Summary: Ghostly BAD
Review: Where do I start for Ghost Ship? I guess that this movie should've remained just that..A Ghost.
The storyline is flat, the acting is mediocre, do not expect this movie to make you jump off your seat or make you scream. Like the japanese version of "The Ring" Ghost Ship mostly relies on the musical effects and like "Ringu" it fails to achieve the desired results. If you want a REALLY good thriller, try the american version of " The Ring" or even "What Lies Beneath" both great movies.
The only scary part about Ghost Ship...it's the price of the DVD!

Summary: Boring, predictable. Some good scenes, but the rest of it..
Review: SSSSSSSSUCKED! The first scenes were ok, and some of the hazards they met in the ship were cool, but I reeeally wish I had just gotten drunk and passed out in a park somewhere with my money instead...

Summary: Good visuals
Review: The story had the required couple of large plot holes (how come they can use 40 million on making a film, but not pay somebody to fix plot holes?), but the whole visual is quite amazing. You never really think about the fact that they could not possibly have filmed this on a real ship, so how did they do it? See the DVD extras for that answer.

The actor playing the ghost girl, Emily Browning, is very talented and very beautiful, I predict that we will see a lot of her in the future.

Summary: a non-scary, messy film
Review: ok, here it goes. You got the crew (Gabriel Bryne, Ron Eldard, Karl Urban, Isiah Washington and Juliana Marguiles), on a voyage to make money on a lost ship, found by (Desmond Harrington). They get in and something starts to happen. They see things, and hear things. Could the ship be alive!(I wonder, Hmmm). Then you get no scares whatsoever, just a really great death rate movie where people get cut in half by extention wires, and gunned down, hanged and stabbed threw the face with a hook. Then theres this big plot twist, The guy who found it and brought them to the ship(Harrington) is actually a ghost and hes harvesting bodys for the ship. Can anyone survive this ordeal, YES, Margulies does and she thinks its over but then, a end that was so gay, bringing Harrington back and him inhabiting another ship. What a waste of my time. Thank's Zack for letting me see this sappy horror movie.

Summary: Love the thrill
Review: I'm one of the biggest chickens out there, and therefore, I don't watch horror movies very often. However, stories about ships intrigues me (the mysterious ocean, perhaps?) so I bought this movie sight unseen.

I had such a good time being scared and grossed-out! I really don't understand the reviewers who call this movie "unoriginal." The gore sequences looked pretty good to me! But then I'm not a real horror movie affecionado, either.

I do wonder why none of the previous reviewers have discovered the plot. Most say the movie's pointless and doesn't make sense. Have they never heard of the Ferry Man myth? In this legend, the dead have to pay the ferry man to cross the river Styx (one of the rivers of Hell), but should only pay AFTER the crossing (or he'll swindle you and you'll never get out of Hell). This is the reason why, in old European tradition, coins are laid upon the eyes of the dead.

Get it? The guy who finds the ship and tells the salvagers about it is named Ferryman. Seems pretty obvious to me. I thought including that myth added a wonderful twist. There is also a song about the ferry man legend, "Don't pay the ferry man," by Chris de Burgh.

All in all, if you like scary, gory movies and don't care too much about acting but enjoy it when a movie delves into commonly known myths, then this movie is for you!

Summary: Flawed and predictable, yet I have to say I liked it
Review: A lot of horror fans don't think too highly of this film, but I quite enjoyed my time on the Ghost Ship. Maybe there's nothing too original or ground-breaking about the type of horror it has to offer, but that doesn't mean it's not effective and entertaining. Certainly, believability is a weakness in a few spots, and I'm still trying to figure out how a couple of "facts" could have been even remotely possible, but the film does create an eerie atmosphere and doesn't mind spilling a little blood in pursuit of its ends.

I think I can safely say that the opening scene of the movie is rather unforgettable, and I greatly admire the effect the moviemakers were going for here. Rarely does a movie purport to take out untold scores of people with one swift blow, and it is most unfortunate that a lack of commitment to this potentially extraordinary scene sets in motion the very doubts and misgivings some viewers have of the real meat of the story. The method of mass execution used in this first scene is pretty hard to accept scientifically, but the real problem comes in the form of some very obvious mannequins lying among the "dead." The filmmakers try to salvage the scene by having the victims take a few moments to figure out that they are quite dead, and that works for me; unfortunately, they take this too far and end up making what should be a glorious bloodbath look a little silly.

The real story here concerns the crew of a salvage boat hired to salvage a mysterious old ship that a pilot claims to have spotted in the Bering Sea. What they find is an Italian ocean liner missing for forty years, but the great riches they discover onboard lead not to the paradise on earth they fantasize about but rather its exact opposite. Trapped on board the dead vessel, each crew member must fight to stay alive and sane in an environment which quickly shows itself to be quite haunted indeed. The fates of a few are rather hokey and predictable, but the storyline around one little girl ghost saves the movie in my opinion. Only Maureen Epps (Julianna Margulies) can see little Katie (played quite effectively by Emily Browning), who eventually tells her the story of what happened forty years ago. This little girl, a pure-hearted ghost trapped on a ship full of malevolent spirits, certainly does her share to give the movie the creepy aura it needs. The major flashback we see through the eyes of Katie, though, is just plain weird. As we are transported back forty years in time, we are suddenly bombarded by some type of hard-driving, neo-tech electronic music that seems wholly out of place.

I'm not saying Ghost Ship does not have its faults and weaknesses, but in my opinion it made for an entertaining albeit rather predictable little horror movie. Some people seem to hate the ending, but I had no problem with it whatsoever; I think it worked quite well in the context of everything I had just seen. I would not call Ghost Ship a must-see horror film by any means, nor do I personally consider it all that gory, but I do think it has enough chills and thrills to satisfy or at least entertain many a horror fan out there.

Summary: its a time wasting film type....
Review: It takes time from you, but when you finish seeing it you decide that you never want to see it again; because the story is not original you've seen it in previous horror movies. Don't waste money in seeing this film just rent it cause you don't want to see it again...

Summary: GHOST SHIP SINKS
Review: Terrible horror movie that is more funny than scary. When a haunted ghost ship is left in the seas a crew of people arrive on the ship some die and don't.What a waste, though better than 1999's THE HAUNTING but not that better.

Summary: Much better on the new storyboard
Review: It seems a lot of people do not know that "Ghost Ship" is a remake. The remake added sense to the original (possibly done in the 70's, maybe early 80's) The original movie used the same eerie cover in less color. This remake gives more sense to the purpose of the ship. In the original, all you know is the ship runs on blood. That's it. No ghosts, no real story into the ship.... it just kills and runs on blood as fuel. Beck's remake gives us a better understanding behind the ship and what happened to her original crew as well as a better reason of the killing spree the ship is on. This was far better than the original.

Summary: I couldn't escape it ...
Review: This movie stayed in my thoughts for over 3 days. It was all I could talk about!

I have no idea why some rate this movie low ... as I think the plot was VERY original. The storyline was complete and full of depth. Ok... the actors may not have been awarded any Academy Awards, but very few scary movies are meant to be great acting acheivements. The build up to the "cliff hanger" kept me guessing all along ... "What the heck happened to these people & why???" ... and then when the viewers are shown a flashback that serves to explain the entire premise ~ I was blown away. I had no idea!

And the story was so "tight", that I kept going over the details in my head for the following 3 days ... wondering if there was any way I could have figured it out before I was given the answers.

This movie messes with your head ... and I like that. Reminded me of such movies as Silence of The Lambs, etc. Psychological thriller as well as scary movie. I truly think this movie deserves more credit than it has been given.
