Summary: Tom Savini is the Gershwin of gore!
Review: I'm sure I don't have the qualifications of some of the other reviewers here, but it's hard for me to imagine a more impressive gore-de-force than the climax of this film. If the Oscars had a lifetime achievement award for Make-Up, Savini would be a shoo-in for it.

The story isn't bad either, but let's be honest: there's really only one zombie film worth talking about and this ain't it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, IT ROCKS!!!!!!
Review: OK, first off, I'd like to applaud Romero, Savini, and the other people who worked on this film (especially the zombie actors) for producing what is in my opinion the icing on the cake of zombie flicks. I'm a big time zombie freak and I love almost all zombie movies. I think all three(dead) films are equally great, but this film in particular deserves more recognition. I am a morbid person by nature, so its not suprising that I would love this film so much. The special effects are amazing, I havnt seen much too compare it too. Being a zombie fan, the films of the 90's have been somwhat of a dissapointment. I guess there aren't enough of us ghouls out there to warrant a fourth film, sad as it may be. This is a horror film at its finest. I strongly recommend this film to fans of this genre. If you like zombies, you absolutly must see this film. Day of the Dead has a dark quality to it that is wonderfull. Even though this film was a cut down version from the origonal script, it still depicts the final days of (living) humans very well. The only thing that bothers me with the film is the sound quality, I dont know why but the soundtrack is quite poor. Other than that, this is a nearly perfect film. I hope to see more great ones like this in the future. IN THE IMMORTAL WORDS OF CAPTAIN RHODES, "CHOOOOKE OOON IIIIIT!!!!!"

Summary: Savini For President
Review: Usually dismissed as the worst entry in George Romero's "Living Dead" trilogy, this film is, thanks to the genius of Tom Savini, a special effects tour-de-force. The plot centers around a group of scientists and military personnel sequestered in an underground bunker conducting experiments on the zombies in an effort to find out what makes them tick and ultimately, domesticate them. Predictably, it all goes awry when our heroes learn the hard way that you can't teach an old dog new tricks and that's where the fun starts. Severed limbs and a visceral nightmare scene in which a man's guts ooze out of his stomach only add to the fun and (I'm not sure what this says about me) made me laugh out loud. It all comes to a head (no pun intended) when the zombies finally get inside the bunker and a group of them attack one of the military goons, tearing his head off while his horrified scream changes pitch as his vocal chords are severed. Underrated and a must see for fans of the genre.

Summary: We need more Zombie films made
Review: Tell me?

When was there last a real good Monster horror, "scare-the-living-crap-out-of-you" film made? Yeah, you right it was a long long time ago.

Gone are the days now of the films like 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Zombie Fleash eaters', 'Evil Dead' and even the black comedy ones such as 'Night of the living Dead'. Even this has a better genre than the modern attempts at horror.

If these sort of Films are up your street then you should also try out 'Braindead', 'The Fog' and 'Re-amimator'.

'Day of the Dead' though is one of my all time greats. Up there with 'Assult on precint 13', and 'The Thing' for that "chill-factor"! What I like most about it is the classic way you get into the film and live it, that's when you get realy scared, that's what makes a good film and this is one of the best!

Summary: GREAT HORROR MOVIE!
Review: I've rented it last week cause i am a fan of George Romero and i loved it. This is the final of the Living Dead trilogy, it deals with the world now being devoured by the Ghouls and the last living Human Beings hide themselves in a underground world that they created and have a plan to survive, while one of them is a Scientist who is trying to domesticate them.

This movie is soooo underrated, but forget the critics, you fans of Dawn of the Dead should enjoy this 80's Gore masterpiece but be warned! unlike Dawn, this one is Grisly to the max and should have been rated NC-17.

Recommendations: Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, The Toxic Avenger, The Stuff, Return of the Living Dead, Dead Alive, Scanners, Commando, Total Recall, and Zombie.

Summary: One of Romero's best!
Review: This is definitely one of Romero's best movies. I would rank this slightly below both "Dawn" and "Night". I think this movie is getting unfairly panned. Someone said its depressing but its supposed to be. How would you feel if you were outnumbered by the enemy 400,000 to 1? I also love the in-fighting between the scientists and the military, it adds another problem into an already horrible situation. I have heard of Romero's original script for this movie but have not read it, so I can only imagine what could have been....This movie is one of the best horror movies ever and tops in the zombie genre.

Special mention goes out to Captin Rhodes played by Joe Pilato. He is one of the most evil, despicable, funny, loveable villians ever to grace the silver screen. I rank him only behind Darth Vader on my all time villians list.

Summary: Good, but not great....
Review: It is 'Dawn of the Dead' which many fans consider the best of the trilogy(I'm one of them) and this one "Day of the Dead" could have been much better than it was.

All fans of this movie recognize that this installment is much darker and even more mature than 'Dawn'. But that doesn't necessarily make it a *better* film.

When Romero wrote the original script for 'Day', it was drastically different. It was much more epic, and would have rivaled 'Dawn' for best of the lot. However, because he felt Gore was more important that story (Yeah, real Good one, George!...)He refused to cut the gore out of the script. Hence, the film studio only gave him have the money they would have. So Romero now had to re-write the script...all just so he can keep the gore...please someone explain it to me, I don't get it, really I dont...Gore is just window dressing...Story is what is important! Well, anyway, the script was re-written and only a couple small elements of the original script survived. So what we see when we watch this movie, really is a bastardized version of a MUCH better and more epic script. This one *could* have been the best...but hey, coulda, woulda, shoulda...It makes no difference now.

And the original 'Day of the Dead' Screenplay is avaliable on the net for download...it's easy to find. Just incase your interested. And if you are a 'Dead' fan, than you will be....Trust me, it's much better.

Summary: Missing: All internal organs and lower jaw... REWARD!
Review: "Day of the Dead" is recognized as the lesser of the "Living Dead" trilogy, brought to us by the legendary George A. Romero, whose knack for social satire and plodding zombies made one of the most effective shockers of all time, "Night of the Living Dead." It was apparent to all critics and audiences back in 1968 that Romero was much farther ahead of his time in terms of gore, violence, and societal significance. To this very day, "Night" remains a favorite on the list of every horror film buff. Now, my question is: What was so wrong with "Day"? Personally, I find "Day of the Dead" to be extraordinarily effective zombie thriller with more than its fair share of shocks and gore, and my hat is off to George Romero for his great script (although I would've loved to see exactly where he originally wanted to take this movie) and to Tom Savini for his astonishing make-up work. This is his self-proclaimed masterpiece, and rightfully so. The special make-up effects in this film are so undeniably realistic and gross that I was actually applauding before the film was over, especially during the movie's outstanding finale - one of the best in horror cinema history.

The plot of "Day" is rather simple, but it works well on all of its collective levels. A team of scientists and military personnel are seeking shelter from the zombie hordes that roam the earth in an underground bunker that seems to stretch on for miles, and has its very own special wall that they use to trap zombies for scientific examination and autospy. The theory of one of the scientists (a kind of Christopher Lloyd in "Back to the Future" clone, but, you know, fatter) is that zombies' brains still function enough for normal humans to not only understand, but control their behavior. His ideas aren't looked upon with too much seriousness, but they do prove to be effective. The other scientists tend to believe that they can use the zombies to create a biological weapon they could lay waste to the lot of them so living human beings can take back the earth. Meanwhile, there is a power struggle between the scientists and the military, and a kind of half-love story between one scientist and one military man. Yet, through it all, the film is photographed in an attempt to recapture the grainy feel of the original "Night of the Living Dead." It works wonders with how the film feels. The script has a sort of "Shawshank Redemption" pace that makes the characters interesting to listen to and get to know. And when that trained zombie gives that salute, part of me cheered. This film has a spirit and a lifeforce behind it that "Dawn" just didn't have, and it still makes us think: Are they the enemy, or are we the enemy? I say "we" because as we watch the events transpire on the screen, we realize that we not only know people like this, but we can identify with one or the other. We come to realize that they aren't so much unlike ourselves. Kinda creepy...

Summary: You Almost Killed Rickles...
Review: This is the funniest horror movie ever. I loved the interaction between the characters, especially when Rhodes or Steel were involved. I believe that there could have been more killing but the comedy made up for that. As far as I'm concerned, it is the best in the "dead" series.

Summary: Worst of the three
Review: I'm not exactly someone who loves blood and guts, but my friend a few years ago told me about this movie and I finally got around to seeing all three. This movie is good, but not great. This movie was basically to show human emotions under these kind of circumstances, since the first movies were basically setting up the plot. The zombies are particullary disgusting in this movie, like when the zombie is being dissected and he suddenly turns over andhis insides fall out. Most of the movie is talk about the situation, and then the army guys going nuts on the scientists, and an army guy gets "revenge' on his army buddies with a pretty cool twist. The zombie that was "domesticated", Bob,was a cool idea, and him using a gun was pretty comical as he staggered after the army guy, but I felt sorry for bob, as he seemed to get some of his humanity back, but then losing the people that were helping him. All in all, I would say rent it first. I was going to buy it, but the deaths the soldiers went through weren't exactly appealing. If your going to see one out of the series, watch Dawn of the Dead, or watch the "spoofs" like "Return of the Living Dead" series, or at least the first two. It's pretty funny watching the characters talk about killing the zombies like they did in night of the living deadd, but then finding out it doesn't work, and the zombies "ordering" food.
