Summary: Phantasm: Great Film, Features, and Digital Sound
Review: Phantasm was a great film in VHS. It is even better in the DVD format. This is perhaps one of the greatest surprises of the year in DVD. Not only is the film great, but also the commentary and the behind the scenes footage add so much to the entire package! I especially appreciate the digital re-master of the original! The 5.1 Dolby Surround is incredible, especially with the benefit of a good subwoofer! The purists can even listen to the fantastic original score. This film is testimony that a person with vision and imagination, in this case Don Coscarelli and crew, can accomplish a great deal on a small budget. I have seen all the Phantasm installments and believe this one belongs in every fans video library. For the real fan of Phantasm it should be noted that one of the deleted scenes of the Tall Man's, Angus Scrimm's, dialogue was included in the fantastic sequel Phantasm II. He says in the latter case to the Priest "You think when you die you go to heaven, you come to us!" This film is a study in surrealism. There are a few elements of very dark humor. The sequels are technically superior, but on a budget of approximately $300,000 they accomplished wonders. They all worked as a team and a very unique film was born. I suppose the Tall Man represents on one level a person's fear of death, but as can be seen in Phantasm IV: Oblivion there is a lot that is still unanswered in this saga. Angus Scrimm's character of the Tall Man is possibly one of horror film's most sinister if not the most intriguing concepts to date. If you haven't viewed any Phantasm film, this one is worth the price! As the old TV ad goes "if this one doesn't scare you your're probably dead." This is one sci-fi/horror classic, I don't that will leave an impression on you as it has me since seeing it in 1979. The girl in purple is waiting, as is the Tall Man. If you are a fan visit the official Phantasm website at for all the latest.

Summary: One of the finest movies and DVD's I've ever seen!!!
Review: This is without a doubt the finest dvd I own. I never write reviews for anything, except for a movie at the bboards that I go to. But when I got this dvd earlier this week, just reading the info of what's on the disc made me think, it was worth the money. Now I don't have nor have I ever had a laser disc. But this disc is loaded with extras, you can customize the music on the main menu but it's a hidden feature. There are a couple hidden features, and the extras are just outstanding. The film itself, is a spectacular transfer, in both video and audio. It makes my vhs tape of Phantasm look like your watching without glasses on. Overall, this is a beautiful disc, with extras that will make you drool. True Phans, this is the disc you should get now. Or if you like horror, this is another fine disc to add to your collection.

Summary: PHANTASMIC! (Fantastic!)
Review: PHANTASM is nothing less than stupendous! It frightened me as a kid and still gives me genuine chills as an adult. The Tall Man is one of the scariest monsters I have ever seen, probably because he is Death incarnate. (And what mortal doesn't fear the probability of his own death?) The film has some of the most memorable and nightmarish moments I have ever viewed, including a scene on a small town street with the creepy undertaker walking slo-mo towards the ice cream truck! It also has some truly inspired and creative images, including that spacegate and alien world. Anyone who cans this movie is a fool. Yes, of course there are comic and, at times, silly moments in the film. But these only serve to heighten the sheer eeriness of its compelling and pervasive atmosphere. This film will scare you on a deeply subliminal level for years--perhaps even a lifetime. Rent it! And... pleasant nightmares!

Summary: Phantasm is one of the better movies series that's ever been
Review: There are alot of movies that try to get to the level that phantasm has achieved. I have seen this movie several times but first probably when I was about 6 or so watching late night fright shows with my father. The killing spheres seemed neat and interesting, but what was really interesting was the tall man. Trying to figure out where he comes from and what he is kinds of holds you, not in suspense necessarily, but in morbid curiousity. Over time I followed the series as a dedicated "Phan" of the series, and always rented or purchased the movies when they became available. Part one and four are the better of the series. Two was ok, but used a different actor for mike. That's another thing about the movie. It uses the same actors, except for mike in part two for all the movies, and the timespan is 20 years. That is amazing to me. Anyway, I must go now. Check out the movie, and give it a chance. I am happy this edition comes with these extras.

Summary: This film is a long way from being the best horror film ever
Review: I have read alot of rave reviews about this one but I just watched it and I kind of felt like I just wasted $3. The film was'nt too bad until half way through we are shown a truly ridiculous buzzing fly kind of creature with glowing pink eyes and I just gave up on it from there. I have to say that it was NOT scary or gory and I have seen alot better low budget horror movies.

Summary: This DVD is awesome and will scare the hell out of you!
Review: I received an advance copy of the new Phantasm DVD from a friend who works in "the trade" and it blew me away. From the opening menu, where the evil Tall Man's hand appears out of the mist holding the deadly sphere, it rocks. The photo montage they have put together to the eerie theme music is very compelling. This disc is loaded with extras. The ones I liked best were the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, the funny bits with Angus Scrimm at the horror convention and in Australia promoting the film, and the behind the scenes home movies from the making of the film. Of course, the film, in widescreen version, looks great and in my humble opinion, still stands as one of the great sci-fi / horror films.

Summary: Good Midnight horror movie.
Review: This movie has been considered trash by some, and the best horror movie ever made by some. To me it is neither. It is not gutter trash but yet is not the greatest flick I've ever seen. This film is at its greatest advantage when it's dark, all the lights are turned off (as well as your brain) and you're in the mood for a scare. Note: Whoever it was that compared this to Lynch's "Eraserhead" is a Complete fool! This is nothing like it!

Summary: HELLO BOOOOOOOOOYYYYYY!
Review: If you're into the stereotypical trash-come-horror film then you'll love this. It's astounding ability to invoke uncontrollable laughter in the viewers is incredible...not a film to be viewed with the intentions of being frightened to death, however it is ideal for those of you who are interested in brain surgery. WATCH OUT - THE BRAINDRILLS ARE NIGH!!!
