Summary: WOAH!
Review: First, I don't think too many Native Americans (or the French for that matter) of the 18th century were quite so skilled in the martial arts as has been depicted in this film. Nonetheless, my mouth was gaped wide open for the entirety of Le Pacte Des Loops. It was that good. From the opening scene, I was completely drawn in and held emotionally captive (and at times terrified) by astonishing sound and camera work. In fact, the audio/visual is surpassed by very, very few films I have seen in my life. It was that good. Viewers in the theater jumped in their seats. A few even moaned in terror. Some will be chased away by the prospect of having to read subtitles. Those people will be depriving themselves of a film that one day may be remembered as landmark film-making. It was that good. The storyline is completely original and oddly unusual. The sexual content is faithful to the storyline. The violence may be slightly gratuitous, but that is overshadowed by the existence of a deep enough underlying message. As I observed the looks on the faces of the audience exiting the theater, I decided I need to see this movie again.

Summary: Crouching courtesans, hidden poignards
Review: Review attacking the film for bad acting miss the point; it's about attitude. Lots of that. A bargain for the money is its supply of violence, sex, non-stop action and an obscure but cogent plot. The initial sequence, however, in retrospect made no sense as the pair attacked by the Wolf Men were subsequently revealed to be key figures in their group ??? Almost enough nudity but the "hero's" modesty was a bit jarring.

Summary: Fine but..
Review: The story is interesting, the picture is very nice with marvellous atmosphere; but the acting really... and dialogues are very poor. Samuel LEBIHAN ( "the little" in britanny ) plays as well as my socks.

Shame, because that movie could have been really good if it had had good actors.

Entertainment anyway
Cheers

Summary: Best movie ever
Review: This this the best movie I have ever seen. The depth in the picture, and the outstanding performance of and chemistry between Samuel Le Bihan and Marc Dacascos, makes you wonder if Christophe Gans can make a movie like this again. When the curtain goes down you just sits there wondering what hit you.
I would like to see more movies like this. I am not so good in french, but every time I see Pacte des loups I understand i little bit more. The language was not a problem, after a few minutes you are so in the movie.
See this movie!

Summary: A brilliant film!
Review: We (husband Steve and myself) thoroughly enjoyed the film. Everything matched - the costumes, the set, the language, the colours, the atmosphere, the action and the characters were portrayed to perfect detail. Steve did not mind the fact he had to read subtitles and I am lucky enough to understand French.
We had expected somthing like a werewolf story judging by the plot description in the local paper, but it was a lot more than that. The story is apparently based on true events and still today local French historians apparently do not know what the beast excactly was, so the film producers were able to use every conveivable theory and turn it into this fantastic film. We liked all of the many characters in the film and there is an amazing portrait of French aristocracy and life as such in the late 18th century, just before the French Revolution.
However, the character that impressed us the most was the taciturne Mohawk Indian Mani portrayed brilliantly by Mark Dacascos and the action scenes were excellent.
What we also appreciated very much was the research done by the team to make the story appear so authentic in every aspect.
As in most films there is a love interest, but - whereas it often slows the plot down - in this film it adds a little spice.
We would recommend the Brotherhood of the Wolf wholeheartedly, as we left the cinema with the feeling that we had just seen one of the best films for a long time!

Summary: Blatant plagarism but otherwise splendid
Review: I've read most of the reviews here after watching this movie at the theatre in Singapore. It was a wildly entertaining movie, but I have only one complaint, well, not exactly a complaint. Many of the scenes evoked a sense of dejavu because they seemed to have been taken straight from the plots or cheorography of Chinese martial arts movies. I think that's a compliment to Chinese martial arts. Even the initial bit with the stick fighting with Mark is shades of Shaolin. It's not exactly Mohawk. Remember the scene when Gregoire walks up a tree and somersaults over his opponent? Typical Chinese martial arts movie move, just check out Jackie Chan in at least 1 of 3 of his movies, he would use that move. Call me a wet blanket, but I'd rather watch something that is historically more accurate, if you're into French movies, try Ridicule, Cyrano de Bergerac, or Le Bossu, and you'll realise you don't need to copy from the East to make the movie work. I particularly enjoyed the fencing moves in Le Bossu and the story was beautiful without having to have superhuman characters. And of course, Marie Gillian was stunning. Because of the plagarism and lack of realism, this movie ranks below the three I just mentioned although I just love period dramas.

Summary: Brotherhood has plenty of "bite".
Review: I found the film to be a joy from start to finish, and the fact that it was sub-titled did not detract from the entertainment one bit.
The photography was crystal clear, and the sheer beauty and magnitude of the settings could be appreciated to the full.
Being a musician I thoroughly enjoyed the score, and it gave a whole new dimension to the film, as any good score should do.
The performances were first rate, particularly the male leads, and Mark Dacascos gave a superbly understated performance as Mani, which makes me wonder if this could be a new phase in his career, moving away from the low budget martial arts movies he has produced up to now.
The special effects were brilliant, and the monster itself was an incredible realisation.
After I first saw the film, I went a second time as soon as possible, as the fight scenes and the sheer innovation this film brought left me breathless.
If you get the chance to see this wonderful film at the cinema, take it, and get your teeth into one of the great films of 2001!

Summary: WOW
Review: Well what can I say, that hasnt been said already......

I wasnt expecting anything from this film, but I was totally blown away. It was just so good, easily one of the most enjoyable films this year. If only America could make films of this calibre.

Summary: French Cinema standing up
Review: The past few years have seen tremendous improvements in French film making. With Taxi & Taxi 2 making a big hit in action/comedy, Amelie Poulain in life/drama, and now the Brotherhood of the Wolf in an action/horror epic. The movie is great and unexpected. The cast is wonderful, Vincent Cassel shows suprising talent, the beautiful Monica Bellucci, dark and mysterious, the first time I see Samuel Le Bihan on screen, looking forward to see his next movie and for Mark Dacascos, well chosen for the role of Mani, shadow of Gregoire, but powerful, calm and dark. Do catch this movie, a beautiful adventure.
