Summary: Stupid, but its the good kind of stupid...
Review: Army of Darkness is a B-movie done with such style, humor and finess that it has attained cult classic status. The acting is goofy, the special effects are "Clash of the Titans"-esque, and Ash seems to get his shotgun out of nowhere after coming out of the pit; but, you love it anyway cause its funny and good for a viewing at anytime of the day or night.

This edition of Army of Darkness is particularly special because you get the full-length theatrical release of Army of Darkness and the full-length director's cut (and not just the ending to the director's cut) in addition to a gaggle of interesting extras.

In my opinion, I'm glad that the studio made the director go back and recut the movie. The theatrical ending is a lot funnier and more in line with the over-the-top tone of the movie. Moreover, forgoing the other footage from the director's cut helps the pacing of the film enormously... but that's just my opinion.

If you are a fan of silly, over-the-top comedy with a satirical bent, Army of Darkness is definitely for you!

Summary: Frickin' awesome
Review: Yes my name is really Ash but my last name isn't Williams. But Army of Darkness is a superlative example of a good sequel. It is hilarious and cool. Though problem is the chainsaw just wasn't seen enough or used. And another problem is that it was made by Universal and wasn't an independent film like the other two. But all in all the movie is good, Bruce Campbell rocks and couldn't be more at the top of his game. Though the Apocalypse ending absolutely sucks the S-Mart ending is the best

Summary: Oddly compelling.
Review: A strange entry into the Evil Dead series. Worth a look, this movie retains its trademark humor and gore mixture.

Recommended.

Summary: That's Better!
Review: This movie was the only one of the Evil Dead series that was actually good. Why? Because it didn't take itself seriously. It seemed to realize that the first two were NOT scary, but stupid. So, Army of Darkness treats itself for what the series really is: a comedy.

Summary: Army of Darkness: Good. Director's Cut: Bad
Review: AoD "Boomstick Edition" comes with two DVDs. One contains the theatrical release. The other contains a director's cut. The theatrical release of Army of Darkness is an excellent movie. A must for action and horror lovers. The director's cut, however, is a disappointment.

For much of the added footage its quite clear why it was cut out. Pacing and timing. With the extra clips in place some of the timing on the jokes is wrong. For example, in the theatrical release after chopping up Bad Ash we cut immediately to Ash with a sack pointing at it reproachfully "that'll teach ya". In the director's cut, Ash has extra two lines between chopping up Bad Ash and making the joke. The timing is thrown and it falls a little flat. In other cases the new scenes add little to the movie and only serve to throw off the pace.

Worse, some of the classic lines have been removed. Ash, looking out at the army of the dead appraoching, says "Maybe, just maybe my boys could pull it off. Yeah, and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot" has been replaced. The classic "Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun" is gone in favor of the flat "I'm not that good."

The film quailty in the director's cut is inconsistent. Sometimes crystal clear, othertimes dark and grainy. Oddly enough, the worst parts are those that appear in the theatrical release and some of the best quality scenes are those that are cut!

The alternate ending (I won't give it away) is downbeat, cheap looking and obviously just leaving things open for a possible sequel. I can see clearly why it was cut out in favor of the famous final supermarket battle.

There are a few, scenes here and there which benefit from the extra footage. Ash's hilarious fight in the windmill with his tiny doppelgangers has been greatly extended, however its shown with no music greatly detracting from the comedic feel.

Overall, the director's cut is not as good a film as the final release. This looks like one of the times that test audience feedback helped make a better film. I would not recommend purchasing just to get the director's cut or to see the extra footage. If you can get the theatrical release alone for less, do so. This is why I give the Boomstick Edition only three stars. Were it just the theatrical release of AoD, I would give it five.

Summary: A must have for horror spoofs
Review: Army of Darkness is a remarkable movie. It comes from one of the best directors and producers in the business in Sam Raimi, and it has one of the most underrated actors of all time in Bruce Campbell.

Army tells the continuing story of Ash and his attempts to end the world of the evil the book of the dead has brought. He gets transported into the past, and must get home. To get home he must retreave the book of the dead. He accidentally releases a great evil and the war is on.

I love the special effects in Army of Darkness. The zombies hold to the silly tradition started in The Evil Dead. The skeletons reming me of the skeleton in the lipton ice commercials. I also love the brownie Ash's and seeing Ash seperate into Evil Ash.

Bruce Campbell once again steals the show as Ash. The poor S-Mart employee is better equipped in this movie with his shot gun and chain saw. Once he starts leading the natives against the skeletons, it's like a yankee in king arthurs court. It's great and predictable, but thats whats fun about it.

Army of Darkness is a great movie. It's funny and is a great horror spuff. It will leave you laughing crazy.

Summary: YOU GOT THAT!!
Review: What a great way to end the evil dead series, this sequel has lost ALL of the blood and gore from the previous two but don't let that turn you around, this is one of the funnist movies i've ever seen. As evil dead two ended we saw Ash go back in time to medevil times. But Sam Raimi decides to lose the ending where Ash is thier new king. No he tacks on that Ash is a prisoner instead and is sentenced to death when. A mage figures out that hes not an enemy and covinces Ash to help them. This one is about ten times funnier then the second and five hundred billion times funnier then the first. With the twenty minute fight scene in the end and some hilarous mid scenes this one will impress you and unlike the other DVD version this one gives you the origanal ending where a pre dumb and dumber Laurn Holly falls for Ash in the department store. This one is like a violent episode of the three stooges, but this one is pretty far from violent. The DVD itself is impressive and well worth the buy for the special features and the movie itself. This movie is Sam Raimi's top of the line movie...... YOU GOT THAT!!!
