Summary: Addictive!
Review: The more you watch this film, the more you get sucked into the magnetism of its subject, fashion wunderkind, Gia Carangi, and even more so into that manic phenomenon known as Angelina Jolie. Why would I recommend this film? Angelina Jolie. To whom would I recommend it? To everybody who wants to come face to face with dramatic genius. For that is what Angelina is. In this role and in every other role of hers.....She is simply incapable of mediocrity. She makes you follow her every step, her every smile, cry, sigh, whimper...you name it......and glues you to her for the next two hours....ECCE FEMME!Jolie could make anybody's life look stunning and unforgettable and she does just that with her personification of Gia Carangi, the Philly waif who blitzkrieged her way to the top of the modelling world. The film handles its subject competently. We start with typical tv drama material, dysfunction at home, a selfish mother blinded to her daughter's needs, a workholic father and a chance entry into the cruel world of beauty for sale. Through it all, Jolie's Gia is proof of an ageless cliche, that beauty comes from within. 'It' is that special something that stuptifies the beholder. And with every second of her performance, Jolie bombards us with her mysterious electrons, so that one begins to wonder what the 'Angelina' film will be like. Who on earth could play her? In the hands of a lesser mortal than Angelina, 'Gia' would have been nothing more than a solid HBO drama. That said though, the scenes are well crafted, especially with the spliced-in interviews of friends and family, all giving their two cents worth on what went wrong with perfection. Handed the World on a platter, Gia stuffed herself to the gills. To fill a void left by.......well, we are given hints by Mercedes Ruehl's compelling performance as Gia's self-absorbed mamma, who was never there for her daughter until it was too late. Gia's pyrotechnic disintegration into drugs is stalled by her loving partner who tries to hold onto a falling star and almost gets burned up in the process. Elizabeth Mitchell gives the second-best performance of the film as the 'square' little make-up artist whose world is forever changed by one Miss Carangi. The other performances are also well-done.....like Dunaway's Wilhelmina Cooper and the wonderfully wise Italian photographer who saw Gia for the little fallen angel she was...but don't expect depth here. Everything moves quick and with polish.....comme lá mode....the fashion shoots are great...especially the 'Geisha on a Harley' one. The choice of music was also tight. Bowie is always the one for subtle sorrows, but the choice of Billy Idols' 'Dancing With Yourself' as a background metaphor to Gia's stunning, but ultimately empty life, was all that and a bag of chips. But let me speak no further, for as Dunaway's Cooper aptly says, 'You don't really need to speak, this business isn't about speaking.' So go and treat your eyes to a feast and soon enough you find yourself wearing out your rewind button. While the film might not last the test of time, Jolie's performance certainly will.

Review: Incredible movie. I cried throughout the whole thing and for hours after. I can definitly relate to her struggles and how she delt with things. The way Angelina (who was INCREDIBLE!) portrayed the feelings of Gia was fantastic. I recomend this to anyone.

Review: this movie is heart-wrenching. angelina jolie becames Gia, her performance is so real. and elizabeth mitchell (one who played Gia's blonde lover, Linda) is so sexy and a sensitive actress. both women have such great chemistry and perform so well together. also, the movie exposes the dark side of the fashion world. behind the glamour and beauty of the industry, there is so much selfishness, greed and cruelty. the movie made me cry. but mainly, this movie is really about angelina jolie and elizabeth mitchell (who is unbelievably gorgeous)

Summary: Emotional, well acted film.
Review: This film effectivly shows how Gia started out happy with her life and everything even her low payed job and took the route accidentley of becoming a supermodel, while this film might seem overly pretentious if you havent seen it, it is a very good film but one you can get bored off if you have seen it a number of times. Angelina Jolie plays Gia and acts very well in the way her relationships prosper and fail with women and with men. There is also the effect she has on people in this film which is always there, the outline of the film is commentry on this attractive young girl who couldnt change despair (drug addiction) it's a film that really portrays life for alot of people and i think it does it well, i would recommened this to anyone but i can imagine not everybody finding this a likable film.

Summary: Good, but could be better
Review: I was immediately impressed with Angelina Jolie's natural acting in this role. She has a powerful force in this movie, you believe she could have Gia's feelings. Though, Gia's mother in real life was livid when she saw this movie. I have visited her websites, specifically "Simply Gia", which is a well-known and respected site for any Gia fan. That aside, the DVD does not offer any artifacts, photos, or interviews of the real Gia herself. That is something they would have benefitted from for a movie about Gia's life. The cast and director are superb as a whole and the DVD offers a photo gallery of Angelina Jolie as Gia as a "bonus".
I would reccommend this movie because it has a definiate biographical quality that Gia herself did not live to tell.

Summary: Such a great movie
Review: Angelina Joile does a fantastic job on this movie and portrays the character very well. Its almost like you know her. This movie was emotional, as well as educational. It shows how drugs can screw up your life so much, when she had such a promising career and life ahead of her. I think it would be a really good movie for a recovered drug addict to watch. I absolutly loved it and i would reccomend it to almost anyone.

Summary: Great movie for Angelina and Gia fans alike!
Review: Angelina is by far my absolute favorite actress! But that aside this movie is great. It gives a wonderful and revealing look at Gia Carangi and is probably Angelina's best work. I would recommend this to anyone whether they are a fan or not. It is all around a well made movie and such a tremendous view!

Review: A biopic of Gia--a famous fashion model whose rise to stardom ended abruptly due to her own carelessness. Angelina Jolie (and her piping hot body) stars as Gia. A sad story indeed.

Summary: Strong performances, tragic story
Review: This tale of the fashion industry, and how it uses, abuses, and discards its participants, features strong performances. First, Angelina Jolie, as the brassy, sassy, and ultimately pitiful figure of Gia, as well as Mercedes Ruehl, as her mother, and others, make this a tragic tale of a girl, who makes it big; then self-destructs, facing what was then the largely unknown disease which was, and still is, Aids. Not for everyone but a good movie. There is an unrated version; which I'm not sure what more could be added, as this "R" rated one features quite a bit of controversial material (Nudity, Lesbianism, Drug Use). Not a upbeat movie but a moral fable for modern times.

But, I promise: you will never forget Gia. Angelina Jolie solidly acts: playing the title character Gia. Jolie's portrayal is dazzling -- an untamed realism carries her performance. "Gia" the movie is powerful, absorbing, and highly provocative. "Gia" is a very poignant biography: illustrating what happens to a young model, (turned superstar), whose seemingly celebrated life is, in reality, merely isolated & forsaken. The privation is heightened, as Gia's life is erroneously perceived by others to be satisfying, trendy, and beautifully breathtaking. Individuals, neglect, use & devour Gia. What does it profit a person, to gain the whole world only to forfeit their life?
