Review: This was a wonderful movie about a group of very good friends. The acting is realistic for the movies sake. It will definately pull at your heartstrings. Also full of the comapassion one hopes for in their end days/years. I was a caregiver so this was an important view. Highly recommended!!!!!

Summary: Important must-see movie for EVERYONE!
Review: Touching movie that everyone should see, whether you or gay or straight! I was young and unaware when the AIDS crisis began, and this film educated me SO MUCH about what it was like when it all began. I am so happy to be able to tape over my "taped off of cable" VHS tape, now that this long out of print film is on DVD! The picture is crystal clear, and it sounds great. The sound has not been remastered in 5.1, but it's okay, because this is not a sound effects laden sort of film. The letterboxing makes it look even better- the pan and scan TV version is sort of annoying to watch, so this DVD is a vast improvement! There really aren't too many extra's on this DVD to speak of: just a trailer. No cast or crew bio's, no commentary from anyone that worked on the film. I cannot complain too much, I'm just happy that this movie is available on DVD.

Summary: "Longtime" is compassionate and compelling
Review: Watching the development of friendship unfold between these characters left me in complete awe. I felt that I was able to share in not only the joys, but just as important the sorrows. The movie's realistic re-enactment of a time gone by, the ending reunion of the friends, and the promise of what could have been left me completely in tears.

Review: When I first encountered this movie, it was on TV and I caught the very end, and watched my best friend cry. I asked him what it was, and he told me. So, I went and rented the movie, and knew exactly why he was crying. I found the DVD and bought it instantly. I love playing it for my friends who haven't seen it so I can cry with them. The song "Post Mortem Bar" at the end caps off a great film.
I am glad there were no stereotypical gay men in this movie, because it helped to show the universality of the disease. It can hit anyone. There were some scenes that could have been deleted (I.E. the deer on the beach, the "hot date" line) but they helped add length to an otherwise very short movie. In any case, a great movie that has, and will continue to stand the test of time when dealing with AIDS. And, on a lighter note, if you are gay, and haven't seen this movie, I'm taking away your gay card and not giving it back until you do!

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: With eyes wide open, this movie was the first to ever really hit the nail on the head regarding the gay experience of AIDS in its earliest, scariest incarnations. Those of us who have lost friends to the first wave of the plague remember well the desperate sense of panic and confusion. The characters here are all well-played, and well-chosen/written -- I particularly loved Dermot Mulroney (yes, he was in My Best Friend's Wedding) and Campbell Scott. I think of this movie as a piece of history, sparingly written and filled with wit and humanity, it moves you and surprises you, and has taken on an even more poignant quality in these days of stronger medications and inhibitors that might have lengthened the many lives already lost.
