Rating: Summary: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Review: well, it didn't exactly feel 70s and the story might not be even close to what really happened, but this movie was alot of fun and its scary as hell...This movie doesn't scare you with suprise, but rather with nasty scenes of how leatherface treats his victims. Another plus to the films credit is great casting, acting and memorable one liners. This is the first movie I have gone to see twice at the theater. While its not as scary the second time around, its still enjoyable and fun to watch. acting=4.5 stars FX=NA ending=3.5 stars atmosphere=4.5 stars Directing and Editing=5 stars storyline=4 stars meaningfullness=NA replay value=3.5 stars OVERALL=4.2 stars One of the best films this year, unfortunatly snubbed by people with sticks up their bums!!
Rating: Summary: !!!TERRIFYING,TORTURE,SCREAMING,CRYING,BRILLIANT,CLASSIC!!! Review: This movie has all the elements to make a scream out loud horror film. It's begining is unique and creepy in it's own way and as you get more into ithe film, it's like nothing you have ever seen before!!! This film is different than the original. It focuses more on leatherface and that's a good thing ! There are a lot of scenes that are disturbing, terrifying, and there are at least 15 parts of this film that will make you jump and scream out loud at the same time! Overall this is one of the scariest films in years may be even decades, what's scary about this film is not knowing what will happen next. Like Erin's escape and the eerie ending!!!!!!! I know all of you who haven't seen it are wondering... Does Leatherface die? You will just have to dragg yourself in the movie theater and prepare to be scared out of your mind for 1 hour and 30 mins. Those of you who wants spoilers they are below. Rating: Summary: My favorite movie of all time! (no spoilers) Review: For all of you who are ignoring this excellent movie because you think it is a remake, and most remakes are horrible, don't ignore it. This is not at all a remake of the original. The plot is much like the original, but that does not mean this is a remake. The plot is simple: 5 teenagers are on their way to a Lynard Skynard concert, then they pick up a hitch-hiker and they are led to the terrifying home of Leatherface, and one by one they are killed by the maniac. I will not say any more.
This movie has a few scenes where Leatherface chases a girl I will not name through every setting of the movie with a chainsaw. Those are the best scenes I have ever seen in a movie. This is a gem for every suspense-horror movie lovers. MUST SEE!
Rating: Summary: Awesome movie!! But what "real events" took place in Texas? Review: TCM was an awesome movie! It was actually a scary movie that claimed to be scary. I sure heard plenty of screams throughout the theater, including screams from guys! Partners clentched together squeezing each other's arms only confirmed the intense fear and suspense that was felt by a viewer. My only question is...conducting my own research on the alleged true events I was unable to find any stories that occured in Texas. Did any events really take place in Texas?
Rating: Summary: It lives up to the original Review: I was extremly excited to see this movie, I'm a huge fan of the 1974 "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". I went to see the movie last night (oct. 17 opening night)with 3 of my friends and it was definantly worth the hassle of getting tickets. I loved the story line, it was alot different but soooooooooooooooooooooo good. There were only a few things I did not like(I wont give them away, go see the movie and you will figure them out)but there were so many things i loved about it that those 2 or 3 disapointments did not matter. I'm the kind of guy that loves to see gore, and this movie put a smile on my face from ear to ear (especially the " Hitchiker Scene"). It was full of great actors, great directing, and great scares. One of my favorite scenes is when Erin and Pepper get attacked in the van.(once again, go see the movie and you'll see why)It's a very good, fast paced, horror movie that drives you to the edge of your seat, then makes you jump back into it. If your a fan of the original, or just looking for a good scare go see "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" you won't be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: go watch it Review: this film is terrifying, sweaty, and suspenseful....VERY...the based on a true story is not entirely accurate..Gein did not chop up people with a chainsaw but he did eat the rotted bodies of dead women he pulled out of their graves along with the things a previous reviewer said..there are many scenes taken from the original given the update here but the premise is quite different..the family different...the best change here is getting rid of the hitchhiker and adding the Sheriff...Ermey is possibly the best performance in the film, and by far the best performance in the entire serious, including the original..he's worth the price of admission alone..and then theres Leatherface...bigger, faster, scarier, more malevolent...quelms with the film....a bit of a Hollywood ending though it holds its own... the little kid and the baby subplot are completely useless...a hoarde of cliches are put in place..but somehow are rendered effective through the excellent cinematography and direction...go watch it
Rating: Summary: Better than the first! Review: I had heard many times that the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" was a great movie. When I saw the preview for the remake, I decided that I wanted to see the original movie before going to view the remake. I went to see the 2003 version last night, and there is no comparison. It is FAR better than the original. The original movie might have been great for it's time, but it really pales in comparison to horror/slasher flicks of more recent years, including this current remake. The genre as a whole has really changed, and thus audience expectations have as well. What may have been scary, gory, and tense before is no longer the standard for more current films. One BIG difference that I found (and liked) between the two versions is the variance in plot. The new movie goes into much more detail, and explains things that I felt were left out in the original movie. There were gaps in the plot of the original movie which the new version tries to fill. Sure, they did have to change some plot elements completely, but not only did this keep you surprised (if you are familiar with the first film), it also helped the flow of the story tremendously. Another difference was the "scare factor." I was MUCH more scared watching this movie than I was viewing the original. I actually jumped in my seat at a few parts during this film. Nispel did a great job of keeping the tension maintained throughout the movie's entirety. There was also more gore as well. Another thing I enjoyed was the acting. I found the actors/actresses in this version to be much more likeable and believable than in the original film. As a side note, I like the fact that the film-makers tried to make the plot out to be a "true story." I was even handed a fake police report as I was walking into the theater. Though this movie is very loosely based on a true story (so loosely that it shouldn't even really be considered a "true story"), I thought the extra effort added to the scariness of the movie, and helped make the plot more cohesive. Overall, I really think this movie does a great job of updating a classic to be a more viewable movie for modern audiences. If you enjoy more recent horror movies, and like being scared, then go see this film! Be forewarned: it will make you not want to eat meat for a while!
Rating: Summary: Think of it more as a Sequel than a Remake Review: Just saw this movie last night and I was really impressed. This film is in some ways more disturbing than the original. I even noticed other people in the theater turning away or even leaving the theater during some of the most horrific scenes. The acting was much better than expected, especially the extremely hot Jessica Biel who really surprised me with her believable performance. The guy from Full Metal Jacket was also great and disgusting as the Local Sheriff. Best of all, Leatherface is once again scary and given ample screen time. Don't get me wrong now, I realize this film relies on a lot of gore, rather than the thought of what was happening that the original TCM did so well. It really doesn't follow the original version that close, but if you go see this film as a sequel rather than a remake, you will have a much more satisfied experience. I have seen the original over 10 times and I was expecting a big letdown, but I was wrong and so are the critics. Ignore the bad reviews, because this is a real horror movie, not a candy coated one like the Scream Franchise. Leatherface is back..the Saw Lives Again!
Rating: Summary: Texas Chainsaw MASSACRE is right Review: I was very excited about this movie, as I am a huge fan of the original, and an obsessive fan of horror in general. And wow, and that's all I have to say. Wow. The cinematography was wonderful, it had a nice overall "feel" (the settings, lighting and use of color were good) it would have made a good two hour music video. But never before have I felt such a complete and total lack of emotion during a movie, I got through the whole thing without batting an eye. I guess somebody forgot to tell the film makers that if you're going to be no talent hacks and just rely on that loud bang to make the audience jump, instead of crafting some real scares, that when inserting audio for the "surprising, startling moment" the sound effect should actually be loud. I guess it didn't help either, that were you to walk into the theater at any given time, and look at me, you would see me queuing the loud bangs within two seconds, because they were that obvious. I haven't been this angry at a movie in a long time. But here's the sad fact, if you've never heard of Leatherface, or seen the original and don't know anything at all about it and see the remake first, you're going to like it, and if you go back and see the original afterword, you'll hate it. But remakes are hard to fairly assess, and I know I might not really be being fair, but too bad, deal with it. It wasn't entirely without redeeming factors, most noticeably, there were many homages to the original, and I use homage in the sense of "being recycled directly from" while wanting to sound somewhat complimentary. Oh, and that brings me to another point, concerning this whole based on a true story crap, especially with that faux cop documentary at the beginning and end (because I know that won't help matters any), and believe me, over the past month I've gotten into this debate more times that I can comfortably recall without a migraine, but THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE DIDN'T REALLY HAPPEN! THE CHARACTER OF LEATHERFACE IS LOOSELY BASED ON ED GEIN! LOOK IT UP!
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!!! Review: This has to be one of the scariest movies I have ever seen! I mean, WOW! I was holding my breath!! The actors were really good, you could tell they were really scared. I saw on the making that they could actually feel something spooky about the location. Their trembling, it was real. And the last part, I mean, F**k!!! That's all I could get out when I jumped in my seat. They shouldn't have shown the footage of leatherman. It was just too disturbing. Watch this movie, if you want to get scared, not because you're curious. This is real, which makes it scarier. When I got out of the theater, everyone was talking about it. The scariest part is, the case is still open, he might still be out there...
