turn away from the difficult task of having an "old school" vampire as so many writers do, (thanks to Anne Rice) Dracula 2k jumps in full force and takes on the Christian symbolism in a surprisingly obvious and clever way. If you thought Dracula was the definitive work on Vampire fiction (as I do) Dracula 2k is an amazingly good disc. If you think that Interview with the Vampire is the definitive work, stay away from this movie at all costs!
