Summary: Perception and the blair witch phenom
Review: Some people just can not look beyond what is spoon fed to them in movie theaters, failure to look beyond the obvious may detract from your BWP & BOS viewing experience. In other words the Bw phenom are the thinking mans movies. there are nuances and references that you have to catch to make all the puzzles fit together, if you feed on mass market simple plotted, big budget big special effect movies, DON'T get this dvd, if you like obscure, odd, little movies that you have to really THINK about to understand and situations where you have to retain the knowledge of previous segments, other movies contents of books and various mythology, get this set. The game, the movies, the books (not included in the set but i recommend all of them by D.A. stern), all tie in together and help your undersanding of each piece of media. I feel the creators did their research whenit comes to specific facts and myths for the back story and mythology of what is the blair witch. It looks simple and thin on he surface but in truth it is not.

Summary: Faulty Package that needs to be fixed.
Review: There's nothing wrong with the content in this Box Set but there are problems package-wise. The listed 3 PC games are not all included in the Box Set. There are 3 CDs, they all are supposed to be the 3 PC games, but the CD for Volume I: Rustin Parr contains Volume II: Coffin Rock. So what you really get is two Volume II CDs and Volume III. This is only my experience however, but I exchanged it twice with the same result so I don't think it's rare. Anyway, buyer beware.

Summary: Cool Box Set
Review: This edition of both movies and the sci-fi special is outstanding too bad they didn't include the special that aired called Shadow of the Blair Witch it explained where the sequel was coming from. If you missed it I think you probably missed the whole point of the sequel.* Possible spoiler material. Jeff Donovans character is only supposed to be the actor who is playing the part of the real teenager who went insane on pot and alcohol and other substances with his camp group. Another possiblity with this picture is that Jeff Donovans character is insane and imagining all that takes place while inside the mental ward. I like this idea and it is supported by the video footage of his character in Burkitsville talking on his porch and the movie version where he says "they won't stop in Burkitsville ever". I like the idea of this twist and to me a good film leaves enough open for interpretation. Stand strong Joe Berlinger you did a decent job. No matter what you made it would have been reemed in the media. Thumbs up the commentary is most enlightening. Buy it.

Summary: Perfect Package of Horror!!!
Review: This is the best thing to happen to Bliar Witch fans sence the Bair Witch Project first bacame available to own. This has it all! It even comes with the soundtrack (insturmental of course) to the second film, Book of Shadows. The three Blair Witch Project CD-ROM video games that come with the set are not the best survival horror games in the world (like the Resident Evil games or Silent Hill for Playstation One) but should be enjoyable by people who are interested in learning a lot more about the structured reality of the Blair Witch legend. I really don't know who would be seen with the "Stick Man" necklace on after the sad box office sales of Blair Witch 2, but it should still be cool to have. The pack includes both The "Blair Witch Project" and "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" plus the 44 minute "Curse of the Blair Witch" which is a documentary look at the events of the first film and the events that went on before the events in the first film (it even serves as somewhat of a prequel). I have read and also have been told that the director's commentary on the first film is above avarage and very insightful. The second film is presented in widscreen format to preserve the theatrical look of the film while the first film is full screen due to the fact it was shot with hand held cameras and other equipment not able to produce the widescreen picture. And speaking of the second movie, the only reason it failed to please such a large audiance of movie goers was because it was no where as great as the first film. While the first film will always be remembered as one of the greatest horror films of all time (right up there with "The Exorcist", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and "The Shining" staring Jack Nicholson... the second film will only be remembered as falling in with the less than great horror films such as "Urban Legends", "Urban Legends: Final Cut", I Know What You Did Last Summer", "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", and "Final Destination." Like these films, Blair Witch 2 tried to tackle to many complex issues and failed to present these issues to the viewers. Many movie critics and movie goers agreed that the second film was a lot smarter than the fist film due to the fact that it openly talked about the possibility of life imatating art and the breakdown the human brain can suffer given the appropriate surroundings and stimuli. While "Book of Shadows" confronted these issues by presenting them in conversation between characters, the first film was far more succesful in presenting thses issues by forcing it's characters to actually suffer from them and and lose thier minds under the strain. The first film is, without a question, the most frightening of the two films and that is what made the second film fade in comparison. Make no mistake though, Blair Witch 2 is a great film if the viewer lets it stand by itsefl and leaves The Blair Witch Project on the video shelf at home (Fans of the second film who COMPLETELY understood the film will understand the last sentance and comletely agree).

Summary: A Very Good Deal
Review: This is the best way to have these movies, unlike you're not interested in the computer games; either way is a nice package.

The movies, are very good. Of course the first one is the best, this is the horror movie of my generation. If you got all that was intended for you to believe. If you haven't passed that, go see the mithology feature first, so you can be able to feel the experience as it should be.

BOOK OF SHADOWS is what I call a misunderstood movie. It's really good in what it tries to do. People will say that isn't like the first part, but it wasn't intended that way, or would you expect to fall for the same thing 2 times?

As for this package, is really a bargain. It contains, well, a nice package, both films, a necklace and 3 cd-rom games.

As I said, it's really good; but if you're not into it, you still can buy them both together.

Summary: mmk
Review: This pack is alright. It come with both of the movies, 3 games, the soundtrack and a stick neclace. THe games are alright but the movies, they have to be on my worst 5 movies ever lise. Almost no plot. The most dissapointing features of these movies are the endings, they just end, no big finish or anything, they just end. Very bad movies.

Summary: Value of Package Outweighs Lameness of Sequel
Review: Whatever your feelings about Book of Shadows, you have to admit that the guys behind the Blair Witch phenomenon are very good marketers. This box set is a terrific value. I already owned the Blair Witch Project on VHS, so I would probably never have purchased the DVD; in terms of the sequel, I was hesitant about going for the DVD rather than the VHS version based on the reviews I had read. I would never have bought the computer games. Thanks to this package, I now have all of the above (along with a trivial but not uncool stickman necklace). If you are any kind of Blair Witch fan, you need to buy this set.

As for the original Blair Witch disc, its main attraction is the movie commentary. Despite the fact that there are half a dozen or more people doing the commentary, it is very interesting, and it provides you with some insight and facts about the movie and how it was really made (you even find out what Heather was seeing when the trio ran away from the tent screaming that one night). Sadly, you won't find any extra scenes included here than were available on the VHS version; this is doubly disappointing because the commentators make comments on a number of occasions about cut scenes they hoped would make it on the DVD).

As for the sequel, it wasn't all that bad. It wasn't all that great either. As the movie started, I thought that it could turn out to be a pretty good story; that promise faded as the movie progressed. One thing that annoyed me was the fact that the movie took place, for the most part, inside of one building. The characters headed out into the woods on a Blair Witch tour, but we never see those woods during the second half of the movie. Just before the movie ended, I got that old feeling that says "I hope they don't end the movie at this point in the story," and--of course--that is what immediately happened. Still, it's very watchable and far from horrible. You do get a bonus with the Book of Shadows DVD; the flip side of the disc contains four songs along with the score from the movie in regular CD format. Supposedly, this is the first such DVD+CD product to be released--I don't know how impressed I should be over that.

Bottom line: if you don't have the Blair Witch Project on DVD, it would behoove you to buy this set.
