Summary: Destination into elite
Review: From the opening credits Final Destination sets the pace for what is an action packed bloodfest must see movie. The film is based around one particular character (Devon Sawa) who is amongst a group of american school kids who are about to fly to France on a field trip. Upon boarding the plane that is about to fly the kids to France, Devon falls asleep and has a premonition that the plane is going to crash. Once awakening Devon causes a fuss and is instantly removed from the plane with about six other members from the party. Once the plane eventually takes off it explodes leaving all the removed in shock. What followes on from this is quite a good story line about death trying to catch up the escapees. The people that were removed from the plane were the ones that were suppossed to of died so death has set up a new design for each of them. So when the surviors are being killed off one by one (in some of the best death scenes i have ever seen) they all group together to try and avoid being next on the grim reapers list.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: From Glen Morgan and James Wong, alumni of TV's "The X-Files" and "Space: Above And Beyond," we, the audience, get an entertaining flick that comes as close to a thrill ride as Hollywood can offer as of late.

Alex Browning, played by Devon Sawa who was in the 1999 teen flick "Idle Hands," foresees the tragic crash of the plane that he and his fellow classmates are on; he and six others make it off the plane before his premonition becomes reality. Now, having cheated death and that which was meant to happen, the seven survivors are left to be stalked by the menacing powers of fate. They only have so much time to figure out the pattern that death has set before them and how to prevent the powers that be from deciding their ultimate fate.

I enjoyed this movie. It wasn't anything too involved and nothing you really had to think too hard about, and that's exactly what I was looking for. It presented an interesting idea of escaping the path that is set before us and taking control of the things that are often beyond our grasp, if but for a mere instant.

The entire movie looked and felt like an episode of "The X-Files" and that probably added to some of my enjoyment. If that's your thing, I think you'll really like it. And if you're looking for something other than the cheesy horror flicks that Hollywood continues to vomit at us, then try "Final Destination" for a change.

Summary: clever but too much
Review: well i have the say i missed this on when it first came our but i saw FD2 and i liked it but seeing this one, it kinda turned me off from the start, why must u ask? because the fact that losing two family memebers in the WTC haunts me till and the graphic scenes here in the movie gave me a few nightmares to what it was like to see my relatives to blow up which is very disturbing. i know you may not agree on what i have to say but i think in some sense the filmmakers outta ease up on it but other than the 1st scenes it was alright specially when the one kid got smoked by a bus...seen better flicks

Summary: This filmed scared the Sh** out of me!
Review: This was a very greusome, but awesome teen movie. I think the premise in and of itself was stupid, but the death scences and the plane crash were brilliantly done. This movie scared me so much that I swore that I would never get on a plane.
After the 2nd death, it became a bit more....absurd as time went on. Come on, who really dies from pouring whiskey on a computer??? Who would be daft enough to do such a thing?? Or stand that close to a train??? But the gore and blood gave this movie a real edge. It scared me for three days!

Summary: A Sigh Relief, For and After the Movie.
Review: Death. It's a touchy subject for everyone. But director James Wong doesn't take it lightly in his hot horror-thriller, Final Destination. In Final Destination, Devon Sawa plays Alex Browning who -- after having a vision -- saves himself and 6 others from an exploding plane. Turns out, "Death" wasn't through with them. One by one, they begin to die gruesome deaths. It's up to Alex to figure out Death's plan, and save those who are barely hanging on.

Final Destination was a very big sigh of relief for the horror genre after the slur of masked maniacs that had recently hit the big screen. Jeffrey Riddick's (storywriter) interesting idea was turned into a very interesting and deep movie by screenplay writer Glen Morgan and director James Wong. A very good element in Final Destination is that its characters were well developed and you cared for them by time Death made his way into their path. And the actors and actresses that made these characters all did great jobs in making us believe them. Devon Sawa - one who I personally never liked -- perfects the scared and confused but brave Alex Browning. Ali Larter - who has always been a favorite -- plays the part of Chloe, and plays it well. The remaining cast - Kerr Smith, Sean William Scott, Kirsten Cloke, Chad Donella, and more -- all did well. There's also a worthy cameo from Tony Todd, the infamous CandyMan. Great casting for this movie!

The New Line Platinum Series DVD is something to be proud about. There are two commentaries: one from James Wong, and another from Glen Morgan and the cast. With the deleted scene and alternate ending, it shows a different way the story could have went, but glad they didn't. Even though it is very interesting. Two featurettes are also present. One that explains the process of the test screenings that Final Destination went through, and another about a woman who claims to have premonitions much like the ones Sawa's character experiences in the movie. Rounding out the extras are two entertaining games, the theatrical trailer, and bios.

Final Destination is one to keep at the top of your list, and so is the DVD release. Here's hoping that the already hyped sequel is just as good, if not better.

Summary: DEATH COMES CALLING
Review: FINAL DESTINATION is an imaginative, and thought-provoking film, a refreshing change of pace from the usual slasher films. The movie has an incredibly ominous feel throughout and sets a mood that is sustained throughout the film.

Although some of the elaborately staged deaths are a bit overblown, they nonetheless are frightening and disturbing. The scene in the beginning when the plane actually DOES blow up has an apocalyptic feel to it. We saw what happened in Alex's pre-flight premonition, so that when the only thing we see is the plane exploding, it packs a pretty big wallop.

Devon Sawa does a commendable job as the accursed Alex, and Ari Lester is appropriately heroic as soulmate Claire. It's one of the few teen movies where the actors actually looked and behaved like teens! One death in particular, involving blonde Terry, comes out of nowhere so fast, we actually gasped when it happened. It's been a long time since a horror movie has done that!

All in all, with its few flaws considered, it is a refreshing look at how death always wins.

Summary: A First For Everything....
Review: I have never walked out of a movie in my entire life. Even if a flick is bad, I feel that since I just dropped ten or more dollars, I might as well try to make it through. But this movie?!?!?! Final Destination is by far the worst movie I have ever seen, and actually walked out leaving this B.S. movie to the rest of my friends.

The plot line? Totally predictable...
The Acting? Worse than my little neice's grade school production...
The hour of my life watching this? Totlly Lost!!!

Ok, I know I sound like I am going overboard here, but I did give this movie one star because my airhead sorority friend actually loved it.... Go Figuere!

Anyone out there, tell me why this movie has 4 stars!

Summary: A fun flick with an outstanding DVD.
Review: This movie takes a revolutionary approach to the teen slasher flick - remove the slasher. Instead of a dude in a mask, our photogenic heroes are up against Death himself. Death doesn't need a butcher knife or a fisherman's hook to kill - the instruments of death are everywhere, from the slippery tiles in the bathroom to the can of turpentine in the garage.

The filmmakers make the most of style and atmospherics, loading the beginning of the film with almost subliminal foreshadowing, using subtle tricks of light, set, and sound design to enhance the feeling of foreboding. The result is a film with a unique, look and feel to it, not another run-of-the-mill horror flick.

There's also a welcome sense of morbid humor at work here. It's not precisely the satiric post-modernism of Scream. Rather, it's the blackest kind of comedy: we have to laugh at death, because we can't do anything about it.

I can't say I cared enough about the characters to have an emotional stake in what happened to them, which is the film's only flaw. Though they're more 3-dimensional than your typical cliched teens, they weren't real enough to elicit my sympathy.

Nevertheless, it's a finely crafted thriller, with genuinely disturbing scenes and grim humor amiably rubbing shoulders. Some said this makes an inconsistent tone, I disagree. Life itself is tragic one minute, comedic the next. You just have to roll with it. The comedic scenes don't diminish the horror, or vice versa.

The DVD is a five-star treatment, with several deleted scenes leading up to an alternate ending that fell victim to audience testing. It's a more philosophical ending, but almost ridiculous in its earnestness and not quite true to the spirit of the film; still, it's interesting to see. There are also two commentary tracks, one with the filmmakers and one with the actors. Add to that assorted documentaries and games, and you've got hours of fun.

Definitely a cut above your average teen-in-peril flick. If you're a horror fan, you'll enjoy this.

Summary: an unintentional comedy
Review: This movie is so awful that it's really great fun to watch. Within the first fifteen minutes it's possible to predict the basics of the plot and the order of all the deaths. For the duration of the film, all the music cues and ominous shots of wind stirring curtains, etc. are dead giveaways. You can actually follow the filmmaker's line of thought. The plot is trite and obvious, the "and then there were none" shtick gets boring fast, and the thrilling shocker of an ending is uninventive.

I rented this expecting a dumb teen flick, and it fulfilled my expectations and then some. The lighting, the foreshadowing, the characters, were so clumsily and obviously executed that, in its attempt to be a unique, intelligent slasher film, the whole thing was unintentionally very, very funny. It did have a bit of a sense of humor about itself, I suppose, with the amusing means of death, but it also appeared to think this was an unpredictable movie, and that the repetitive plot would hold any audience's interest for two hours. The laughable tension between Sawa and whatsisname the typical high school jerk, sans personality, also failed to interest. If you enjoy getting lots of good laughs at the filmmaker's expensive, or if you are actually at the mental level at which Hollywood seems to place teenagers, this movie is for you.

Summary: Final Destination
Review: The latest entry into what seems to be a continual procession of horror flicks in the last year is Final Destination. The plot revolves around a teen who sees a horrific vision of the plane he and his friends have just boarded, exploding in mid-air. He awakens in a cold sweat and panics when the events in his dream begin to unfold just as he'd seen them in the vision. It's an excellent and engaging start to a movie that unfortunately slowly deteriorates into what's more or less typical horror fare.

Final Destination is all about shock-value and on that note, the movie delivers. One particularly disturbing scene caught everyone so much by surprise that it caused numerous vocal reactions and left our audience of mostly teens and twenty-something's giddy for the next several minutes. This scene will, no doubt, be the subject of many high school lunchroom conversations for the next month or so. Similar incidents occur throughout keeping you enjoyably edgy and about as overly paranoid as our onscreen cast of characters. It must be noted that there are some hideous scenes of gore and death, but this movie is far less heavy-handed with them than other movies in the genre such as Scream 3.

Unfortunately, what starts off as a powerfully intense tale, gradually levels out into a movie full the usual irritants of idiotic behavior, gross inconsistencies, and silly plot lines so typical of horror. If I see another person risk life and limb to save the family dog, I'm going to gag. The movie goes from the seriousness of The Sixth Sense to the more or less tongue-in-cheek horror of I Know What You Did Last Summer, leaving me with mix emotions.

There can be little doubt, however, that Final Destination will make a lot of money and will be followed by numerous sequels in the coming years. It is obviously designed to appeal to the less discriminating Generation X crowd, who will likely hail it as one of the greatest movies ever. More mature moviegoers, however, may find that it's pretty much a finely tuned re-hash of what already been done. Nevertheless, if you want to see a movie for the sake of sheer shock value, I suggest you see this one. You won't be disappointed.
