Review: This was a pretty good film which was similar to BEETLEJUICE. I love that song at the end (Don't fear the reaper, by The Mutton Birds) Overall a clever plot and brilliant special F/X.

Review: frightening, funny, nifty. Okay. that's my review. To the guy who said "good special effects for a low budget movie'' I'm pretty sure it wasn't low budget.....I think a few other reviews (by movie critics) said the special effects were spectacular but not the whole plot or showy. And does anyone know where I can get the song at the end of the movie? I know someone who needs it for a thing they're doing for class.

Review: I never saw the movie before but bought it because I was curious. This movie is great. I recommend this to anyone who likes movies. The DVD is excellent and the sound is superb. I'm glad I added this to my collection. My friends were very skeptical about it because they never look for a movie starring Michael J. Fox in it but they were shocked at how good it was. This movie had some great special effects in it. All of the acting was great, even Horse Tooth Busey,Jr. was cool. Get this, you won't regret it.

Review: New Zealand film wunderkind Peter Jackson's first American film, "The Frighteners," died a quick and ugly death in theaters shortly after its release, only to return and haunt the film libraries of a small and loyal group of fans. Jackson, who made his name with a series of spectacularly gory low-budget horror flicks, surprised the world with his Oscar-nominated true-crime drama "Heavenly Creatures" (a must see) and went on to make this more mainstream film with producer Robert Zemeckis. Michael J. Fox, in a surprisingly good performance, is phony ghostbuster Frank Bannister; a car accident left him able to talk with the dead, and now he consorts with three amusing losers from the spirit world to con the unsuspecting residents of the town of Fairwater. But soon Frank has a problem on his hands: the spectral source of the town's recent rash of mystery heart attacks has reared its ugly head. It's cloaked and skeletal. It's got a switchblade scythe. And Frank is the only one who can stop it. The ghostly killer is somehow related to a decades-old murder spree and a frightened woman in a creepy old house-- and to Frank's own dark past as well. Jackson's filmmaking has a giddy, eerie funhouse energy to it, and the film veers from disturbing thrills to surreal sight gags and one-liners with whiplash speed. Surprisingly, it all works, thanks to a smart script, dazzling visuals and special effects, and several fine performances. Most notable is Jeffrey Coombs' Special Agent Dammers, a high-strung FBI agent who comes across as Jim Carrey playing Hitler. If you're looking for something conventional, you may leave this film scratching your head. But if you enjoy slightly off-kilter entertainment, you'll be glad you dug this one up. Poignant, creepy and very funny, "The Frighteners" is a bundle of ghoulish fun.

Review: "The Frighteners" is an excellent film! The special effects are first rate considering the low-budget of the movie. Jeffrey Combs plays crazy Agent Dammers to perfection ("Stop! You're violating my terratorial bubble.") And Jake Busey turns in a memorable performance as deranged Johnny Bartlett. "The Frighteners" is a great blend of horror and comedy, and without the combination, the movie would have been bland, but the director pulls it off. The best aspect of the film is its originality. Never before have I seen a horror movie so clever (with the possible exception of "The Blair Witch Project"). This movie never fails to thrill me. A GEM OF A HORROR MOVIE!

Review: The special effects in this movie ispire awe! The scene in the jail with the 2 ghosts and Bartlett sounds fantastic on a Dolby digital sytem, because the you seem to hear the ghosts at a full 360 degrees, with them hovering and fighting around you

Summary: Great filk, okay DVD
Review: I really wanted more on this DVD of one of my favorite films. But the "bonus materials" amount to some cast notes and a trailer, and the sound quality keeps fluxing in and out, getting quieter whenever the sound gets loud. I thought it might be my TVs "smart sound," but its done it on three different systems. But the Frighteners still rocks! And to the guy who said the love interest was unneccessary: who cares? Trini Alvererdo is hot!

Summary: JEFFREY COMBS STEALS THE SHOW
Review: Let's start off by stating that the special effects in The Frighteners are first-rate and truly unique. And behind all those effects is a great story line which, although at times is a little rushed, keeps up with the fast pace of the rest of the film. And every character, right down to the often jawless Judge (fine women...good teeth), has loads of personality and dialogue. As stated before, the plot moves at a relatively fast speed, and so many things happen in such a small amount of time that your heart-rate really begins to increase. As if all that weren't enough, Jeffrey Combs' gives what I believe to be the best performance in movie history. He plays his crazy FBI agent role to perfection, and the moment Combs is introduced I just stare and marvel at how brilliant and cool his character is. Even after Combs dies he continues to make me laugh, and if there was any justice in the world he would have won every "best supporting actor" award there is. All this, plus an inspired score by Danny Elfman, make The Frighteners one of the best movies of the decade.
