Summary: no slim pickins' here
Review: THIS IS A DIFFERENT CUT THEN THE ONE YOU SAW IN THE MOVIE THEATER. One-liners are changed, scenes are altered, and the ending is the original ending. So this is a true directors cut, the one that the great Sam raimi gave to Universal. To be honest i like this addition a whole lot more then the standard version. So if your a Army of darkness freak buy it, soon.

Summary: LISTEN UP, YOU PRIMITIVE SCREWHEADS!
Review: What's that on your face? Well it's gotta be egg if you ain't seen this film. See how that works? The best film starring Bruce Campbell and with the words "Army" and "Darkness" in the title EVER MADE. That's right, you heard. Some people might think this series of films is purely an excuse for director Sam Raimi to inflict massive amounts of physical pain on Bruce Campbell's person. Well, if so then - hey! - what's wrong with that? Convinced? Then sally forth and purchase. Groovy!

Summary: Army of Darkness: A great surprise
Review: When I bought this movie I was just planning on it being mildly entertaining. I watched it the same night I bought it, and I was totally taken by surprise. Bruce Campbell is one of the most unique actors of our time. This movie fully brings out the best in him. Although the video and sound quality is not as good as it should be, it's tolerable. Army of Darkness opened me up to the wonderfull world of Evil Dead, Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. Although Evil Dead 2 is better, Army of Darkness should not be passed up. It should be seen to Evil Dead fans because of the appearance of Bruce, but if you're like me, it is a great first taste of what the Evil Dead Triligy is all about.

Summary: A fantastic video-- Forget the negatives
Review: I have owned a VHS copy of Army of Darkness (theatrical release) and though I enjoyed it, I always thought that it became a little unfocused and started to drag a bit about midway through. I recently bought the VHS director's cut. The story line holds together much better.

It's true that there are a couple of negatives in the director's cut. Some of the restored footage is a bit grainy, the S-Mart ending is not included, some of the picture frame has been cropped out, and one of Ash's great lines has been substituted-- none-the-less-- The director's cut is at least the equal of the theatrical release. The windmill scene is much longer and has a more natural flow. The battle scene has a much more natural flow. Following the director's cut, with all its substantial changes, are 4 deleted scenes. The ending that replaces the S-Mart ending might not be as funny but it certainly is worth seeing.

A great video and a great complement to the theatrical release.

Summary: Good Movie--Bad DVD
Review: I must agree with some of the previous reviewers. This is a good movie, but the quality of this DVD is VERY POOR!!! The final battle scene is grainy (worse than on a VHS tape) and the dubbing is bad. The words don't match the actions of the actors mouth during the final battle scene in some areas. I guess I'm going to have to buy the other (THX) version of this movie. I hate watching a movie when I am not satisified with the quality of the product. It distracts me from enjoying the movie.

Summary: Skip this one
Review: I don't expect a whole lot from my DVD's. I'm not the kind of person who sees a speck of dust on the film print and give the DVD a poor rating, I don't really pay attention to that stuff. But when something really effects your viewing pleasure I get a little angry. The extras are OK, with good commentary and four cut scenes. But the thing that really ruined this DVD for me, was the quality. During two scenes, is where the quality is HORRIBLE, worse than a VHS copy. During the Windmill scene, and the final battle scene. The quality overall of the film, was really good, except those two scenes. When you get to those scenes you will know it. It's just horrible. I am still trying to figure out how the heck Anchor Bay let this slip past? Either that, or they knew it was there, and just released it anyway. I'm glad this is limited to 40,000 copies, once they are all gone no one else will get stuck with this copy. If you want a good DVD, pick up the newly released Evil Dead II dvd with the tin case. It's a amazing DVD!!! Thanks

Summary: picture quality a disgrace
Review: The picture quality totally ruined this dvd for me. Just when you're into the film the picture goes from clear & sharp into what can only be described as dirty & grainy..a complete joke. I was so disturbed from what I saw that I lost my concentration through out the film, but the worst was to come in the battle scene at the end..I was almost in tears. please think twice about buying this dvd.

Summary: Still a great ride
Review: The FILM: The final part of the EVIL DEAD trilogy continues the tendency of the series, so you'll get even less gore (this time, "less enough" to achieve an R-Rating) and even more laughs than in part two. People looking for a scary and "serious" horror-picture should probably skip this, but I invite anyone else to join this great ride. If you want to play for laughs, you have to deliver and this film definitely does, you'll find yourself laughing hard many times. So, what can you expect? Well, Bruce Campbell at his best, delivering some of the best one-liners of the 90ies (quoted already one gazillion times, so I don't have to do it here), the biggest skeleton army in motion-picture history, many film-references to all kinds of movies, some great tunes by the always reliable Danny Elfman and a film-team which definitely had a good time, transferring this over to the viewer who will also have a very good time watching this. There are just two tiny bits I have to criticize: Some of the CGI-effects, especially the Introvision(TM)-castle, look rather dated and sometimes, the film tends to drag just a little bit, which is worsened by the longer director's cut, although it is far superior to the 81m-theatrical version which was a travesty. The DISC: The image and the sound mix are good, albeit not spectacular, and a nice set of extras can be found on the disc. But I have to join in the criticism that many customers have already voiced here: Why the heck isn't the original theatrical ending included on this disc? It was wonderful in its own right and I think many people tend to agree with me here, inculding Bruce Campbell when he says "Shop smart, shop S-Mart, got it?"

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I must agree with some of the other more negative reviews, this was the first DVD I have bought that truly disappointed me, and I love this movie. The alternate ending was interesting but why wasn't the original included somewhere? Also, the quality in some cases is worse than my VHS copy, almost like in order to have continuity with added scenes worse copies of preexisting scenes were used. Wait, like I should have, for the Special Edition to be re-released.

Summary: Best Evil Dead movie
Review: Even though the second one was funny and the first one was the origanal, this one is the best Evil Dead of them all. He goes back to the renisance. Remember when he cut off his hand in the first one, he uses a chainsaw at first but then gets a steel hand in this one. It was tyt when the battle with the people vs the dead who took over their land happened. That had to be the best battle I've seen in my life. And one of my favorite lines was from a skeleton warrior when the general said "Retreat, Retreat!" "Lets get the hell out of here, ya," which he said in a little girlish voice. When he said that I was lauin' so hard. Its one of those movies that is one of the best sequels. As far as an Evil Dead movie goes, this is the best one of them all. And you don't have to see 1 or 2 to see this one cuz it has a recap of the first to movies in the beginning.
