Summary: This Is Not Your Father's House on Haunted Hill
Review: The original House on Haunted Hill was a nice film with a couple shocks and a nice plot twist or two. The remake has many more shocks and scares, is much more gory (including several scenes of sadism/torture), and has several of the same plot twists, plus a few new ones. The movie is not for those who are faint of heart or stomach. Given the amount of swearing in the film, those interested in protecting their virgin ears should steer clear as well.Geoffrey Rush does a good job portraying the fiendish host whose party is overrun by actual fiends. Famke Janssen also performs well, although the source of her grievances is unclear, causing Rush to come across as a much more sympathetic character. Chris Kattan distances himself from his SNL personae while still managing to bring a few laughs to his character. The other actors do a good job bringing their characters to life, although Taye Diggs and Ali Larter don't do a whole lot with their backstories (he's an ex-baseball player, she's a movie assistant, but beyond a couple mentions of their backgrounds you wouldn't know it). We're told in the bonus material that a lot of thought, time and effort went into creating the house's Ultimate Evil, but the pay-off is relatively weak; the shuddering mental patients and herky-jerky Dr. Vanacutt are much more effective than the cloud monster (not that I'd want the cloud monster to drop by my house at 2am, mind you). Bonus materials are solid, and good effort went into making the DVD-ROM portions worthwhile (the mouse-tracking eyeballs in the original theatrical website are a very nice effect). The featurette focusing on the original movie and the remake spoils the end of the movie - the making-of segments do too - so be sure to watch the movie first. If you enjoy scary movies, and can stomach some brutal scenes (I had to put the popcorn down a couple times), The House on Haunted Hill should satisfy. If you're waiting for the next Care Bears movie to come out, why are you still reading this review? Horror fans only, check it out.

Review: Wow till this day when i watch House on Haunted Hill i get scared not to the point where i want to crap my pants.....but to the point where this film really does make you think....Chris Kattan proves himself to be a very likeable character in this movie and i think that it is comforting that he is kinda like a person who gives knowledge about the haunted house......anyways this is Scary,Trippy, and is full of Rage 4 Stars -Ben N.

Summary: A fun thrill ride of a movie.
Review: Amusement Park developer Steven Price throws a birthday bash for his venomous wife at the notorious House on Haunted Hill, a former lunatic asylum. Price has invited numerous greedy guests with the promise of a cool million for anyone that survives the night. Trouble is that the house's very real ghosts trash the party and begin offing the guests. When taken as a simple thrill ride House on Haunted Hill delivers some wonderfully creepy and disturbing moments, but the movie does suffer from fuzzy character development and plot holes big enough to fit the house itself. What it most resembles is a feature length episode of HBO's now defunct Tales From the Crypt, not surprising when you consider that the producers and director both worked on the show. Still it makes for a great Halloween party movie. Recommended.

Summary: poorly made
Review: this is a poorly made version of a classic. though the actors are well known they sure know how to pick movie parts. Famke Janssen(Deep Rising) is very bitchy in this one and when she got hers I was satisfyed. I liked the fact that Taye Diggs(New Best Friend) and Ali Larter(American Outlaws) survived because they were the best people in that movie. Chris Kattan(Corky Romano), Geoffrey Rush(MysteryMen), Bridgette Wilson(I Know What You Did Last Summer), Peter Gallagher(tv's The O.C.), Max Perlich(Drugstore Cowboy and tv's Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Lisa Loeb(the singer), Jeffrey Combs(Re-Animator 1,2&3) and James Marsters(Spike on Tv's Buffy The Vampire Slayer) also costar. the slayings are somewhat disgusting, the dialouge suck and some good actors are wasted playing dumb roles.

Review: I liked the original Vincent Price film of 1958. The remake I saw in the theater and I thought it was terrible. But it plays better on television. In this version the story is not enjoyable. Too harsh and sickening. The house (not the same house as 1958) is now a dungeon-like mental institution. Some subliminal effects. Could give you nightmares. Best performances by Chris Kattan (in a dramatic role here (!), but was doing comedy on NBC's Saturday Night Live) and Peter Gallagher. In Special Features is a featurette "Tale of Two Houses". This featurette will explain the gimmicks that William Castle would use for the films and the simularities of the 1958 film and the 1999 remake. Boo. It gives away the surprises and endings of both films. There are also four deleted scenes to click onto. There is a Behind The Scenes stuff and Audio Commentary by Wiliam Malone.

Review: I know I'm gonna bet beat up for saying that, but in my oppinion, this is better than the original. The original was more along the lines of a dark comedy. This one actually packs some scares. It's funnier than scary though. Watch it by yourself, with the lights off!

Review: I love this movie! I think it's one of the most frightening movies ever made and I consider myself an avid "scary movie" fan. The scene where the girl videos something in the basement but can't see it when she looks up is truly horrifying!

I loved Ali Larter's performance.The DVD was very good *****. Most people hated the ending. The real ending is after the credits Duhh. I also wish the painting that came alive and attacked Melissa in the trailer was in the movie. I saw the original before I saw this one and I must say I like this one better. Review: Come on people the plot was so lame and it was just like any other stupid movie where they get stuck in a house.But there in a crazy house.This did not scare me one bit.I thinks the best part was the very begging where the docters doing weird stuff I think thats the begging.The acting was good but nothing else.The special effects were bad with the ghost or whaterver it was.So my conclusion is don't see this movie!!!
