Summary: Looking In the Mirror With A Hangover Is More Frightening!
Review: Whoever says this movie is one of the scariest ever must be afraid of just about anything. The only thing that would set you on edge is the anticipation something was about to happen, but of course, nothing ever did. Unfortuately, most of the time watching this movie is spent waiting for something to happen. It's apparent that what this movie achieved was how a good marketing ploy can turn a small investment into a huge gain. If I'm lucky, HBO will show The Exorcist and I can record it on my Blair Witch tape. Then and only then can these two movies be compared. It's too bad the ratings stop at one star.

Summary: Scared the bejeebies outta us!
Review: You definately have to watch the BWP with the understanding that it was filmed by young amatuer documentarians, otherwise it'll lose it's "bite". Once you look at it like an unedited "home movie", allow yourself to get sucked into it's premise it'll do it's job and scare the hell outta anyone who has been jolted by things that go bump in the night. It didn't NEED all the blood/gore/and Eddie Krueger's to get me to feel the creepy crawlies everytime I round the corner of some dark room, or hear those incideous noises out in the woods behind our house to feel the fear these three illicited on camera. Even if it wasn't "real". Very Hickockian I might add...in the same vein as Psycho. Better even then the Exorcist, which I saw at 14 and couldn't sleep with the lights off for months afterwards. I definately won't forget this film for a long time.

Summary: Scared the heck out of me!
Review: I didn't fall for the hype. I watched the movie, although I despised all of the marketing surrounding the film. I hoped to hate it, but with a bit of an open mind, I found myself absolutely loving the film. Finally, an anti-graphic film that relies on its STORY!

Summary: Let's calm down, people...
Review: I've been reading through these reviews (Amazon.com is my equivalent of channel surfing, so sue me...) and I was surprised to find out that I'm a brainless, unimaginative dolt for not absolutely LOVING "The Blair Witch Project". I like to think of myself as casual film buff who isn't adverse to swallowing a little hype now and then (I sat through "Phantom Menance", didn't I?). I love the idea of the-little-indie-film-that-came-out-of-nowhere and was also intrigued by the cinema-verite premise, so I plunked down my $3.50 (matinee show) and got my taste of Blairmania. My impression? Well, I appreciated the simple fact that the film was trying to do something different, but it just didn't come together for me; a valiant failure of sorts. Here's my three main gripes: 1. I'm sorry, but I've done enough hiking and camping in my life not to be scared by "being in the woods". I suppose the Blair Witch is terrifying to someone who considers Central Park to be deep wilderness, but some people need a little more than trees and isolation to feel creeped out... 2. I agree with the "what you can't see is scarier..." theory, but a film needs to convince you that *something* is off screen. Think of a film like "The Shining": I'm sure most people found the blank emptiness of the Overlook Hotel's hallways to be creepier than the "scary" scenes, and that's because that film's lighting, cinematography, and music blended together to create the sense of an onimous, unsettling, yet unseen presence. Your imagination was allowed to work, yet the filmmaking was crafted well enough to give you something to work *with* (Stanley Kubrick R.I.P.). What do we get in "The Blair Witch Project"? Some random shots of twigs and rocks and a few noises in the distance. I never felt these few odd little instances congealed into a tangible, deadly "witch" and, in a movie like this, that's big trouble. 3. Lack of interesting characters. When looking back over all the great horror films (heck, great films period), you'll find they all contain characters that, while not always sympathetic, the viewer can identify with or at least care about. Think of Jamie Lee Curtis' character from the first "Halloween" film, Norman Bates from "Psycho", or the Monster from "Frankenstein"; all of the scares and frights in the world are useless if they aren't involving someone we care about. I wasn't bothered by "The Blair Witch Project"'s use of "F---!" or its' camerawork, but I did find the three students whiny and irritating. When Josh (I think that's his name) is abducted by the witch, I didn't feel any sense of dread or foreboding because I simply didn't care about his character. While "The Blair Witch Project" isn't ANYWHERE near "as scary as 'The Exorcist'", it certainly isn't "the stupidest film ever". I liked seeing something during the wasteland of summer that tried to do something unique, but good intentions doesn't always make a good film.

Summary: Wonderful movie if.....
Review: you need a good nights rest. A friend and I watched it in the bedroom, in separate beds, in the dark. We kept waiting for the scary parts. Was it here? Now was it going to happen? Uh-oh, maybe we missed it! Rewind time......Nope, still not scary. Not knowing if it was real or not was the "scariest" part of the story. HAD those wandering souls been real people who disappeared many moons ago, THAT would have been scary. It amazes me that it made as much as it did. Maybe with the profits, the cameramen can go take a course in photography. The girl can go to etiquette class. The guys can get a real map. I've had a scarier experience in my bathroom. Did you know that you can predict your death by turning off the lights and placing a candle by your face. Now that, fellow video lovers, is scary.

Summary: Great Movie...Very Creepy
Review: Blair Witch is more than a movie about 3 people being chased by a witch. Its quite a psychological drama. Slowly, bit by bit you see the characters go more and more crazy. And in the end I was left to wonder if there really was a Blair Witch or if it was all in their heads as they became more lost and delerious. The dialogue was believable because it wasn't pre-reheresed, or even pre-written. The actors acted how they would have if this was really happening to them. Very good, & very creepy!

Summary: The Bad Sandwich Project.
Review: The other day for lunch, I bought myself a sandwich . Later, when I started to eat the sandwich, I discovered that there was no taste to it. Immediately, I returned the sandwich to the premises concerned and complained to the manager. However, the manager pointed out to me that the sandwich was not supposed to have a taste to it, it was all part of "the concept" and that I had to "imagine" for myself what it might taste like. This story might be a true account of what happened on that day. Or it could be utter fiction. You the reader must decide (but not until you've have sent me a cheque for £4.50..or $7.00 dollars if you are an American). PS. Watch out for a forthcoming website featuring previously unseen photos of the half-eaten sandwich. Plus, for the first time, an exclusive interview with the Trading Standards Officer who later investigated my complaint. PPS. the film was rubbish wasn't it

Summary: It really IS scary as Hell
Review: If you are the type of person who, say, has a favorite professional wrestler or NASCAR driver, stay away from this movie. The people who don't like it have no concept of subtlety. These people would probably prefer The Haunting which has no plot and lots of special effects.

Review: This movie is not even the least bit scary. I cannot imagine how anyone could have actually been sacred by it. For the most part, I was bored and agitated by it, and at other times, amused. Overall, this film is a waste if your time.
