Summary: Evil Dead II meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Review: Let's see. We have a somewhat stuckup medical student, some scantily clad chicks, a couple of loser guys. By chance they end up stranded on a dirt road in rural (and I mean RURAL) West Virginia. They are stalked, killed, and eventually eaten by creatures that are truly the mistakes and results of excessive imbreeding. This film could just as well have been called 'Hillbillies from Hell' or 'Backwoods Hacking Hicks'.

City slickers think they can out run and out maneuver the country dimwits in their own habitat. Of course they really don't win. Sure the doc and a chick escape, but they didn't win. The backwoods mongolids are still alive after being burned, beaten, and axed. It's a good little film to watch on the couch with your girl.

This flick did have an outstanding kill scene though. While being chased through the trees, an axe comes swinging as the girl is hiding against the trunk. It strikes right under her nose. Watch her body fall hundreds of feet to the ground as the top of her face sits up in the tree on the blade. Awesome!

Summary: If not for Dushku.....
Review: ...the film would lack any redemption. Implausible. unpredictable only in the sense that most people can't imagine anyone getting paid for scripting such stupidity. we naturally expect more. we're usually disappointed. 'Wrong turn' doesn't fail to disappoint or insult a post-95 IQ. Eliza looks great, but is the only, easily palatable aspect of the "film". Seriously... I can make garbage as easily as anyone else. I'll take the check. I might even try to craft a believable storyline out of the mix. Anyone?

Summary: good horror movie
Review: Everything is quite typical in this horror movie. The plot is extremely simple. The group of attractive young people got stuck in the woods and are trying to escape from monstrous mountain people that coming after them. Despite this lack of originality the movie is surprisingly watchable. The main ingridient of such kind of movie, suspense, is there. The acting is good enough not to pay much attention to it. In many ways it reminds me classic horror movies, just this one is more dynamic. Recommended to horror movies fans.

Summary: Take The Wrong Turn!!!
Review: Eliza Dushku( Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling) is starring in this sure to be occult classic movie. This is not your typical teen horror flick. There is some drug content, and some emplyed sexual tention, but nontheless, not your average movie. It starts off just like any other low-budget movie, but the outcome take you on a ride, screaming for more. Thus far, I have told you how this 'isn't your average movie' and is not. You may even know Eliza from "True Lies" with Californias govener. The whole time, you find your self wanting these two people to atleast kiss. But no don't know. Being a hororr movie and knowing the gist of the regualr scenes that follow being chased, and being voulnerable, you think you know that they are going to do, what it is that these characters usually do at this point in the game. That is whatmakes this movie so great, you think you know what is going to happen. There is that whole "Gottchya" thing going on. I even though that they were, go ahead and do their thing, then they'd die the end. Was I right? Watch and find out....

Summary: Reasonably well made old-style thriller
Review: No new ground is broken in this horror thriller, but the film is shot rather beautifully with Toronto and its surroundings doubling for West Virginia.

Eliza Dushku and some other impossibly good-looking cast members are stranded and then hunted down by a trio of inbred mountain men. Standard horror film format then ensues.

The film runs a little under 80 minutes (not including end credits) so it at least benefits from somewhat tight pacing.

Make-up whiz and creature creator Stan Winston is a producer on this film, and much of the Electronic Press Kit info (passed off on the DVD as "bonus featurettes") features Stan the Man fawning over his make-up designs for the hillbilly inbred mountain men. "I wanted them to look more like real people than horror creatures", he says. Sorry, Stan. You swung and missed on that one. They look a little TOO creature-y and not enough like real people. You took the facial and body disfigurations just a little too far. One of them just looks like an evil elf.

Ironically enough, not enough attention is paid to these murdering, cannibalistic mountain men. We get only a few teasing glimpses at what they do (or intend to do) with their victims. The film really only fun and creepy when we (and our hapless heroes) are getting a look at the mountain trio's handywork. Shades of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", 1974 version.

The director says in the lackluster commentary that he wanted this film to be like a cross between "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Deliverance". To some degree he succeeds, but everything that made the hillbilly rednecks in "Deliverance" so shiveringly believable, namely that they could pass for "ordinary" but were in fact brutal and scary, is covered up in "Wrong Turn" with so much make-up and prosthetics that the villains look too "Hollywood". The make-up draws too much attention to itself.

All that aside, the film is a decent rental though probably not one to purchase for the home library.

Summary: Surprisingly watchable
Review: Ok... initially I was sceptical about this movie. I thought it's going to be just another one of the standard hack & slash movies. The only reason I watched it was that a friend had purchased it & said it was well done.

So I thought why not give it a try. I have to admit, that it was reasonably enjoyable (albeit somewhat cliched at times).

The best way I can describe the movie is a cross between the movies "Deliverance" and "Texas chainsaw masacre."

Although there were moments of sheer frustration (from my perspective, in relation to the way the actors handled their encounters), I would suggest it's worth give it a viewing.

Summary: Good Cheap Thrills
Review: A bunch of young couples get stranded in the West Virginia backwoods and fall prey to a clan of cannibal mountain men. This movie is about as good as you would expect with plenty of cheap thrills as the kids try to avoid being chopped up, shot with arrows and of course eaten. Gore flows throughout and few survive to tell the tale. An enjoyable romp, but not to be taken too seriously. Perhaps if it had of been made 30 years earlier it may have been a cult classic?
