Summary: Read this review.
Review: Suspiria has a number of superlatives in it. For one, the soundtrack is the best ever made for a horror film (with Carpenter's for Halloween a close second). Second, it has the best female lead in a horror film ever in Jessica Harper (with Nancy Loomis in Halloween a close second) - what ever happened to either of these two outstanding and beautiful actresses? Third, it has the best use of colour and lighting in any horror film (with no close second). Suspiria is proof that 1977-1978 were the best years for horror films (with Halloween its close second). The version sold in America, while edited when compared to the version available in Italy, is still tolerable (as opposed to edited versions of say Wicker Man, which are intolerable). Suspiria has scenes that are unforgettable: the taxi cab ride to the Tanz Akademie, the first encounter between Susan and the Russian maid, the hemorrhaging Susan suffers at the dance practice, the truly terrifying night the students sleep all together in the same room - of course the Mater Suspiriorum feeds off of their collective energy, which is why Susan must live in the dormitory. Not for the squeamish, and not a good date movie uness you really know the date well.

Summary: disappointing!
Review: this movie was not worth seeing. one of the worst horror movies of all time (including Howling 5). Was the director high when he made this movie?!?

Summary: SUSPIRIA---One of the best films I've seen
Review: Dario Argento, the genius behind DEEP RED, wrote and directed this terrifying horror tale of an American dance student who finds thrills and chills at a German ballet school. This film was scary, suspenseful, beautifully directed and acted. I can watch it over and over. Definilty worth the 95 minutes. Cheers to Dario!

Summary: ARGENTO'S BEST - BUT UNCUT?????
Review: This version of 'Suspiria' may be the most complete one available in most countries (don't know anything about "hearts being janked out", as someone below has put, but there is a shot of a knife plunging into a beating heart). Apparently, the only complete version is available in Italy. According to one reviewer who saw it on its cinema release(I think it was Alan Frank - check in 'Starburst' magazine, late 70s), there's an extra gore scene during the climax (the big servant guy gets cut in half by a sheet of glass)-which probably livens up the droopy last 15 minutes (Argento's great, but usually has trouble keeping it up for 90 mins). If anyone out there's seen this version, give us the low down. In just about any version, though, Suspiria's nerve-jangling and unique, but loses as much on video as '2001', or any David Lynch movie.

Summary: This is not a good movie.
Review: I'm sorry, But when I rented this i exspected this to be great and it isn't nearly good. The acting is fine., the colors and the atmosphere are neat, but the story wasn't very engaging. In fact it seemed stupid and the ending was really cut short and wasn't good either. This film doesn't hold a candle to Rosematy's baby, halloween, or Carrie. Sorry, but not even close.

Summary: Visually stunning nightmare!!!
Review: Argento proved with this film that he is the leading master in the horror genre! Somewhat like a bizarre acid trip, with it's blinding kaleidoscope of colours and it's deafning, un-nerving music score ( provided by Goblin), it tells the story of Suzy, a ballet student, who arrives in Germany during a vicious thunderstorm, to attend a grand ballet school. Once there, she discovers it to be a witches covern, who murder students who discover their secret. With the most terrifying opening and ending in horror history ( forget Scream), this is a classic!!!

Summary: Actually 4 and 1/2 stars
Review: The thing that stands out for me about this movie is how well directed it is. So many of the shots are amazing and I have since seen them imitated in other films. I liked the music but not as much as others. The acting is so-so and the plot becomes fairly routine, but those do not bring a movie like this down very much. In a horror movie, the barometer I go by is the depth and degree of fear it induces. Suspiria succeeds on that level. Not as well as Exorcist or Halloween, but it isnt too far off. The first murder in the film is truly mesmerizing. Not one gruesome killing in the slasher movies comes close to this scene. The key to the fear is the mystery. I actually didnt want to know any answers. The story works best as an absolute mystery with only hints at the truth. Also, be prepared for color. Lots of color and it is gorgeous to see. I have only seen the widescreen version listed here on Amazon and it was worth the cost. Truly unforgettable movie.

Summary: Dario Argento's best and scariest movie
Review: This movie is awesome. If you like violent, gory, atmospheric horror films, you will love Suspiria. This film is beautifully shot and has some of the most inspired and graphic set-piece murders ever filmed. When are they going to release this movie on DVD? And will Argento ever finish this trilogy that he began in Suspiria and continued in Inferno? Too many of Argento's films are "missing in action" on DVD(and videotape as well). This needs to be rectified and soon!

Summary: Explicity violent classic!
Review: Dario Argento really made a cool movie here. Rich in sexual tension, explicit gore and artiful suspense, this pleases fans of Prom Night, Halloween and Friday the 13th. I saw the uncut version and I found the gore a bit too explicit. Quesy people just better watch out. Extremely scary, this film is a must see!
