Rating: Summary: Awesome horror movie! Review: POLTERGEIST is my favorite horror movie of all time. This movie is almost enough to actually cause me to believe in ghosts. The movie is very scary and suspenseful, and it manages to pull this off without any kind of graphic violence. The reason for this is because we come to care about the characters, and so when they are threatened, we are able to have compassion for them. Ultimately, this movie is about how love between family members can conquer over evil.
Rating: Summary: "They're heeeeere." "Who's here?" "The TV People." Review: "They're heeeeere" is a great quote for this movie by such a great actress, Heather O'Rourke. When she said that, any viewer who has seen this movie suddenly felt that "fear."After a hopeful beginning featuring a normal family in Speilberg's suburbia and the kids having a great time. But by the time Robbie was captured by the tree and Carol Anne was captured by the afterlife, you knew this would be a classic. The best part was the freaky clown. The end was good too, perfect for a sequel, (Poltergeist II, The Other Side, which was good too, except for the dreadful ending. I liked Poltergeist and is my favorite movie of all time.
Rating: Summary: ITS A CLASSIC Review: This movie has wonderful special effects, especially for 1982(except the tornado looked fake). Many of the scenes were edited to perfection, like the scene of carol anne getting sucked into the closet, which has about 50 shots in it(i wrote a school paper on this scene and got an A on it)The story and plot is very easy to follow, and is a fun movie. This movie contains no violence and is rated pg, which is a surprise, proving violence isnt needed for a good movie. The dvd may be lacking in special features, but the dolby digital track is an added bonus, and sounds great.
Rating: Summary: They're Here!!!!!! Review: I remember seeing this in the movie theater when it first came out. My friend saw it before me and told me that when you think it's over - It Isn't! I loved it then. When we first got cable a year later Poltergeist was on what seemed like 5 times a day - and I probably watched it 5 times a day! I don't really know how many times I watched this movie when it was on cable the first time around - but between this movie and playing football in High School - I don't think my homework ever got done. Just a damn good movie with atmosphere, cool special effects, and a darn good reason why if your television happens to be left on after the national anthem, and it suddenly turns to snow on the television set - ask your local realitor if your house was built above an old cemetary. If he says yes - RUN!
Rating: Summary: "Poltergeist" Kicks Serious *** Review: Folks, this is quite simply the greatest movie you will ever see. I could talk about this movie around the clock and still not give it enough credit. People who chose to ignore this film ought to be.....well, you get the idea. Only Heather O'Rourke could have played the main part so well. The scenery, script, actors, music, and *CAMERA ANGLES* are unforgetable, haunting you until the day you die. No matter how many times you watch this film, you will never tire of it. It is simply timeless and never loses it's scare factor. Let us "Poltergeist" fans unite and always remeber the best film of 1982 had nothing to do with an sawed-off alien at all! Let me leave with a quote about Heather: "There is no death. It is only a transition to another sphere of conciousness."
Rating: Summary: THIS MOVIE IE SO TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: When I saw this movie, I was suprised. No grisly murders or disgusting graphic gore! instead, there was a fun, genuinely scary movie with heart, too. this movie shows how strong the love of a family can be, and how, together, they can overcome anything. this is also a very spooky movie to, so don't worry, horror fanaticts; the climax is well worth watching the movie for!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The best of the best Review: I remember watching this movie on t.v. when I was a kid. Then I rented the video one day and there were parts they didn't put on t.v. The movie made alot more sence. The acting in this movie by the adults and the kids is amazing. I can watch this movie over and over again and never get sick of it. That is why I am buying the movie now. I hate all the commercials. The only part I thought was cheesy was, when the scientist is looking in the mirror after he throws up and starts to peel away at his face. But for the time it came out (1982) even that isn't so bad. Buy this today. You'll love it.
Rating: Summary: A HORROR CLASSIC--AND RIGHTFULLY SO Review: What sets Poltergeist apart from the usual banality of other horror films is quite simple: this one actually has a story. A story that is as touching and beautiful as it is bloodchilling. This movie actually grabs you by the heart and holds on tight until you reach the final credits. The plot centers on the suburban Freeling family and the supernatural havoc their home is wreaking on them all. There is no sex, no slashing, and minimal gore, and yet you are quite honestly frightened out of your wits. The special effects-- which include a spectral parade down the stairs of the Freelings' home and a massive, roaring skull forcing its way through a doorway--are spectacular, and the cast is genuinely talented. The way Diane Freeling (JoBeth Williams) caterwauls in despair when her daughter, Carol Anne (the late Heather O'Rourke) is abducted by the spirits is heartwrenchingly believable. In short, this is a true must-see. Other standouts: Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein), a determined clairvoyant; and Dr. Martha Lesh (Beatrice Straight), a hard-nosed but sensitive parapsychologist.
