Summary: Not what expected... but better than that!
Review: I looked at the cover and thought "Great, another low budget horror film. No doubt, this one will be cheesey." Fortunately, my thoughts were not matched by the film. For once, a horror movie got the better of me. "Dog Soldiers" is one of those British type films, you know with heavy accents and odd characters. It has some rather creepy elements early on in the film and who I percieved to be the lead character (it was tricky at times) was quite convincing and fun to watch. When the band of soldiers is picked off by the were-wolves, the fun begins. They meet up with a woman who manages to get them to safety. Of course, not everything is as it seems and some twisted mayhem follows. Suddenly, the woman and the handful of soldiers are thrust into a battle between beast and prey. There isn't too much gore, but alot of the after affects of the kill. There is a gory scene involving entrails (intestines) that really gave me the heebie-jeebies. I felt the mans pain with that one.
This was an inventive take on the were-wolf genre. It was effectively scary when it needed to be and subtle with suspense everywhere else. This is a deffinately several steps up from the dumb batch of horror films plaguing the "direct to video" curcuit.

Summary: This film could have really bin something..
Review: First off before I say anything els I must say I really enjoyed Dog Soldiers. I really did. But I of all people probably don't like the movie that much for the lamest reasons(and I hope I don't get negative response from someone the next time they review this film). Ok I happend to rent this film this weekend cause I read some of your reviews. I will say this...This film is better then the other crap(I.e American Werewolf in Londen ect...Yeah I didn't like that movie at all...pure crap)I've seen. I must say the plot was ok(though I wasn't expecting a brilliant plot of course). As most of you have said which are right, the dialoug is pretty damn good especially parts comming from the Main Character(He was the toughest of em' all). But like I said Overall I really enjoyed this film. Ok...Why did I give this 3 stars?... Well lets get to it.

1. The movie was a tad bit boring. It was for me. It really was but later it picks up the pace. But that's one of them..

2. OK OK OK..I'm sorry but I've read a few reviews saying "man this film is gory! Gooorrrry!" Are you kidding me? Seriously?... OK first off. Yes people who haven't seen it and plan on seeing it, yes This film has organs and this and that showing. But If you're expecting..SPOILERS AHEAD..

If you're expecting men getting attacked in pack and literaly seeing them get there stomach ripped open(Dawn of the Dead Style) and arms torn off while gutts and blood is splattering everywere...Look somewere els cause you won't be expecting that. But...

If you're expecting a man TO GET torn apart by a pack of were wolves and then have the camera change to another position AND YOU'RE NOT SEEING THE GUY get torn apart but 5 minutes later you see some body parts being eatin(though bareley shown) then yes you're good to go. For example near the very end of the film one of the soldiers is fighting a werewolf but eventually gets his butt handed to him and soon he is grabbed by the werewolf and another werewolf gains up on him with the other wolf guess what?....THE CAMERA CHANGES TO A little dogs position were you don't see the guy getting torn apart(though later in the film you see some blood and organs being eatin by the wolves) So no..There I said it..the film is violent but not really gory.

3.The film had a poor choice of an ending. It just...ends..I didn't like the ending at all.

But the rest..It's A-OK

And I must say this film has the best looking Werewolves...ever...Tall Semi realistic and nasty...Best looking werewolves ever..

The only problem I had was it got boring at one point and the film should have bin more violent and really gory and it should have had a better ending...

3.9 out 5 But still an enjoyable film..

Summary: A great Horror/Action Movie
Review: This movie is a little different. Different in the sense that it is a werewolf and military movie in one. The acting was very good. The action was great and so was the story. The only thing that lacked a little was the graphics. Don't get me wrong they were good, just not as good as you see in some movies. Over all the best werewolf movie out there.

Summary: predator meets platoon
Review: This movie is not your average horror movie or werewolf movie either, it is much much more.
1st of all its shot like a military movie starting off with war games being played by the brittish militay. but when are unit shows up to do battle with a elite group of brittish special opps we really get started.
we find a bunch of mutilated corpse's shreaded to pcs (note this is special opps) and now the action really starts. see there are werewolfs everywhere and now our unit is under attack. they manage to fend them off and get to a run down house in the woods to use as a base. during the escape the colonel has had his guts pulled out and now has to have them crazy glued back in.
at the shack there is tons of fighting relentless attacks from werewolfs and tons of blood and gore. the movie has a very intense feel to it throughout and the acting by the brittish soldiers was very realistic and comical with all the brittish slang and funny stories.
i highly recomend this film its fairly new (2002) and seems to have a decent budget as the effects seem really well done.
now onto the "DOGsoldiers" the wolfs are done great and the director does a great job of showing them through shadows , behind tree, moving very fast all well sort of camoflauged(my spelling notsogood) so you really dont see all of them tell there in the house and this works very well. you assume its cause they may look cheap but they actually look great(better than the howling by far) and they r f*cking huge like 7' tall and very well done.
in closing highly recomended a great watch, gorey and brilliantly done very bloody and a intense feel all through reminded me a little of predator (no arnold but some good laughs) and a little of platoon because of the great military feel to it.
if u want to watch something bloody gorey lots o guns and sweet looking were wolfs **this is the movie 4 u** rent this

Summary: Come and Have a Go if You Think You're Hard Enough
Review:
`You're behind me, aren't you.'

A young couple are camping wild in the Scottish Highlands when something scary and snarling breaks into their tent and eats them. Locally it's a bit of a mystery but HM Forces special weapons division (that's presumably approximately the same types who give Sigourney Weaver so much grief in the `Alien' films) have their sources. They know it's werewolves and they want one. SO they send in a special forces unit. They also send in a platoon of regular expendable low grade squaddies to act as bait, primed with the usual tosh about it all being an exercise. Needless to say its special forces who get eaten more or less straight away leaving us with a straight squaddies versus werewolves showdown. After a brilliant battlescene in the woods they are rescued by a woman in a landrover and taken off to the glen's only farmhouse. The nearest town, they are told, is Fort William which is four hours drive away. (Anal observation: as a look at a map of Scotland will confirm, this is geographically impossible and there is nowhere that matches that description unless you drive very slowly indeed. But never mind.) The farm's inhabitant's are unaccountably not at home, all except their nice doggie. The sergeant (Sean Pertwee who steals the movie) has had his insides ripped out by a werewolf but all is not lost as they have adequate supplies of whisky and superglue.

What follows is a classic siege movie directly in the tradition of `Rio Bravo', `Night of the Living Dead' and `Assault on Precinct 13'. And it's as good as any of these, an absolute triumph, the best British horror movie in ages and one of the very best werewolf movies there is. Indeed it's not just a great horror movie but a great action movie too. It was clearly made on a budget of almost nothing with no big name actors and shamelessly weak special effects. No cgi here, the werewolves are just guys dressed up in not very convincing wolf suits but the direction, acting and extremely witty writing are so good it doesn't matter in the least. The low budget indeed is turned to the film's advantage as it comes over feeling gritty and real, where thematically comparable Hollywood explosion fests seem, in comparison, smooth, soulless and anodyne (as indeed they typically are.)

`We are now up against live, hostile targets. So if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to tin the bitch.'

It's really altogether fantastic. See it.

Summary: All Bark, even more Bite---Howlingly Tasty!
Review: Recipe for Piping Hot Werewolf Tar-Tar:

1 Squad of Harried, Nervous British Army Regulars
1 Squad, Sadistic Special Forces Unit on secret mission
1 Sneering British villain (Liam Cunningham) with aristocratic purr
1 Dog-loving British soldier Cooper (Sean Pertwee)
1 lonely farmhouse in Scottish highlands
1 piping hot Scottish love interest with suspicious motives
Assortment of automatic weapons, grenades, RPGs, and various fully-loaded assault weapons

1 Bowl of hungry werewolves

Introduce British Army squad into woods in Scottish Highlands, let simmer. Dump bowl of hungry werewolves into Special Forces Squad, mix, chop carefully. Add stirringly beautiful cinematography to raw film stock; let sit.

Drop the now fully tenderized bits of Special Forces soldiers into pot, blend together with now terrified British regulars. Re-introduce Cooper to Captain Ryan (now fully tenderized by werewolves, see above for instructions), toss lonely Scottish farmhouse into pot. Season with tasty bits of "Evil Dead" and "Aliens". Leaven and lighten with lots of blood.

Mix, let simmer, then bring to full boil. Chop, slice, dice and puree British soldiers, draining regularly. Serve with side of raw long-haired Scottish cow. Feeds a family of werewolves for the entire winter.
