Rating: Summary: One Of My Favourite Movies... Review: This movie was released on DVD in Australia in about late 1999 which is when I bought my copy of Christine on DVD. The Australian release of this DVD has very good picture ( Letter Box format only ) and sound quality, but doesn't have the full screen picture option like the US version will have. If you are a fan of this film then I recommend getting a copy on DVD. I personly loved this film and I think this film is one of those classic cult films that you should at least watch once. Some people are so Impressed by this film that they even go and buy a 1958 Plymouth and paint it red and white like Christine and cruise around playing 50's music ( Some Australians have actually done this after watching the movie! ) and on the other hand some people I know didn't enjoy this film at all. I read in some classic car magazine that they used something like 19 1958 Plymouth 2 door hard tops to make this film and that only 3 of those cars survived in running condition after the film was completed.
Rating: Summary: the worst movie adaptation I've seen..... Review: Well what can I say about Christine..... Well to put it bluntly: It stinks, but to be more fair. I'll tell you why. The movie does follow some progession in the story, but they switch the scenes around & take too many creative liberties in this movie: the have "The fight scene" as the first scene then they get the car, instead of a gas tanker they use a bulldozer(which would make more sense, a bulldozer has more manuverability). "STAND BY ME" keeps closer to the book("The Body" a novella in "Different Seasons") than Christine does. This movies just does not follow along the book in any way shape or form(except for some key scenes). In conclusion: Stay away from Christine(the movie), stick to the book.
Rating: Summary: Still Worth The 5 Stars. Review: I actually read the book first which made me expect more out of the movie, oh well. The movie, however, is still worth the 5 stars I've given it because John Carpenter directed the movie and it turned out excellent, the special effects are awesome, AND that the story itself is by Stephen King. Now anybody who has read the book knows what the movie is basically about, but for those who haven't ventured this way, let me elaborate. The key characters are Christine herself (keep in mind she's a car), Arnie Cunningham, who falls in love with Christine, and Dennis Guilder, who is a friend of Arnie but an enemy of Christine. Arnie falls in love with Christine and buys her from George LeBay (Roland LeBay in the book, George is the brother), who is an eccentric old man. Arnie fixes her up to almost brand new, but all the other characters (Dennis, Arnie's parents, Leah Cabot) have this disturbing sense that Christine is more than what she appears to be. Turns out they're right when Christine slowly changes Arnie's personality from nerd to suave psycho. There's more to tell, but I don't want to give the movie away! The special effects where Christine rebuilds herself after each bashing is astounding! I'm still trying to figure out HOW did they do that. After seeing this you might think about the car you have. There is a lot of explicit language so this wouldn't be for those who are under age. An excellent car movie, but don't read the book first!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST STEVEN KING BOOK ADAPTATION EVER Review: This is the BEST movie adaptation of any of Steven King's books. Not one part of this movie makes you think 'Man, this is boring'. I'm not kidding. From Arnie to Dennis, and even the old man who sells Arnie the car, the acting in this movie is incredible. The Plymoth itself is spooky, scary, and just your average jelous partner. This one is a great movie to have.
Rating: Summary: The baddest girl on 4 wheels Review: Don't cross this Fury, or it'll be the last thing you do. Good story (of course, it's King), and riveting drama.
Rating: Summary: Red versus Yellow Review: After Carrie, the story of a girl-teenager who discovers « love » with her first period, and then develops this love into a romantic liaison which turns sour because it is a trap, Christine is the story of a boy-teenager who discovers « love » with a car and develops it with a girl, Leigh, but the car gets in the way. The film is a very good adaptation where Carpenter introduces a simple color symbolism. Red versus yellow. Red is the color of Arnie, of Christine, of the school letter jackets, of Arnold's mother too. But yellow is the color of the other team that crushes Dennis into a hospital bed and yellow is the bulldozer that is going to crush the red car. Originally the « kaka sucker » is pink. Carpenter makes it yellow. The symbolism is simple : two basic colors. The red skins versus the yellow ribbon of the cavalry. A fundamental symbolism of American culture. Red is also often associated with either passionate love or with commercial love in American literature. In Color Purple for instance, purple is the color of the love between the two sisters, represented by the purple flowers they sing and play in, whereas red is the color of the singer with whom the husband is in love, the color of perversion and sin, as denounced by the preacher, the singer's own father. Here the story becomes very violent and very intriguing because Christine is haunted and is able to regenerate itself and to avenge all offenses against its master, its driver, Arnie. The film though cheats and makes Arnold die just before the car is crushed. In the book, Arnie is with his mother on the road coming back from a college they have just visited. The film is simpler and more logical, but the book is a lot more menacing and disquieting. I don't know which one I prefer : the clearly symbolical and visual film, or the very unsettling book. The result though is the same : teenage, adolescence is the period of life when love becomes a reality and it can be diverted onto a side-track and it can become the energy of the worst possible catastrophy, be the adolescent a girl of a boy, even if King identifies the crisis with a tampon for a girl and a car for a boy. No one can escape this adolescent crisis and the only way is to tame it not to oppose it. The mistake of Arnold's parents (especially his mother) was to oppose it. It led to a catastrophy, just the same way as the opposition of the mother against Carrie's adolescence and womanhood caused another catastrophy. But is there any other way ? Is there any epiphany in that age ? One can doubt it. Adolescence is the age of turmoil and catastrophies. And Dennis is not better who destroys Christine in order to steal Arnold's girlfriend. Rating: Summary: Another Great Movie that can be watched over and over again! Review: Christine is a movie that is worthy of being watched over and over again. With awesome special effects for its time and a great story line Christine will keep your attention from start to finish!!
Rating: Summary: Christine is a compressing movie! Review: She gets herself in to more tight spots. After each curshing experience Christine rebound with new enthusiasm (and a new paint job.) And talk about loyal to those who love her. Everyone knows that possession is nine points of the law; Christine had many points. This may have been the first car with an adjustable steering wheel. Talk about fatal attraction.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Movie Review: This Movie Was Great One of Carpenters Best I Enjoyed This Movie very Much and the car was cool GET IT!
