Review: This movie does not suk! In fact, the title song "My Little Box" has many great catch phrases. I luv the lyrics. But I'm a horror fanatic anyway. BTW, does anyone know where I can find the purgatory pictures they used in the movie? I've been trying to find one for the longest time. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

Review: THIS MOVIE DOES NOT SUCK!!!! I find it quite enjoyable. It can be creepy at times. I'm the kind of guy that likes everything nobody else likes. Something constructive needs to be done. The ghosts are cool and the ship is designed as if it was haunted, so......what the freak gives?? I still don't know why this movie is treated so badly. It's kind of confusing, but, so what? This is a film that shall not disappoint for a horror fan. I also recommend this with "HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES". Please don't hate me for it, guys. I give you a lot of helpful reviews, so I would appreciate it if you would do the same for me.

Summary: Highly unoriginal
Review: This movie, while not "bad" is instantly forgetable. In fact, around the time it came to video stores, there were 2 or 3 independent films with similar names and similar covers, with- yes- similar stories put out at the same time. I guess something like that tells you that there's a market for it or at least was. I could see Ghost Rig" on the shelf and think it was that one that was a theatrical release instead of this one. Can you tell other shark movies apart from "Jaws"? Other killers from "Scream 1,2,3"? That's what I thought.

Summary: This movie is not scary....at all....
Review: To start off, the movie had a pretty good beginning. I must say that the beginning is one of the more unique set-up scenes I've seen. However, despite the good beginning, the movie did not generally go well. Before we go into that, though, let me tell you the premise of the movie. A ship that has disappeared for 40+ years finally re-emerged. A man found it and wishes to hire a crew to help him salvage it. After some negotiating, they finally set off to see the ship. They discover things they don't like. You know, like every horror movie.

Now, the reason why the movie did not go well is because it ruins any great twist right off. One of the first things you'll noticed in this movie is this little girl. Now when the ship was met with disaster, she was shown as the only one who wasn't affected, but soon afterwards, it showed that it didn't matter anyway. That little girl could have been used an excellent twist, but the director decided not to for some reason. Aside from that, the way they revealed this ruined the horror factor too.

Lets face it, like many people have said for centuries now, it is the darkness (or unknown, if you will) that scares us. If we are shown what we're facing, we will no longer be afraid. It is the fact that we have to guess when our minds run wild and we scare ourselves. This is why movies like House On Haunted Hill (remake) and many others like it are so scary. It keeps us guessing. To make it better, HOHH only tease us with disturbing images. When the first ghost appears in the movie (and it is quite early in the movie, I assure you), it doesn't even look like the dead. It looks like one of those corny kind of ghosts you would see in movies years ago. You all know what I'm talking about, it's nothing more than the actor with make-up to make the skin look paler.

It was so laughable that I scoff. You see, that will be a continuous problem throughout the movie. What it seriously lack is subtlety. It lacks a plot that makes us wonder. It also lacks scary things. The kind of ghosts you'll see all throughout this movie are just the regular actors, except with paler skin. What kind of BS is that? Tie this in with the fact that every creepy thing that happens is a direct action of ghosts makes the horror factor horribly low. In other horror movies, directors try to off-set this by making the door close coincidentally or through some other method. You know that there is a supernatural force behind it, but there is just enough to leave doubt in your head. This movie does not do that at all.

Another huge HUGE problem in this movie is the lack of connection you have with the characters, The closest thing you'll come to a come to a connection is with Jack, who clearly does not know anything about salvaging or being a sailor. He generally seems like a normal person, but he soon turns into the classical jerk bad guy we've all come to know. The problem is that he showed no indication of that kind of personality beforehand. Needless to say, his acting is not exactly top quality, but the script doesn't seem to be much better. Greer seems to show some kind of normal behavior, but the rest seems...how should I say this....stereotypical. Yes, that's the word, stereotypical.

One more massive problem is the plot holes. Now, almost every movie has plot holes, but how many has them glaring in your face? This movie certainly had a few. One of the biggest ones is when the crew start asking about research on the boat. Maybe I'm just ignorant, but how the hell do you find information about a boat that disappeared for decades? And no, I'm not thinking about basic information like passengers number, when it was created, or etc. I'm talking about details like possible leakages, how sturdy it is, and that kind of thing. How do you find information like that about a boat that has been missing for decades? Another plot hole is that Epps somehow seemed to have figure out one of the ghost's name without anyone telling her. Maybe I just missed it, but how did she do it?

And what's to top off all these problems? Some of the horror scenes actually made me laughed. I'm dead serious. During one of the scenes, I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. This movie is just SO horribly cliche. I'm telling you all, it's almost like a ghost movie you would see in the 1980's. I was more scared by The Ghost And Mr. Chicken than this movie!

However, I must admittedly say that the movie does get incredibly cool near the end, especially when everything is revealed. It returns to its rather strange uniqueness again and you get this awesome scene that plays out almost like a ultra fast pace gangster movie. It's strange, yet it's really cool. However, this really cool scene ends on a bad note. It ends on a bad note because it reveals a plot twist that I had expected all along. Maybe you guys would not guess it, but unfortunately, I did. I gotta say, though, this plot twist eventually turned into one of the corniest twist of any modern horror movie I've seen. Once again, it's like something from the 1980's. The ending is slightly cool, but nothing really truly special.

Could the director honestly have thought he was making a horror movie or was this what he attended? Surely it must not have been former considering he put in Mudvayne's "Not Falling" in. Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" is scary, Mudvayne's "Not Falling" is not. However, some of you may consider it scary since it was the track played when we were introduced to the end, which implied a possible sequel. Really, this movie seemed like it would have been a better action movie. If you're looking for a scare, just ignore this movie.

Summary: Another Star of "Must See TV" Strikes!!
Review: Outside of Courtney Cox and the "Scream" trilogy, is there as sure a sign of a bad film than one of NBC's Must See TV stars landing in a starring role? "Ghost Ship" falls prey to the Must-See-TV curse with starring roles by Ron Eldard and Julianne Margulies both of "ER" fame. The movie starts off strong, and there is a neat little mystery attached to the Ghost Ship in question, but the movie fails to rise above it's laughable dialog and acting. The rusted out hulk of the ship is a pretty cool setting for a horror movie, but the film makers don't seem to know how to use thier set to enhance the fright factor. The special effects, when used, are very gory and very effective, unfortunately we only see them at the very beginning and very end. It would also help, since the title is "Ghost Ship", if the film makers would have included a few ghosts along the way. Sure you get the little girl, and the singer ghost....but both appear in human form without so much as a hair out of place..why not throw in a couple nasty looking corpses to give us a jolt (I would have been happy to have the 12 ghosts from Steve Beck's "Thirteen Ghosts" make a cool little cameo??!). Instead we get everybody walking around looking mysterious for about an hour wondering what is going on. I liked the idea of this movie, and with a better script this could have been a really good, or creepy movie, as it is, "Ghost Ship" will be forgotten by viewers by the next day.

Summary: Not scary, in the least.
Review: After watching this movie I went to the documentary featurette and I was summarily dumbfounded to hear every cast member and producer, even the director, absolutely convinced that they were making a genuinely scary movie. Well, the information is in...this movie is not scary at all. The times when there is potential for a good fright the music swells prematurely or the camera movement changes slightly too soon warning the viewer that something is about to startle you. Therefore, the moments are not startling. The upsides to this film are that there are some decent visual effects and outstanding makeup effects that are effectively gory. Many people, and many of the characters, die in interesting ways. The gore factor in this film is top-notch! The cast is also surprisingly good given they have yet another ghost story to inhabit; but they all come across as human, not super-human; although there is a Ripley-type lead character that will surely survive. There is no telling which of the remaining characters will survive. This movie is simply okay, invoking frequent cringes at all the gore but never ever an instance where the viewer is clutching at somebody else for security, being frightened in any way. I recommend this film as a rental only, unless gory movies are your thing.
