Summary: Brain numbing!
Review: "Burial Ground" is director Andrea Bianchi's answer to Lucio Fulci's "Zombie Flesh Eaters". It even directly rips off that films most famous moment (the eye skewering) in a hilariously inferior copycat sequence. Sadly, there isn't really a lot to get excited about, the film is an absolute turkey. The plot simply pitches a group of people staying in a country manor against an invasion of zombies, and limps from one "gore" highlight to another, until almost everyone is dead. And that's it.
The remastered print actually does the film a disservice, as it shows up how bad the famous gore really is, as well as the amateurish make-up of the various zombies. The print certainly seems uncut, but the famous "head pulled through the glass " and "breast biting" scenes seem very tame now...The acting is completely over the top, everybody trembles and screams constantly at each approaching zombie, and the dubbing adds to this mess with non stop hysterical wimpering from every character.
At least the film is shot on location, and the house itself is a goregeous ornate mansion, but that is my only compliment! I'll admit I like bad horror movies, and have a lot of time for them if they make me laugh. I did get a lot of comedy mileage out of the dialogue, notably during some of the "erotic" encounters as much as the scatterbrained plans about how to fight the undead. Plus every scene involving Peter Bark as the supposedly "young" son who has sexual designs on his mother left me speechless.
You can't beat H G Lewis for cracking good laughs in the gore department, so this is really only for those who really have to see every uncut Euro-horror. However I would recommend Bruno Mattei's "Hell of the Living Dead" if you want an example of truly awful zombie cinema.

Summary: Campiness galore
Review: I am a fan of the eurohorror genre, but I even found this to be campy... but its still fun. Horrible dubbing and acting, and the lighting is preety bad in a few spots but I still love this movie. It has great entertainment value and preety good zombie makeup. I like romero's or fulci's zombies better though. I never wouldve guessed the same guy who did the make-up for zombie did it for this.... or a girl directed this one. I found bob wanting to have sex his mother to be hauntingly disturbing. By the way, this is the only movie I have ever seen where a womans breast nipple has been bitten off. I found myself laughing during alot of this, because it does have that un-intentionall comedy to it. The gore is excellent as well. The regular joe, would most likely hate this movie and so would your average "scream" fan. All in all, if you like eurohorror, zombie/cannibal movies and bad films that will make you laugh, get a copy of this.

Summary: Great Zombie Attack Move That Incurs Too Much Undue Wrath!
Review: Boy, sometimes reviews just completely miss the mark! I've actually seen many web reviews proclaiming 'Burial Ground' to be the worst movie ever made, a disaster, etc. While there's no doubt the acting is pretty bad and the script is essentially non-existent, it's a great zombie movie, period. Nobody watches a zombie film for character development, a deep plot, or great acting. I watch zombie films to see great-looking zombie fx, grisly killings, creepy atmosphere, and anti-Hollywood endings, and 'Burial Ground' delivers big-time on all counts.

Yes, the plot has a few holes, but is far from terrible.. A professor or archaeologist-type invites a group of friends up to his mansion for the weekend. The night before they arrive, he sets out to fool around in a nearby, ancient Etruscan tomb. He awakens the long-dead Etruscans, apparantly by smacking the walls with a hammer, although the inference would be he caused the corpse's awakening by crossing the threshold of their sacred burial ground. He's overcome by the zombies, and appropriately has his innards ripped out. His friends arrive to find the good professor missing, and his servant/butler lets them in. After a few obligatory sex romps & silly banter, the zombies descend upon the mansion, ripping everyone apart in gruesome fashion, with the newly-dead rising to join the massacre. That's it. For what the movie is, that's all you need.

Despite claims to the contrary, the zombie make-up is outstanding, with a few hokey-looking ones now & then. These are the ancient dead, and they look every bit ancient. They are worm-ridden, rotted, dusty husks of terror. Yes, when struck in the head with a stone, the skulls shatter like pottery. I wouldn't expect a zombie that has been dead for thousands of years to explode in a pool of blood when destroyed. These suckers are smart too, which is a great twist. Once the zombies trap the victims in the mansion, they begin using axes, hammers, and even a battering ram to get into the mansion for some fresh meat. Pretty cool! The gore effects are good as well, although the VHS copy is a bit too dark at some points. Good news is that an uncut DVD version is in the works. The film does borrow heavily from Lucio Fulci's 'Zombie', even throwing in an impaled eyeball on a shard of glass. The mansion & its grounds create a creepy atmosphere, and although our victims manage to take out quite a few zombies, the horde seems to keep coming. As the hopelessness & despair deepens, no happy ending is visible. In the end, EVERYONE gets taken out by the zombies! Beats the cliched, typical 'heroes win' storyline in most of today's poor horror efforts. There is a weirdo plot device I must mention, however. One of the victims has a young son, who for some reason is portrayed by an elvish actor who appears every bit of 35-40 years old, and has an incestuous desire towards mom. After dying and returning as one of the zombies, he takes a 'bite' out of mom. Has to be seen!

'Burial Ground' gets right to the point. Roughly 15 minutes in, it becomes a complete zombiefest. The stirred undead attack, and we are never forced to sit through silly dialogue or plot twists. The monsters don't become secondary to idiotic character development. As a zombie film, it rocks! Those looking for character depth or storyline are in the wrong genre. If you are a fan of zombie films, this is a must-own. Don't believe the naysayers. 'Burial Ground' has suffered undeserved bashing. In my opinion, it is a more-enjoyable movie than 'Day of the Dead' or 'Tombs of the Blind Dead'. 'Burial Ground' is an extremely underrated zombie film, don't be swayed by poor reviews. You'll miss out! I found my copy ...in a clearance bin at the video store, and feel it was a complete bargain! I can't wait for the DVD version to be released!

Summary: Entertainment Value Outweighs The Bad...
Review: In order to properly critique this film, I will rate each of it's elements, separately.
Entertainment Value: *****
This is one entertaining movie, and it moves very fast. The best part is the zombies are twice as smart as the humans. They concoct plans that actually outwit them. I don't want to give any specifics away here, so I'll leave it at that. Just trust me on this one, it is a lot of fun. Warning: some reviews below, give some of the best scenes away.
Plot: *
If there weren't any zombie films before this one, you wouldn't know what the heck was going on! This is basically derivative of all the better known zombie films, with some totally bizarre twists. The script is very disproportional. The dialog is perfectly awful. Basically, you could not intentionally set out to write a script this bad!
Production Value: *1/2
This movie exerts almost no directorial style, or class. The gore and makeup is done with very little, or no attention to detail. I can't believe the same guy that did the effects for Fulci's "Zombie" did the effects for this movie. Unbelievable. The lighting is bare bones. The crew is seen once, for certain, in the production, and the dubbing is very bad. On the bright side, some of the soundtrack is pretty good.
Acting: 1/2
The acting is totally overdone. Definitely, one of the funniest parts of the movie. I found myself gleefully anticipating every line!
So there you have it. A very entertaining, very bad movie. One of the most entertaining films I've ever seen. No joke.

Summary: Good bloody zombie fun!
Review:
A professor whom is studying a ancient crypt near a cemetery accidently opens evil from beyond the grave on a burial ground. The curse unleashes the dead to rise up from their grave to devour the living for their cannibalistic needs, lucky for the undead, their main course will be a group of socialites having a weekend in a large mansion.

Somewhat entertaining but gruesome supernatural Italian horror thriller with some flaws such as the phoney looking zombies themselves with the acting, but the gore is definitely nasty even the infamous breastfeeding scene that you'll never forget.

The DVD has a better transfer than the dark and danky Vestron VHS version with great sound, the extras aren't too shabby such as the interview with the director & actress, original trailer to the movie with trailers to other Shreik Show presentations and a neat poster-and-still gallery.

This movie is recommended to gorehounds, zombie movie fans and horror lovers everywhere but those who are squeamish should stay away.

Also recommended: "Night of the Living Dead" ( 1968 and 1990), "Dawn of the Dead" ( 1978 and 2004), "Day of the Dead", "Demons", " Resident Evil 1 & 2", " The Evil Dead", "House By The Cemetery", "Zombie", "City of the Living Dead ( a.k.a. Summary: A Must For Gore Fans!
Review: If you are looking for a good movie, with good acting and a intriguing plot look elsewhere. However, If you're looking for an enjoyable bit of cheese, and you've had a few beers, then you might like this one. It's your basic cheesy Italian zombie movie.

It's about some archaeologist awakening the dead and then they come to life and start killing people in a big house. That's about as much of the plot as I could make out. I'm not entirely sure there was much more that I was supposed to get.

There is some nice gore and some "nasty" killing scenes. The whole thing with the kid and his mother I didn't quite get either but it makes for a pretty nasty ending. Andrea Bianchi directs this campy, gory zombie flick. It's no masterpiece but it's worth the price of admission for the avid gore fan. I'd recommend this one to all the gore fans out there. Everyone else I suggest you rent it before you buy it.

Summary: Interesting little zombie movie
Review: 'Burial Ground' is another relic of that wonderful time period for bad movies - the early 80s. Italy, in particular, was churning out shoddy crap made on minute budgets by the hour, and there was perhaps no subgenre of horror movies that kept Italy more busy than the zombie movie. The key differences between Italian and American zombie films: the Italian ones were cheaper, had bad dubbing, and were interested in but one thing - showing as much blood, carnage, and close-ups of maggoty zombies as is possible. The characters were usually irrelevant and the scripts might as well have been improvised by the actors on the spot.

The string of cheap Italian zombie flicks began with Lucio Fulci's semi-slick rip-off of Romero's zombie films, 'Zombie.' Far cheaper, more obscure and more plotless was Andrea Bianchi's 'Burial Ground.' The fact that this film is technically inept and has pathetic dubbing, even by Italian B movie standards, should not dissuade zombie enthusiasts from checking it out. It wastes no time in getting to its zombies, and despite the obvious masks that the actors are wearing, there's something very unsettling about them. In fact, there are a number of both intentionally and unintentionally unsettling things about this weird little movie, and on just that basis it's worth seeking out.

The music score, which consists of a tuneless series of sci-fi noises, either fits right in or is completely inappropriate - I really don't know which it is. Perhaps it's so inappropriate that it paradoxically becomes perfect. There's also a child character played by an actor who appears to be a middle-aged midget. To make things worse, he has an Oedipal relationship with his mother. It is because of these odd details that this is unique zombie trash and not just zombie trash. And don't worry about getting your gore fix - you will. I recommend this one.
