Summary: Thrilling! Darkly seductive!!
Review: It was absolutely increadible. The storyline was fantastic, it had intelegence, infact, brilliance, as well as that it was so fantastically fast paced. The makeup was so realistic, the backdrop, and environments were so real. The crime scenes were very believable, and, oh! the flaming wheelchair scene was increadible. It was stomache twisting and yet done in the best of taste. Anthony Hopkins does it again!! Edward Norton is brilliant!! Directed fantastically. The camera angles are just right, the script is to the point. Adreline surges as you whatch each scene unfold into the utmost darkly seductive plot. The end leaves a deep smile on your face. Increadible!!! Thrilling!!! and darkly seductive!!!

Review: Red Dragon is, quite simply, an incredible film. Brett Ratner's direction shines through beautifully in this masterpiece. The best of the 3, without a doubt. Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes demonstrate their great talent in a very powerful story. Don't turn this down. The portrayal of the story in this film is shocking. The twists and the way they bring out the twists is just truly worth buying it alone. The extra features are definitely worth the extra 5 bucks. My favorite movie- Seriously, folks. Bravo to the cast and crew... BRAVO!!!!

Summary: It won't disappoint you
Review: So you've been wondering if you should buy this movie? If you're not sure of how good this movie is, well let me tell you the truth: If you buy it, you wont be disappointed. Red Dragon is a very complex story, simplified in this movie. The film is basically pretty good because it is very well directed. You won't find scenes with the same old shots, where they close-up the actor's face to show how he/she just discovered something, so he has to make this stupid face that nobody does in real life, like dropping the jaw like 5 inches... The movie is full of quality material, and most importantly it is presented in a well paced rythm, without ommitting any important details. The acting is great, specially Mr. Norton. It seems like his romance with Salma Hayek has been a good change, because he's really something in the movie.
However, you have the final word. Just buy it and enjoy a very good movie.

Summary: At Least It Made the Filmmakers Some Money...
Review: Rent "Manhunter" instead. That film has more style and substance than "Red Dragon," not to mention much better performances. If you're like me, you'll rent this for curiosity's sake, but after viewing it, will realize that it was merely a vehicle for Anthony Hopkins to exploit his brilliant turn in "The Silence of the Lambs," much like he did in "Hannibal."

With the exception of Ralph Fiennes and Harvey Keitel, all of the performances are extremely lazy. Edward Norton, one of my favorite actors, disappoints when compared to William Peterson from the original film. Peterson showed depth and true pain and anguish as a character who has to think like the killer in order to catch him; Norton merely puts his hand on his forehead and raises his eyebrows, attempting to display said anguish. While Fiennes and Keitel are both very good, even they can't give this movie the energy it needs to surpass "Manhunter."

And there are those who might say, "Why does it have to be compared to 'Manhunter?" To that I can simply answer: if someone chooses to remake a movie, then, for all intents and purposes, they think they can make the film better than the original director. Brett Ratner vs. Michael Mann? Please.

Truth is, Ratner is to blame for all of the movie's faults. The lazy performances, the ridiculous twist ending (which is in the book, but is extremely predictable when transferring the story to film), the assanine explanation of why the Tooth Fairy turned out like he is...ugghh. Brett Ratner remaking a Michael Mann film is like Justin Timberlake covering a Led Zeppelin song -- just plain wrong.

I really wanted to like this movie, because the cast is phenomenal (but phenomenally wasted). I found myself looking for reasons to appreciate and cherish it...but all for naught. A bad movie is a bad movie, no matter what. But hey, it did great box office, right?

Summary: the best of the trilogy
Review: Anothny Hopkins reprises his Oscar winning role as the infamous Dr. hannibal Lecter in the thrilling prequel. This movie is awesome. The first time I saw it at the movies I loved it. I wanted to buy it on DVD on the day it came out. The plot is about FBI profiler Will Ghram who captures Dr. Lecter, and turns to him for help to capture a more deadlier serial killer called the Red Dragon. I thought this was a hell of a lot better than "The Silence Of The Lambs", and I think "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon" are a tie. This means, I like them both the same. I think this is the best one of the three. The suspense is excellent. If you're deciding which one to watch pick this one.

Summary: Manhunter.
Review: The HOPKINS/LECTOR shtick is getting old. Almost identical in content to 1986's MANHUNTER save the very beginning and Hollywood cookie cutter ending, RED DRAGON is merely there. Manhunter was the better film and BRIAN COX deserves more credit for basically inventing the LECTOR character for film by paving the way for HOPKINS tour de force in LAMBS. Although both performances excellent, it was nice to see two different takes on the same psycho. The canibal has now pretty much been turned into a mockery of himself and the 'franchise' needs to take the vacation DR. CHILTON did.

Summary: This Dragon has a lot of fire!
Review: I had relatively low expectations for the prequel to 1991's 'Silence Of The Lambs' but to my surprise, 'Red Dragon' surpassed my expectations and in my opinion, a somewhat underrated and underappreciated movie.

The movie begins in a dark and suspenseful arena where Agent William Graham encounters the extremely evil and psychopathic serial killer Doctor Hannibal Lector. However, after witnessing the extremely disturbing scenes of grisly murders that took place in someones house though creates enormous emotional trauma in Graham that causes him to retire from the FBI but three years later, two families are slaughtered on the full moons and Graham comes out of retirement and goes into a hunt to stop the next murder of another family when the next full moon occurs in three weeks. However, the next target of the mysterious Tooth Fairy Killer is Graham's own wife and son, and to the dismay of Graham, the only one who can be able to help him stop the horrific wrath Francis Dolarhyde aka Tooth Fairy Killer, is Dr Lector himself, the same man Graham stopped and put away years before. However, Dolarhyde is also being assisted by Dr. Lector in his murder spree and is the main villain known as the 'Red Dragon'. Dolarhyde though is approached by an innocent woman whose blind (loss of eyesight) and falls in love with him, or so it seems. The psychopathic tendencies of the 'Red Dragon' are driven by a painting that brings back memories of his childhood where he was horribly abused by his grandmother and the mental illnesses that resulted and he shows the remaining 'human' that still exists. Sometimes in a way, it's hard not to feel at least a bit sorry for him.

I have to say that this movie had a wonderful and incredible cast and couldn't have been much better. Ralph Fiennes absolutely brings out the evil and extremely disturbed inner being of 'The Red Dragon'. Anthony Hopkins wonderfully and cleverly portrays the disturbed mind of Dr. Hannibal Lector. Edward Norton was wonderful as William Graham. Quite frankly, this movie benefits from the excellent acting by all of the actors and actresses in the movie.

The movie has a ton of suspenseful and dramatic storylines and is a wonderful adaptation of the book and kind of replaces 'Manhunter' from many years earlier. 'Red Dragon' is just the forerunner to what was to come on 'Silence Of The Lambs'. The movie kind of drags on a bit during the first 45 minutes or so but then really takes off from there and becomes an intense thriller. A definitely classic this film is! Two thumbs up!

Summary: Not quite as good as "Silence," much better than "Hannibal"
Review: In a story set before the events of "Silence of the Lambs," FBI investigator Will Graham (Edward Norton) returns from an early retirement to hunt for a serial killer called the Tooth Fairy (Ralph Fiennes) with assistance from the imprisoned Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins, of course). I was leery about this one, especially because the director, Brett Ratner, has not done very much good work in the past. However, he really rose to the challenge here. He understands the Lecter character and has put together a very suspenseful, scary movie. The outstanding cast does a wonderful job. Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay for SOTL, also took on the writing chores here and acquitted himself well.

Summary: "Haven't you ever felt that sudden rush of PANIC"
Review: Instead of making another ridiculous self-parody
like "Hannibal", this film recreates the enviornment of fear, suspense, and intelligence present in "Silence of the Lambs". "Red Dragon" begins with a brilliantly twisted scene that shows us how Hannibal Lecter was caught and sent to a mental institution. This film probably does not have as much Hannibal as "Silence", but the scenes with Hannibal are eerie, entertaining, and a little bit humorous. Hopkins does it again with his flawless acting and the other actors are superb also. Ralph Fienees creates one of the most terrifying psychopaths of cinema, Franchis Dolarhyde, THE RED DRAGON. Years after Hannibal Lecter is locked away, Dolarhyde kills two innocent families and violats the mothers (they don't actually show him doing so on screen). Will Graham, the retired-detective who caught Hannibal, has a special gift for getting inside the mind of the serial killer; figuring out what makes the killer tick. So, in order to save innocent families from being murdered in the future, Will returns to his detective work for one last case. Despite Will's fear of the Hannibal Lecter, he visits the cannoblistic psychiatrist in the mental institution for some insight. Dolarhyde, with a giant tattoo on his back of a dragon, is horrifically insane, but he is not just a monster. He has some feelings, and he's probably one of the most sympathetic villains, despite his horrible actions. Francis Dolarhyde was made insane through years of mental abuse from his crazy grandmother (seems a little bit like homage to "Psycho"). When Dolarhyde meets a blind woman whom he has feelings for, it is hard not to give into his murderous insanity. That is a key element in the film; will Dolarhyde go over the edge by killing his love? How does the blind woman make him more sensitive and human? How will Hannibal have his vengeance on the man who locked him away? These are all interesting details in the film, and add to its appeal. So, in a nut shell, terrific acting, horrificly monsterous scenes, a wonderfully eerie score, and sad but interesting details about the mind of a madman, make this one of the best psychological thrillers I have seen! I recommend it to fans of "The Silence of the Lambs".

Summary: Finally, a movie that does the novel some justice!!!
Review: I've read RED DRAGON, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, AND HANNIBAL, and I must say I would rank this movie above Hannibal and right below The Silence of the lambs. It follows the book as does the previous movies, and thank heavens I now have a movie to replace the awful MANHUNTER--a movie that was made in the 80s, which is quite pathetic. Red Dragon is Hannibal's first appearence in the series, and in the book his part is very short; so, obviously to make the picture more appealing to a wider-variety of people, Hannibal had to encompass a larger part. The movie is watchable and very fluid, as in the plot hits on all cylinders. Anthony Hopkins is, as always, magnificent as Hannibal, and Edward Norton does a good job. This, although not the best movie in the series, is a very good movie that should be on everyone's list to buy. I would recommend watching the series in order--RED DRAGON, SILENCE, AND HANNIBAL, and I would also recommend buying all the books.
