Summary: Worst. Jackie. Ever.
Review: I have probably seen a dozen Jackie Chan movies and loved them all, City Hunter was the first movie of his to dissapoint me. The stunts are almost nonexistant and pretty lame when they do appear. The fight scenes are also dissapointing.

The worst part of the movie would have to be the rap video sequence. It was the most god awful thing that I have seen in my life.

The best part of the movie was when Jackie and his opponents are fighting in a video arcade and they all get transformed into different street fighter 2 characters. That part is actually really cool and if you are an old school fan of street fighter I would recommend renting this DVD just to see that. Other than that this is a movie to pass on.

Summary: The Absolute Worst Jackie Chan Film - Stay Away!
Review: I have seen all the JC films and was building a DVD collection when I came across this one. My wife and I played it once and I immediately tried to return it to the guy who sold it to me and finally ended up unloading it on e-bay. An example at how offensive and unfunny this one is: tough guys boarding boat see 2 guys dressed flamboyantly, obviously together - tough guys say "I hope they all die of AIDS." Also plenty of scenes with one actress who is so top heavy (it took me a while to figure this one out being that she wasn't by U.S. standards) that she keeps on falling over. Please I'm a big fan of JC but this film deserves to be burned. His best HK films are Drunken Master 2 (beautiful film, not available yet on DVD), Police Story (best action/stunts), Dragons Forever (ensemble action/humor with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao), Wheels on Meals (more fun with Sammo and Yuen), and Young Master (best fight scene). By the way, the Amazon.com review form requires that you give a film at least one star (not my idea).

Summary: If you like live action anime...
Review: I have to say that this is perhaps one of the best movies I've ever seen, and by far the best Jackie Chan one. Now, this movie isn't for everyone, but I think most people will enjoy it. Yes, it's extremely cheesy, but that adds to the greatness of it all.

I first saw this as a low qulity fansub, so finding the DVD was very nice. I've never seen the City Hunter anime (or read the manga), but this movie certianly makes me want to! If you get a laugh out of seeing anime-style humor (falling down, giant mallets, etc.) done in REAL LIFE, then you'll love this! The Street Fighter scene is definately the best (and I'll leave it at that so it's not runined for people who have never seen it). Another great scene is the performance of "Gala Gala Happy", which is a cool song IMO.

If you're an anime fan who likes Jackie Chan, then buy this NOW! If you're not an anime fan, but like Jackie Chan, then you will probably enjoy this. And if you're [insert what you are here], you may or may not like it, but I suggest buying it anyway, because there's a better chance that you will like it than not.

Summary: My Favorite Jackie Chan Flick!
Review: I really like this movie a lot! I first saw it at a Hong Kong film fest at the mall in its uncut subtitled form. I later rented it from a Blockbuster and it was dubbed and many of my favorite scenes were cut out. Don't rent from that place if you can help it!

Anyway, this movie is about Ryu Saeba, a private detective of considerable ability. Well, he is cool anyway. OK, he likes women and is otherwise not too competant, but he is a good fighter and acrobat. He ends up getting a case to find a rich man's daughter and follows her onto a cruise ship that just happens to be a terrorist target! Hilarity and action ensues as Ryu fights the bad guys.

I really enjoyed the "Gala Gala Happy" rap video in the middle of the movie (this is one that was missing from the Blockbuster version). Also cool: Jackie Chan gets turned into various Street Fighter characters. The top heavy secret agent (well secret agent's friend) is not to be missed either!

Summary: Jackie Chan at his best
Review: i've seen many anime in my childhood. city hunter is very popular in japan and i managed to watch a few episodes in korea. i always wandered what would it be like if an anime show was converted to a movie starring real people. to my luck, city hunter starred the legendary dragon (Jackie Chan). he's not japanese and a little old but that doesn't matter. this movie is full of anime style physical and verbal humor. i can't remember a moment i wasn't laughing. and also the action sequences are awesome. jackie chan is awesome on skateboard (wheels on meals). fight scenes are cool too using his trademark agility and stunning techniques (but no jumping off walls in this movie). jackie chan used a stunt double about 3 times but only for simple things (i don't know why). i can't describe how well the action and comedy are, you just have to see the moive, it's really that good. if you like anime and you like jackie chan, then this movie is perfect for you.

Summary: Shitty Hunter
Review: If there is a single candidate for worst martial arts film ever, CITY HUNTER would easily be that film. Never have I had less fun watching the great Jackie Chan in action.

And even Jackie will tell you he wished he'd never made this movie. It says something about the movie's buffoonery that even the old POWER RANGERS show was less cartoonish.

And that's a shame, because we might have really had something here. I was looking forward to seeing Jackie trade blows with Richard Norton, who he later battled in MR. NICE GUY, but even more exciting was the film's promise of a duel with British kickboxing champion Gary Daniels (FIST OF THE NORTH STAR).

Gary is a world class martial artist, and an anomaly among martial arts stars in that he is just as comfortable playing villian's as heroes. He and Don "The Dragon" Wilson had two excellent fights in BLOODFIST IV: DIE TRYING, so I was anticipated one of the most earth-shattering duels of Jackie's and Gary's careers.

But no. The whole thing turns into nothing more than seeing the two of them dressed as Ken and Chun-Li out of STREET FIGHTER, and zig-zagging around like something out LOONEY TUNES.

Jackie, How could do this to your fans? To Gary? To Richard? To Yourself?

Well, good thing you made up for this mundane crapola the next year with DRUNKEN MASTER II, A film I strongly recommend both as a comedy/martial arts classic, and as an apology from Jackie to anyone dumb enough to watch CITY HUNTER.

LIKE ME!!!!

Summary: EVEN JACKIE CHAN DOESN'T LIKE THIS MOVIE
Review: Jackie Chan plays Japanese detective seaching for heiress on a luxury liner. Maybe I didn't like this film because I've never been a big fan of Jackie Chan's films, but according to the author of Hong Kong Babylon, Jackie Chan himself supposedly "loathed" this movie and watching it makes you understand why. It feels just like a comic book (which it was actually based on) and has little to recomend it. It does have lovely Joey Wong and Chigmy Lau along with some Japanese sex bomb, a couple of so-so fight scenes, and a lot of silly scenarios that do little more than get on your nerves. Definately rent this before you buy it.

Summary: 2 1/2 For Jackie Fans who want sumthin a bit different.
Review: My reason for this rating is because a casual moviegoer would not enjoy this film. Nor would any Kung Fu movie fans. There are a few scenes which are very memorable, ie- Bruce Lee Move theatre, Streetfighter, and a pretty cool end fight scene. This is one silly film, maybe even a bit stupid and weird at times. My two friends hated this movie alot, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Jackie Chan has done better, no doubt, and this is not for first timers. Its an attempt at creating the world of Anime in a non-animation setting. I appreciate what its trying to do, and it had alot of funny gags that you would find normally in an anime. (FOr example guy characters always are hungry and girl chasing)The fight scenes are goofy, but as always jackie makes them interesting, especially the end fight. This is not for everyone, but its cool to see an Anime come to life like this.

HardCore Jackie Chan fans need only apply.

Review: overall this movie was very good. entertaining but slow in the beginning i thinketh. whoever wrote the script probably should have done a better job at getting all the characters known; for instance, i don't recall ever hearing the names of the two ladies that were on the boat working with the guy who was throwing the cards...and at some points soundquality was a little funky in that i couldn't really hear over the music they played while actors were talking.
Extremely funny during the Street Fighter part - good impersonation :) of cartoons .
i think they should have also put the credits in English too, for all the characters because i had to actually come here just to find out who the other characters were :(
