Summary: I'm going to rant again about the bloody censored version...
Review: There was and perhaps still is an R-rated version of this film. This was the way that the film was shot, the way it was written and the way it was meant to be seen. I hoped and prayed that the DVD version would be the full, uncut R-rated version rather than the happy joy joy kid-and-profit friendly PG-13 one that was shown in cinemas in all its spliced up, blood free glory. I said it before and I'll say it again.... I am not demanding blood and intestines and gore flying about a screen when I see an action sequence, but I do prefer a point for the sequence. Whereas in other John Woo films, people shoot guns; people get hit. Now, John Woo does this well. John Woo does this very well, but Mission Impossible is this same principle of the people shooting guns, but nobody gets hit. The hero shoots into space, the evil horrible bad man shoots air. Nobody is hit in the movie, and even when they are, we see a badly cut up censored bit of something or other if anything at all. If you've seen the movie, then you would understand what I am moaning about, but if only.... IF BLOODY ONLY.... there were to be an uncut, censor free version, I would be content. But of course, that will never happen. There is money to be made! Ha ha! Whee!

Summary: An Instant Action Film Classic!
Review: Despite mixed reviews and mediocre story line, John Woo's M:I-2 is quite possibly the best action movie I've ever seen.

Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, an agent of the IMF, a CIA agency. He must stop a madman from letting a deadly virus break loose in the world.

For those of you who haven't seen it, I recommend it! Especially the high octane action scenes .... Although quite different than the first M:I (partly because of Woo's direction), this film (which should be fantastic on DVD!) belongs right next to the first on a collector's shelf! It certainly is going on mine!

Summary: A great masterpiece
Review: As I saw this movie in the cinema I was very surprised. When i saw Mission Impossible 1 some years ago I found it a middle-rate movie like many other action movies. But this second part is so full of suspense and dramatic... it's a a feast for your eyes! Tom Cruise shows his best sides and Thandie Newton as his partner is a lovely sight! *g* Buy this DVD and enjoy the game! You won't be disappointed!

Summary: A lot different from the first...
Review: ...this comes from having very different director's styles.

John Woo with his all-action blow them up, shoot 'em up scenes verses the first MI movie which was very much like the TV series. If you want to see some spectacular, mind-boggling stunts then this is the movie for you. I was also curious to see how this film showcased Sydney - the city where I live. In fact a lot of the movie was filmed around the building where I work. Weird seeing such familiar surroundings in a blockbuster movie.

This is one to see first on the big screen and then one to relive over and over on the small one....

Summary: A tepid Woo-fest action flick
Review: I tried to avoid being caught up in the hype for MI2, but was still disappointed. The love interest seemed very out of character for the Ethan Hunt we saw in the original MI, and left me somewhat cold. The amount of face changing going on made me think the movie should have been Face/Off 2, not MI2. And Woo's directing trademarks had a habit of distracting me from the movie, leaving me thinking 'oh yes, another Woo set piece'. For me the movie was a great disappointment, but I'm sure many people will love it.

Summary: Best Action Film of the Year
Review: If you like action, don't pass on this DVD. It is a must for all Tom Cruise fans. Thandie Newton (Nyah) and Dougray Scott (Sean Ambrose) really added to the excitment, action and suspense. Tom Cruise is great and the romantic triangle between Eathen Hunt, Nyah & Sean Ambrose was worth 6 trips to see the film.

Summary: Typical Action Movie-But Well Worth It
Review: Mission Impossible 2 was completely different from Tom Cruise's first adaptation of the TV show. This one was a vehicle for the Jon Woo action sequences to be sure, but it was also a blood-pumping, heart-racing good time. I loved it! It had me singing the theme song for weeks after seeing it. The story line was typical of action movies today: bad guy gets his hands on something that could destroy the world and there is only one good guy who can stop him. No, it would never happen, but it makes for a great movie. I was on the edge of my seat and yelling at the screen the whole time. It's an exciting movie and I highly recommend it.

Summary: The reductio ad absurdum of the action movie.
Review: It's hard to know which pejorative to open with to summarise this movie. Suffice to say that during the moments we were supposed to take seriously or be stunned by the choreographed action the people left and right of me were giggling, shaking their heads, or shielding their eyes with their hands. Sometimes all three things at once. And it's hard not to feel sorry for them: it's so embarrassing to have sit there and watch actors make fools of themselves. This movie is an excellent example of how it all goes wrong when you hire a director who doesn't premise his action scenes on real life, but on real life as portrayed in action movies. You basically get a double-dose of sickening unreality. Top five objectionable points:

1. During a hand-to-hand combat sequence, it apparently helps to leap into the air and rotate your body several times before planting a boot on your opponent's jaw. Ten times out of ten your opponent will not have ducked out of the way and despite having spun around several times for no reason, you will be able to land a perfectly accurate kick. Punching him may be quicker, but then the polaroids wouldn't look as exciting.

2. It's lazy. The moviemakers have suited themselves at every turn and tossed any sense of reality out the window. Action movies were never meant to be true to life, but they knew where to stop before alienating their audience. This movie has no respect for its audience.

3. The film oozes the arrogant attitude of: 'Who cares about character development? The terrific action scenes will keep them happy'. Ahem. It's impossible to give a fig about the hero getting killed if you don't give a fig about the hero. So all suspense sequences instantly fail.

4. Leading on from that, the action sequences were *not* terrific. They were bombastic, self-satisfied and self-impressed. They looked ridiculous. You can tell the pivotal moment - you always see it replayed three times from different angles in slow motion.

5. The lovey-dovey scenes had about as much chemistry as an Arts exam. Thandie Newton has an annoying 'bloody' English accent and tries to look like one of the Corrs. Tom Cruise's slo-mo action moments could have been for a shampoo advert.

Plus a plot that makes no sense, a villain who's just some guy, and not one - imagine - not one attempt at a one-liner. Take it from me: any movie that makes me want to get this off my chest to the tune of seven paragraphs is not worth checking out.

Summary: Ok, if u just wanna watch some action
Review: Yes, this movie had a lot of good action sequences which I liked. But the plot doesn't have anything special. Most John Woo movies like Broken Arrow & Face/Off focus on more than just the action. This movie could have been good, but I can't say that I liked it cause of the flat flat plot. I wouldnt reccomend it, unless you just want to watch action.

Summary: MI2, is NOTHING like the first!
Review: Don't let this movie turn you off to watching the MASTERPIECE that is Mission Impossible (1). If you've only seen the second, its NOTHING like the first. Its substance AND style, without the brainless action. I guarantee you'll love it! Go buy it right now!
