Rating: Summary: Got Issues? Review: I haven't even seen this movie. Should I? I'll do a Bill Clinton and get a poll reading fom my fellow Amazonians. Tell me if I should or not. The smart money so far says that I should. Based on what I've read from you all, this chick makes Dee Snider's Captain Howdy look like Dr. Phil...
Rating: Summary: Crazy May Review: Whoa! She's crazy! She seems all nice and normal but is really a psychotic killer! If you see her with a pair of scissors RUN! Lots of gore and violence. WARNING: Not your typical "Lifetime Network" female psycho thriller!
Rating: Summary: Don't Mess With May! Review: After being teased her whole life due to her mental slowness, etc. May not only gets a boyfriend, but gets back at those who have wronged her. It turns into a wicked, violent nightmare for the people who made her life miserable. May's shocking and bizarre ways of getting the ultimate revenge will have you on the edge of your seat! This movie is like a cross between "Carrie" and "Fatal Attraction" except she dosen't have telekinetic powers and dosen't boil rabbits! She displays the quiet, misfit, loner-type who is constantly teased side like in "Carrie" and an obsessive, violent, off-the-wall for her boyfriend side like in "Fatal Attraction". That's the best I can describe it.
Rating: Summary: I WARN YOU ABOUT THIS MOVIE(spoilers) Review: this movie at first made me very angry at the writers of this film because it hit home so badly. dont make light of May because there are true psychopaths out there that go crazy when you do them wrong---i used to be one of them.j luckily, before i killed anyone or myself, i was put in a mental hospital(3 times to be exact). i simply couldnt believe someone had the balls to make such a realistic movie. i fell in love with the character May the first 20 minutes of the film. after that, she reminded me about how i used to stalk a girl and fantasize about killing her and sh-t like that. by then, this movie brought back way too many memories. basically, the story line is that this girl, May, has grown up with a doll as her only friend. then, she meets the perfect guy and starts to "date" him. the only problem is, is that he doesnt know about it! so eventually he catches her and they really do date.he sees the weird, twisted, dark side of her and breaks up with her. it all goes down hill from there. theres also a lesbian that breaks her heart. her doll is broken so she decides to make a new doll friend...out of all the people who did her wrong. she kills several people for the body parts she likes about them and makes a life-size doll out of their parts. she realizes the doll cant see, so she gouges out her eye and puts it on it. she starts to cry and the life-sized doll strokes her face(becuase its hands are that of her ex boyfriend, which she loved his hands). the end. thats the basic plot, but im leaving out alot of different details about the movie. unless you have a weak, sadistic mind, rent this horribly perfect reflection of an insane young woman.
Rating: Summary: thumbs DOWN Review: It is terrible that this movie has a place on Blockbuster shelves, that it is sold at the price it is sold. I have to admit that visually it is done very well. However, i would recommend only to people with mental issues like the character in the movie to watch this. it is beyond disturbing (even though i happen to be a horror fan myself- this is a bad joke). little addition: even the director of the movie says on the dvd commentary, that "oh yeah, we wrote this dialogue 2 minutes before the shooting..haha.." or, yeah, this is my cousin in this role, this is my dad's girlfriends' dolls" etc. If you are not professional and create something just for money or to satisfy your mental illness, at least you should lie to the viewers that you tried to do something good. The actress's performance was exceptional though, so congratulations to her. thanks.
Rating: Summary: "So much beautiful parts, no beautiful wholes"... Review: Please, rent the movie before you buy it in DVD, I'd say this movie is a "one-time-worth-watching" movie for cinema fans or for those who really like blood... I'd say the movie in itself can't be classified as an horror movie, there's nothing really scary it's just disgusting and choking scenes... Besides the first half of the movie is mainly comedy, it's reassuring to see someone even worse than me in human relationships!!! Anyway, it doesn't worth buying the DVD... PS: excuse my english!
Rating: Summary: Not really a horror, but still a good movie Review: The title of my review really tells it all. I didn't really find it scary, but its hard to scare me. There isn't much in trying to figure out the end, its how the movie gets there. i would have liked a bit more about May's childhood, but what there is explains it well enough. Above all, a good movie that requires you to think, or see it from an artistict point of view.
Rating: Summary: Original...Lacks Something However... Review: This is a modern Frankenstein retelling of a girl named May who wants to build the perfect friend. She quickly realizes though that no one is perfect. This film lacks intensity and rolls slowly in parts. It's pretty entertaining though for the most part. I would rent before you buy however. This kind of film isn't for everyone's taste, though the "Jack And Jill" Aregento tribute in it is worth more than a look.
Rating: Summary: THIRTEEN meets SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Review: Roman Polanski made a movie in the 1960's called COMPULSION (I think that was the title). Starred an absolutely gorgeous Catherine Denevue as a housewife who disintegrates into madness, told completely from her point of view.I got the same feeling watching MAY but I thought maybe it would throw a curve at the end. It didn't. If you couldn't figure out what she was going to do and how this thing would end, you really should expose yourself to more older movies. I liked the cast and I stayed with them until the horror movie mechanics kicked in. Then it lost any special feel it had. That's probably why kids really liked it: it looks like fresh ground to them. But it's not. There is nothing new under the sun.
Rating: Summary: Come What MAY Review: Make what you will of this contemporary 'descent into madness' by the film's principle character of May (played with reserved conviction by Angela Bettis), but, once over, some of the movie's more gruesome moments will stay with you in memory for some time to come. May is a physical and psychological misfit. Born with a lazy eye and forced to wear an eye patch throughout her childhood, she was scorned by those around her. Her only childhood friend was a doll -- made by her mother -- but placed into a glass case -- never to be touched by human hands -- always staring hauntingly out with bright blue eyes eclipsing her pale, plastic face. As an adult, May finds work as a veterinary assistant, primarily serving as a surgical assist on animal operations. It is here that she develops a secret fascination with 'the parts' that make up the whole. Seeing organs and limbs and fur as items of beauty -- but never enjoying the completeness of the creature -- her view on life continues to become distorted, and, despite every noble attempt to make a human connection (dating a young man whose hands she finds fascinating, selflessly adopting a potentially homeless cat, exploring her sexuality in the form of lesbianism with a colleague at work, etc.), she fails miserably to achieve any lasting bond to any living thing. Her psychosis reaches its catalyst when her lifelong prized possession -- the hyponotic doll under glass -- is accidentally broken from its case ... leaving May with no other choice but to do as her mother did many years before: create her own companion ... but May's activities will take a far more gruesome turn. MAY is reminescent of the works of Cronenberg and early Wes Craven, but what draws its distinctiveness to the horror genre is the fact that the central character is embodied with a frail humanity: May could've been normal -- with a few eccentricities -- had her choices in life brought greater reward. At the core of any really entertaining monster movie is the human heart; May tries again and again and again to find hers, but it is almost as if life itself has chosen to conspire against her ... leaving her no choice but to succumb to the forces of darkness, forsaking any lasting attempt at discovering the person inside in favor of securing a connection -- any connection -- despite the consequences to others and, ultimately, herself. While much of the film is very palatable, MAY does offer some scenes of true gruesomeness. Once the character has made her choice -- allowing all the misguided evil to take its toll on her life's companions -- some truly horrific scenes are played out with stark simplicity. But -- like May's tragic psychosis -- the viewer is treated to visions of madness that will not soon be forgotten.
