Summary: revamped Kung-Fu flick does the trick!
Review: If you are a fan of the old 60's and 70's kung-Fu flicks you will love this movie! What makes it superior to its predecessors is that there is a story, well choreographed fights, and instead of lousy dubbing they used subtitles to make it look more original. The bad costumes are there as well as the flying over rooftops but thats because they are sticking to ancient chinese roots. If Bruce were still around he would give this movie an 11 on a 10 point scale!

Summary: One of the greatest film experiences of my life
Review: I knew critics were saying good things about Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, yet I made sure not to read any reviews so I could get the most out of the movie. Though I was expecting just to see a satisfying movie, I had no idea what was about to come. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is one of the best movies I have ever seen in my life. I was spellbound with the grace that the action sequences in this movie possessed. I gasped with joy when witnessing the freedom the characters in the movie had that empowered them to leap effortlessly from rooftop to rooftop. The director uses these sequences to demonstrate the awesome powers its characters have. The action in this movie left me paralyzed enough that I could have watched it a few more times just like that, but then I got something else that was completely unexpected. In my opinion, the love stories in this movie sinks the Titanic with one blow. The unspoken love between the two main characters has touched my heart deeply. Another love between the two younger characters was a delightful addition as well. The story is something to be appreciated also. The plot sets the stage for its sequences perfectly, consisting of a master who wishes to train the thief of his legendary sword to wield its power through discipline understanding, and there are a few turns and detours which keep the action rolling. This movie has all of the moves. The story is brilliant, the acting is flawless, the action sequences are breath taking, and the love story is pure and original. You would be a fool not to at least watch this movie. My heart nearly exploded at a dozen different scences in this movie. At times... the movie is almost to much to grasp, too much to handle. This is an epic. This is a movie that will stand out in my mind forever. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a masterpiece.

Summary: Great foreign film!
Review: I thought this movie was excellent. I don't mind subtitles, and I think they added to this movie's foreign appeal. If you like tragedies such as Romeo and Juliet, you will love this. This movie combined the reality of death with the whimsy of flying people and women [fighting]. If you like Bruce Lee or any type of martial arts, you will enjoy this movie. This was unlike anything I have seen this summer, or probably will see. I plan on buying it on DVD on June 5th!!

Summary: HIGH ART PRESENTS CHINESE ACTION-ADVENTURE FABLE
Review: The first I heard of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON was in a National Public Radio interview with one of the stars, the beautiful and graceful woman warrior so skillfully played by Michelle Yeoh. In fact, Ms. Yeoh was first a classical dancer .. including ballet ... before her film career took off. This would explain how she generated the self discipline to master the martial arts moves that she needed to be convincing in the movie. She said that most of the action scenes were very physically dangerous to execute. Without her disciplined dancing background and the expert choreography of the fight scenes she would certainly have landed in the hospital with serious injuries, she said. As it was, each day after filming Michelle Yeoh said she was both exhausted and "beaten up." The next day, she had to show up on the set again to face another grueling day of the same thing.

Researching where Michelle Yeoh's and fellow actors' moves came from, it was the fight choreography Yuen Wo-Ping. In fact, it was Wo-Ping who launched martial arts superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. He put the incredible moves in the popular movie ''The Matrix.'' Knowing this, it becomes nearly "obvious" why it is that "Matrix" and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON are often very similar. Walls, roofs and treetops are just "speed bumps" to be leapt over with ease during the action.

Just as much fun to watch as Michelle Yeoh is her comrade in arms, Yu Shu Lien. Lien is really just as spectacular in her moves, and the character she plays - a warrior who supports herself by running her own security agency - is less detached than the warrior Li Mu Bai expertly played by Chow Yun Fat . But the women are the dominant sex in CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. It's has to be the women's-empowerment film of the new millennium. The women can do anything the men can do, and are usually better at it. This is not a male put down, but rather it makes the competition in love and war all the more interesting.

This is a history making film from China not only because it breaks new cinematic ground. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON won an academy award for Best Foreign Film. It certainly is!

Summary: Amazing!
Review: All I have to say about this movie is...WOW! The fight scenes in this movie were phenomenal! I had high expectations for this movie as I am a martial arts fan, but when I saw the movie, these expectations were shattered because of its high quality. It's probably my favorite movie now. Everyone I've talked to that has seen it has loved it. Do yourself a favor and go rent it...you won't be disappointed.

Review: Don't believe the hype. The matrixesque martial arts fall flat especially when the characters fly across the screen. This reminds me of a play I saw in grade school, "Peter Pan". The story itself is nothing new. The acting is average. I do think cHOW yUN fAT is superb actor but he alone is not enough to carry this film. If this is the best of the kung fu genre than I don't think I need to watch a kung fu film ever again. As for the rave reviews, the oscar nominees, the best foreign film award, critics top ten, etc. Ang Lee is lucky. Maybe "Sense and Sensibility" hit a soft spot WITH the critics, but not with me. tHIS MOVIE IS the most over rated film of the last decade.

Summary: Unbelievable!!
Review: A cross between "Peter Pan" and "Enter the Dragon", this film is truly a visual masterpiece. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" raises the bar for all future martial arts and action films and will undoubtedly spawn a revival of films in the fantasy genre. The performances by the star of "The King and I" (Yun-fat Chow) and action star Michelle Yeoh are both memorable and the direction by Ang Lee is without equal. While the cinematography and visual effects are by far the most outstanding aspects, the story line is believeable and intrigueing. This movie should ONLY be seen on DVD with a flat screen (if you've got the disposable income). This is one DVD that will give you MORE in return than what you pay.

Summary: Martial Arts Fantastique
Review: This DVD is absolutley amazing. The movie was by far a blockbuster and the martial arts in the film were depicted with style as well as grace. The Mandarin dialogue used in the film was beautiful! My boyfriend and I follow the martial arts and chinese culture religiously and this movie was the ultimate expression of Taoism, love, understanding, and the meaning of the chinese way of life, not to mention the way of the Wu- shu. Enjoy!

Summary: Wow
Review: I'm still reeling from the film...I had put off going to see this movie for no particular reason, but am very happy I finally made it to the theatre before it left. I can't imagine this movie being quite the same on a small screen. The best film I've seen in quite some time--whoever said it wasn't as good as "The Matrix" needs help! The movie was erotic, intriguing, exciting and evocative--if you can make it all the way through the first viewing without tears you must have a heart of stone. And what more could I ask? A heroine with my name (Jen) who isn't an insipid bimbo :) Worthy of all awards it received and more--must see.
