Summary: ******NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY*********
Review: I have a real problem with the spread of mis-information. TCM is NOT based on a true story- it is VERY loosely inspired by the RUMORS surrounding the supposed serial killer, Eddie Gein. He was convicted of only two murders, though there were 3 more that were suspected- his own brother being one of them. He did not do it with a chainsaw. HE DID NOT EAT HIS VICTIMS! He did however have a thing for grave robbing and wearing the skin of dead women and taking stolen bodies to somehow turn them into chairs and slipcovers for his couch. The studio's choice to claim this is inspired by a true story really should be considered false advertising- hence the one star from this review.

Summary: Texas Chainsaw Massacres a Song
Review: Per another poster's question about the song in the trailer:

The song in the trailer is "Song to the Siren" by Cocteau Twins and is on the This Mortal Coil: It'll End in Tears CD. Beautiful song. Not sure why it would be in the trailer for such a creepy movie.

Summary: As professional as I can make it
Review: First of all, I'd like to say that everybody hates an elitist. A movie is not guaranteed to be horrible just because it is a remake of a cult classic. Therefore, nobody wants to hear you say "it's bound to be bad because you just can't remake TCM and make it better." Get up and watch it first, THEN you can slam it as much as you like.
I saw TCM 2003 tonight as a sneak preview on campus. As an avid horror fan that is normally unaffected by the genre, I left feeling only one thing: disturbed. This in no way fits into the "slasher" genre because it is not a bloodbath. Rather than being grossed out by the enormous amounts of blood from a Jason-like decapitation, you are forced to imagine the severe pain and misery of experiencing a similar death yourself. Not to mention that the sheer isolation of the town adds to the horror. So take it from me, this movie was built to scare the hell out of you, so watch it and remember that it happened before and it can happen again.

Summary: A great remake of a great classic...
Review: I know that people may think "How many more times can Hollywood try their luck at a remake, and not make it too (fill in the blank).
For starters, you can't make a remake of a great movie that pretty much defined what horror films grew up to be. Don't get me wrong, some people mentioned "Scream" as being the rebirth of the "slasher" movie, but the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974) was the seed that started it all. How many movies do you watch in this day and age that make you turn on all the lights in the house, and pull the covers just a little but more around your head? To all the negative responses out here at Amazon, give the movie a chance and watch it before you make your decisions. I have to add that I also hope Hollywood doesn't go too far with the TCSM saga and stops with this remake. Alot of great horror films have been used and abused with ridiculous story lines and cliffhangers that the audience can't even relate to the original's story line. I give everyone involved with the remake a big thumbs up and hope that the movie does well.

Summary: TCM is NOT based on a real story
Review: The movie is like FARGO. They say it's true but in reality it is so loosely based that it is false but a good movie. TCM is based on a pyscho in Wisconsin name Ed Gein who killed 2 people macabre style. He did not have a chainsaw. Overall the movie is pretty good. I just wanted to clear that up.

Summary: Blah blah blah...
Review: I have also witnessed dozens of remakes that failed, but why claim to know what happens, like a dime store psychic? Blah, blah, blah, is right. You have a right to your opinion, and everyone else has a right to agree, or in my case disagree. I will judge it when I see it. For your inforamtion, I have read and listened to a dozen reviews from film critics that hate slasher/gore films, and went into this film with the same jaded outlook that some of you have shared. Well, they came out with totally different reviews of this movie, and said that it not only did the original proud, it may well have surpassed it. I read all of the pre-reviews that people have posted here and the nay sayers all repeat the same thing, "I won't spend my hard earned money to view this blasphemy of a film... blah blah blah." I say, "Great"... That means I won't have you sitting behind me while I am viewing it, blabbing your "expert" horror film making observations, or trying to predict the next scene. If you know how a "real" horror film should be made, go make it and put your name on it. Otherwise, save your "expert" horror film knowledge for every other self proclaimed "expert" in the horror film viewing audience. If this is a bust, and comes out being a total piece of (unlikable viewing), then I will be right with you in your slamming, and admit my mistake, because I am a huge original TCM fan, and nothing would irritate me more than to see another remake come up far short of the original. On the other hand, if this ends up being a good film, then I will expect to see some changes in reviews from the horror movie psychic crowd.

Summary: Attention all "Scream"babies...
Review: I'm only giving it 2 stars, for the fact that it might draw people to the original by Tobe Hooper. Yes, horror movies have had a huge comeback, thanks to "Scream" and the like. But we always come back to the classics, and there is a good reason for this. Remakes leave much undesired, and sequels that carry onto infinity are just as bad. Get the original, it's timeless, which is a big reason to not bother with a remake. Unfortunately, it has been a costly venture to obtain the original movie, until this "new" special edition release (what a coincidence that it comes out a week before the remake, whatever...). It's all about the green stuff, and not much about good old-fashioned movie making anymore. Lap it up screambabies, I'm sure it will be all you can talk about until "Jason Vs. Freddy Vs. Michael Vs. Casper the friendly ghost Part XXXVII" comes out, ridiculous.

Summary: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Review: I saw the sneak preview of the movie tonight. All I have to say is it was fantastic. I also rented the original TCM after i saw the sneak preview. I also enjoyed the original. Tobe Hooper made a terrifying horror film that turned into a cult classic and it doesn't even have that much gore. It's in the style of Halloween where you imagine what happens to the victims instead of seeing on screen. However, I think the title scares some people away... but I love the title. Marcus Nispel, the director of TCM 2003, is even more creative in that he brought out the things you didn't particularly want to see. Not in a bad way... he did it tastefully... like the shower scene in Psycho... you are watching her get stabbed but your not flinching. If you go to the movies official website: www.texaschainsawmovie.com you will find interviews and trailers. Marcus Nispel clearly states the plot was changed and twisted (still same general plot but twisted) so that you would be surprised. The ending, beginning, and murders are different. He also states that he did not make a slasher movie... his only intention was to scare the audience. John Carpenter also said that about Halloween 1... look how that turned out... GREAT! I also recommend that you do not watch the original TCM sequals because they trash the series. Good luck and go see this movie on October 17th when it is released... I know I will.

Summary: Stanley Runk Hits the Bullseye
Review: Funny, but I tried to post a review of this film on Amazon 2 months ago but it was never posted. I basically echoed all the sentiments of Mr. Runk and more. This is undoubtedly the biggest slap in the face to horror fans, it's like Homer using the Stonecutters sacred document as a bib. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre will never be matched in terms of authenticity and terror. What I'd really like to see is all the people involved in the making of this film spend a night at the hotel leatherface. These clowns won't get a cent of my money. Buy the original, watch it and worship it...the saw is family, hollywood stars are not.
