Summary: creepy, effective
Review: This movie has some of the creepiest moments in movies ever. It shows the oriental perspective of ghosts, in the line of "the ring" and "the grudge" but, I would say that the fear you can perceive in this movie at certain points (I wish they were more, it has also its long in-betweens) touches every fiber of your spine to make you chill in horror. It's difficult to impress the actual observer, but It did.

Summary: More than meets the eye--but sometimes too much
Review: Mun, the beautiful heroine of this Asian ghost thriller (the gifted Angelica Lee) has been blind since the age of two, and receives a cornea transplant as an adult, after which she starts seeing people who aren't there. Realizing she's seeing the dead, Mun and her doctor become determined to help her find the donor of the corneas.The ideas behind this film are much better than the execution. The creators, the Pang brothers, have a tremendous visual sense so the screen compositions are often extraordinary. But oddly enough in a film where so much depends on seeing what the heroine sees, the film suffers from weak shot-to-shot continuity: often you're not quite sure what Mun sees as she sees it, which makes thematic sense given her own trouble believing and understanding her visions but that greatly interferes with the suspense. Only afterwards do you realize how frightening the sequence MIGHT have been had it only been edited slightly differently and with a different kind of kinetic rhythm: in the restaurant scene, in the elevator scene, and even in the crucial bedroom scene in Thailand near the end. Only the sequence in the hospital hallway near the beginning and the great scene in the calligraphy classroom seem to achieve the effects the filmmakers intended.

Review: The Pang Brothers' "The Eye" is way above the horror films(hollywood trash) we typically see & forget right as the credits role.
The film is great on all aspects screenplay, acting, cinematography, lighting & effects. There should be more films like this released in the US.
I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an excellent film overall not to mention the sheer visual terror.

Summary: Good, but not terribly scary.
Review: This was a pretty good film, but not nearly as scary as I had hoped. I've seen a lot of horror films, so I'm pretty critical when it comes to watching them. I found the American version of The Ring pretty creepy, but haven't seen the original, yet, to make the comparison. This film had some very scary and creepy scenes, but overall, the movie just wasn't that scary. More of a drama than a horror movie, really, much in the same way that The Sixth Sense was. It was entertaining and clever in many respects. I enjoyed it, but the movie didn't leave me with a spooked-out feeling like The Ring did. I didn't feel an overwhelming sense of impending doom, and the movie didn't end with any kind of a horrific twist to make leave the viewer devistated or to cause one to ponder what will happen beyond the ending of the movie. It was all tied up pretty neatly at the end. It really was a toss up for me to rate this film 3 or 4 stars, but I decided to be generous. Many of the scarier scenes were well done and effective. The acting was top notch and the dialogue was well done.

Summary: Something In THE EYE
Review: One great thrill -- but be warned this horse doesn't charge out of the gates -- from Pang Brothers starring Angelica Lee as Mun, a woman blind since age 2 who receives cornea transplants which suddenly turn her life upside down. Slowly, she begins experiencing strange visions of the dead or injured being escorted from our world by a "shadowy man." Evenly paced after a slow start, THE EYE offers great visuals and excellent character acting by all of the principles (namely Ms. Lee). A wallop of an ending that is slightly reminiscent of other thrillers in this same vein, THE EYE is still worth looking into.

Summary: Well Made but Very Familiar
Review: If you've never seen THE RING, RINGU (the original Japanese version of THE RING), and THE SIXTH SENSE, you'd probably think this was one of the greatest supernatural films ever made. But I've seen those other films. So, instead, I thought this was a competently-made thriller with a couple jolts and an interesting ending. Because of the other films, I really didn't find a lot of surprises here, only memories of the dread and revelations from before. I've heard that, like THE RING, there will be an American version of THE EYE, so I hope they keep in mind that most of us have seen a lot of this stuff before. Maybe expand on the "shadowy man" who comes for souls or something.

Summary: Heartstopper
Review: I was a little wary of buying a Chinese language DVD with English subtitles. But, in fact, that actually added to the character and was not a hinderance. The ending was a little lame almost added as an afterthought and broke the rhythm of the movie (hence 4 stars). However, it was so refreshing to see a good quality Asian produced movie, that on several occasions seriously scared the bloody pants off this avid veteran horror buff. You gotta see this before hollywood get's it's hands on it!

Summary: Poorly done retread
Review: Slow moving film about a blind woman who experiences the ability to see impending death when she gets corneal transplants. She decides to track down the donor's family, hoping to know why she sees these visions. Simply awful, poor dialogue, really no story at all. Shock effect of seeing "grim reapers" on their way to collect still living souls, is supposed to compensate for a lack of story. Been done a million times before, been done better at least one thousand times before!! Simply put, there is no point to this movie, and no point is attempted to be made. Avoid at all costs, unless you are studying Mandarin Chinese and need to practice it.

Summary: Beautifull Horror?
Review: Suprizeingly that title fits perfectly for "The Eye". The story moves a little slower then most,but the charaters are well writen and played, and the suspence builds well. There are a few very scary sights (of course) and excelent F/X but what I enjoyed most about The Eye was seeing the feelings of the cast and what they did and learned from the more harrowing moments. There is a good dose of drama but it balances out with the horror side beautufuly. I wouldnt recomend "The Eye" for pure scares or gore, but it is a great film I think both Horror fans and the more squeemish veiwer can enjoy.

Summary: Lame, very very lame
Review: I was hoping 'The Eye' was going to be fresh filmmaking and would bring something new to the overly cliche Horror/Mystery genre. This film has been recommended to me several times by others, and the reviews it's been getting by critics have been over the top. I was left unfulfilled and severely disappointed by the time the end credits rolled on screen. In fact, the film hardly leaves me any desire to see the newly rewritten Hollywood version next year. There are a lot of problems with 'The Eye'. The pacing seems oddly clunkish at times. I was hoping the story would take off within the first 30 minutes, but it never actually does. See, I'm not going to rag on the small problems, like having to believe that the main character can see AND hear dead people after her corneal transplant, because there is so much more. Few of the moments that are SUPPOSED to be scary are not because none of the moments prior to the scare get built up enough. Then the audience has to put up with a very sappy (romance?) between the main character and her doctor. Outside the hospital sequences, the script never really found anything interesting for the doctor to do. What I did like about 'The Eye' was the main character's connection with the corneal donor. That and the cinematography was decent. But besides all that, the editing was rather poor and the musical score wasn't really suited for a horror film. >> 2 stars. Like a dry cupcake, the movie just crumbles. -the enlightened one
