Summary: A Classic
Review: HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES is a fantastic and classic horror film. The reason I saw this movie is because I enjoyed Rob Zombie's music {White Zombie and solo} and I thought it was cool that he was taking a intrest in love of horror films and he was actually going to make one and knowing from the music videos and cd's I knew it was going to be good and I was right. I'm a not fan of more recent horror movies {except for the remake of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Dawn Of The Dead"} cause I think the horror film genre has went down hill after the 80's. I really enjoyed this movie cause its like a classic horror movie and its set in a cool time peroid and its not one of those horror movies that make things so techinal. This is one of the most original horror movies that I have seen in a long time. I just hope the sequel is just as good.

DVD: The DVD was alright but I would like to see the unrated version.

Summary: Good Halloween Flick
Review: when i first rented this movie, i really didnt know what to expect. but when i put it on, i was drawn into it from the '70s halloween feel it was giving. the movie starts out great but then as you head towards the end of it, it really starts to slack off on things, and you really don't know whats going on. it can get cheesey sometimes, but not enough to make you turn it off. house of 1000 corpses is a good flick to put on aorund halloween time. but if you're just looking for a movie to watch, don't watch this.

Summary: laughable at best
Review: No doubt I will upset a number of Rob Zombie fans for saying this, but Zombie's "masterpiece" is disposable cinema. The idea behind the film is good, and I give Zombie credit for that, but apart from the plot foundation the only thing this movie has going for it is the soundtrack. The building blocks of this movie are poor dialogue and gratuitous and unnecessary use of slow motion and photo-negativity, but those blocks alone don't destroy a movie. It was the editing that ultimately did this turkey in. Editing offenses in the movie are too frequent and too many to categorize and list, but it approximated what a 10 year old could have accomplished with the same equipment and production staff. Nearly every cut left me confused at how a film like this could have got the green light in the first place. Then I remembered the loyal legions of Rob Zombie's fans, and it all made sense. Add to the mix a denoument both predictable and at the same time, oddly enough, anticlimactic, and you have an 88 minute educational film about how NOT to make a movie (Yes, even a horror movie). Unless you are a die hard Rob Zombie fan, save yourself the time and money!

Summary: Searching For Meaning
Review: I think we are passed the stage in film making when shock films took the box offices by their suspenders, so to speak. I would love to hear what Rob Zombie has to say about the engenderment of this movie? What is the point? I watched this film twice, both times searching for some trace of meaning or poignancy, some hint at a reason for the production of this movie. I could not. The gratuitous (or not gratuitous, depending on your point of view) violence seems totally devoid of a purpose other than that cliched "no purpose" sentiment. There could be some semblance of a shot directed at the pathetic and insignificant serial killers that have "plagued" our society; however, they are mentioned only briefly and given cursory descriptions and quickly loose any effect that they might have had.
The movie seems trite and banal-i don't know what else to say.

Summary: What a twisted mind imagines
Review: This movie is definitly one of the most sick and funny horror movies i have ever seen. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was definitly a classic because of it's raw depiction and i think this movie ranks somewhere close to it. On top of just being sick and twisted it is also funny. What kind of person can get to the point of being the way these people are in this movie. Rob Zombie has one hell of a imagination. This movie shows it in graphic detail. There were no elaborate special effects in this and that is what makes it better in my opinion. I give it 4 stars because with everything else it was kinda corny. But nonetheless worth having if your a horror movie fanatic like iam.

Summary: House of 1000 Corpses
Review: This movie was cool. It was a little bit of alot of horror flicks I've seen and then some. This was creative but sick at the same time. Whoever wrote it had some imagination!

Summary: Wha' happen'd
Review: I had heard only positive reviews of this film and have to admit I was extremely curious about it. Finally, returning to the realm of REAL horror, a splatter film in the post-Scream world. I waited for a nice, dark night to sit down and watch it, all a jitter. It starts out wonderfully, the blend of dizzing direction and music lets you know you're in for an awesome experience and when the four hapless teenagers take in a hitchhiker, I was ready for the carnage to begin. So, what happened?

Shallow characters? Sure, but that's a horror movie for you. Plus, the Firefly family is fun, grotesque, exciting, disgusting all at once. And then the movie just kind of fizzles due to overly-pretentious direction and confusion. As a fellow reviewer pointed out, it degrades into how many horrible ways you can torture unsympathetic teenage characters and for what? This movie hints at a plot but never follows through with one, making the end a garbled mess. A shame.

Summary: Pass the ketchup.
Review: Some folks seem to be getting their knickers in a twist. Either this flick was a cheap imitation of the slasher films of the Seventies, or it substituted blood and gore for a plot, or it wasn't "cool" enough with its gore (whatever that means), yada yada yada.

Horse feathers. The horror genre really isn't my cup of tea (make that cherry Kool-Aid), but I could darn sure tell that Rob Zombie (bet that's his real name) decided his HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES was going to do everything but take its grimy, gory self seriously. This movie slices and dices while rehashing and recycling the same old tired plot about four kids in the wrong place at the wrong time, yet the extra zaniness and insanity keeps the story from growing as stale as the loaf of bread on my kitchen counter. Zombie, even though he's paying bloody homage to the classic slashers of the past, travels down several unique roads that inherently enhance the film's entertainment value and cult status. Again, all the macabre, loony enhancements aren't my cup of Kool-Aid, but it's obvious the cast and crew were having fun, and it shows via each frame.

The confrontation of good vs. evil drives the motor of each horror story, and that's what is lacking in HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES. Pure evil dominates, from start to finish, ultimately creating a sense of disinterest on the part of the viewer. Even Freddy Kruger would get kicked around every once in awhile, but not these ghouls. On the other hand, Karen Black can kick me all she wants to. Even though the years are adding up on old Karen, she still brings out the "zombie" in me. In fact, I'm feeling kind of petrified right now.

Summary: Just Plain Stupid
Review: I'm no heavy metal freak, but was interested in the film due to the publicity surrounding Rob Zombie's Big Debut as a director. I was rewarded by this nonsensical, meandering dreck, all pseudo-auteur visual layering and borrowed techniques, and precious little else. Leave all hope of a plot, ye who enter here.

I was struck right from the get-go by the relatively creative titles, and the multi-media film uses. The only problem is that innovative opening and closing titles have been around for years. Just look at the brilliant titling of "Spawn" for your inspiration, which it looks to me like Zombie did. And within two minutes it was plain to see that Zombie had watched Oliver Stone's brilliant, ground-breaking "Natural Born Killers" more than a few times, as just about every single one of his jump-cut, multi-media, layered visual effects were stolen directly from it.

The paper-thin plot and continuity flaws expanded and grew just as fast as the "horror" did. How could there be a rag-tag cemetery of the victims in an open field, and yet not be known to any of the locals? How can the psycho family do its rituals and burn corpses out in the field and not gain any attention? If all of the zombie-mutants live in the muck and filth in the well, how is it they never get out? If the mutant-zombies smash the coffins open every time to get at their victims like that, then who does that nice two-person coffin carpentry work for the psycho-gomers? Wouldn't the local coffin store be a bit suspicious of the volume business? What do the mutant-zombies do way down there in between feedings? Who are the apparently zoned-out human guys down in the tunnel who steal the bunny suits, and how come the mutant-zombies don't grab them too? What do these guys do with their bunny suit remnants, and why are they so important? Where does the electricity come from? Where does all of that light come from in the tunnels? If these psychotic gomers are so slapdash when it comes to disposing of bodies and their victims' cars, how is it they're still in business? Note that the last survivor climbs out of the underground chamber of horrors in what is clearly a dry creek bed--so, if the underground horror house is down there, wouldn't it flood every time rain turned the dry creek into a flowing one? How is it that all of the highway signs marking out US Route 50 are on a rural dirt road? What happened to the mandate and state and local oversight of the US Federal Highway Administration?

Karen Black is a great screamer-horror icon, looking puffy and increasingly scary as she gets older, with those too-close-together, beady eyes of hers (we were missing only a Zuni fetish doll to really complete the set). It was great to see her on the screen again. Now that was good casting. The rest of the cast, whoever the hell they were, were just thrown-together characters, obviously buddies of Zombie's who wanted to be in his film, whom he just diddn't have the courage to say no to.

In summation, this film has got just about everything, from the dark and stormy night, a twisted "Rocky Horror" take-off dinner and floor show, a nutso hunter-guy in a fur hat (a la "Deliverance" and/or "Southern Comfort"), the creepy house, clown makeup and outfits, pumpkin heads and scary masks and ruined and trashed-out dolls in all manner of grotesque poses, a leering and idiotically laughing family of psychotic rural inbreds, disgusting mutant family members, some very witty black humor, a dank dungeon-basement, laughing and leering psychos, mutant-zombies lurking in dark water, flesh-eaters, an ooze-spewing goggled gargantuan with an axe, coffins, graves, crosses, winches, and live medical experimentation in an underground charnel house populated by the dead, undead, and damaged.

But it ain't got no plot.
