Summary: A Good Cry and a Real Opportunity to "meet" HIV and AIDS
Review: HIV and AIDs are not good. And this movie tells you why in what was probably one of the best love stories of the new "Hollywood gay film" - it features an all-star cast full of familiar faces for Boomers and early Gen X-ers including Margaret Cho and Olivia Newton-John, and it has a beautiful love story between a man dying of Aids (ROBERTS) and his ex-lover who freaked under the pressure of HIV (HARRISON). A Shame that this film is regarded mainly as a "gay film" because more people -- any kind of people -- should see it.

Review: I saw IT'S MY PARTY because (a) I'm gay - aren't we supposed to support these types of films?, (b) Everybody said "it's so moving! I balled my eyes out!".I was, frankly, shocked by this movie. It contributed to my complete cynicism about "gay" films (JEFFREY was another gay film that everbody said "you've GOT to see it!" ... but JEFFREY is another story, another review...). I feel bad giving IT'S MY PARTY a negative review, because I know it is a very personal project, and I know that at its heart a lot of real-life pain made Randal Kleiser film this story. However, that doesn't mean IT'S MY PARTY is a good film. And it doesn't mean that because I'm gay I have to like it. The biggest problem I had with the film is that the characters seem more interested in the party than the situation that brought them there. The drug use in this film is presented as normal and acceptable. And, IMHO, the film is about how friends DON'T deal with AIDS. I was sad after watching this movie. Drugs, sleeping around, fabulous parties, gallows humor. Jeez, is this the gay lifestyle? Is this funny?? Is it me, or is Nick (played by Eric Roberts) a little nuts? Maybe his friends, instead of attending this CRAZY party, should say "Nick, you're a little wacko, dude." But no, they'd rather drink his alcohol and eat his food -- and cry a bit. After all, Nick is so fabulous, he'll be missed, right? Until the next party, that is. I just don't understand why people find this sad? What does this say about people who like to watch crazy gay people die after throwing themselves indulgent parties? WHY are people crying over this movie??? Oh, this movie makes me so mad. Remember, I am gay here. Why do gay-themed films like this get made?

Summary: A Beautiful Film!!!
Review: "It's My Party" is one of those rare films that entertains, touches your heart, and makes you think all at the same time. This film is about young man living with AIDS who decides to throw a party with all of his friends after he discovers that his health is starting to fade. The interactions between the characters range from humorous to painful with each actor giving his all to portray the characters in a realistic light. In many cases, the characters make peace with each other which will definitely leave you reaching for the Kleenex box. I would highly recommend this film! It is not only a great piece of film, but it also makes you think not only about how fragile life is, but that we should all live life to the fullest and make ourselves happy - a important theory indeed.

Summary: LAUGH, CRY and Find Compassion for your fellow man...
Review: Laugh, Cry and more. Big name stars in a wonderful tear-jerker movie. Now that I've seen it, just watching the opening scenes (with the introductions/directors/producers) makes me want to start crying from the beginning! TRUST ME: You do NOT want to miss out on seeing this movie. Whether you choose to buy it now or rent it from you local video store, this one is a MUST-SEE for Me! - Chuck

Summary: ...and I'll snore if I want too.
Review: Horrid cheapo drama that's full of irritants. Leads Eric Roberts and Gregory Harrison act as though they've never met each other despite being meant to be lovers. Everyone else over-acts madly in a vain attempt to be noticed. All the humour falls flat and the sheer 'worthiness' of the whole thing makes you heave. Director Randal Kleiser shows how far he's sunk since 'Grease', though he does manage to attract Olivia Newton-John to this project. Olivia plays a woman struggling with a bad marriage and a gay son. She gets a bit weepy at times and wears a tweedy jacket. She's a dear friend of Eric Roberts' character, supposedly, but just tends to hang around being a bit wet. Newton-John gets her own back on Kleiser by penning the movie's closing song, the insane 'Don't Cut Me Down'. An ode to trees everywhere (No, I'm not kidding. It really is!), perhaps it was her way of expressing her opinion on her cast mates, too. 'It's My Party' is a glum, charmless drama that doesn't deserve a special DVD edition. Better the movie be stuck in a bottle and thrown out to sea instead.

Review: I love this movie and have been waiting FOREVAH 4 it to come out on dvd. It is a sad tear jerker but it is very real and has some good humor. Margaret Cho is great! Eric Robert is great. All the characters are perfect and this is one of my favorite movies. Everyone will like this very moving drama of a man that has to say goodbye to alot of really good friends and family. I don't know what else to say except unless you are a robot you most probably will be very touched by this movie and will love it as much as I did. Check it out and see 4 yourself.

Summary: A gift of love, a celebration of life
Review: Nick Stark (ERIC ROBERTS) is a Los Angeles architect graced with vitality, good looks, loyal friends, a thriving career, a down-to-earth attitude, and an irreverent sense of humor. Lately, however, Nick's vision and memory have been short-circuiting, and his headaches won't go away. Although he looks healthy, he has been fending off AIDS related illnesses for years. And now, just before Christmas, his doctor tells him that untreatable brain lesions (progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy) will decimate all his faculties within days. He might die quickly, or linger in a vegetative coma, never to recover. Nick decided long ago that he would never linger; his friend Tony (PAUL REGINA), a former health professional, will help him die with dignity. But Nick, who has always known how to live, intends to savor his remaining time by gathering everyone he loves for a two-day farewell party. Though devastated by the cruelty of the situation, Nick's mother Amalia (LEE GRANT) helps host the party. Family and friends, including his sister Daphne (MARLEE MATLIN) converge from around the country in a state of shock. Nick's healthy appearance and rowdy humor make the news even harder to believe. The arrival of film director Brandon Theis (GREGORY HARRISON), once the love of Nick's life, is another kind of shock. Summary: An honest and wonderful view of a piece of life
Review: This is a nice and smooth depiction of gay life. With the highs and lows of relationships. Gay life is not easy or perfect and this film allows one to get a glimps of a portion of it.
The Director had a vision and layed it out on screen masterfully. The cast could have not been picked any better and the music was blended and fit the film very well.
For anyone that is in a relationship and an illness has taken its toll. Be strong and be there for each other. No one wants to die alone. This movie show that no one has too.

Review: If you have ever known anyone with AIDS or HIV, you HAVE to watch this movie. The cast acts so well and the movie is done very tastefully. It tugs on your heartstrings and will leave you feeling free, liberated, sad and a little angry at what this disease does to people. Plus, just the bonds of friendship are enough to make this movie a classic movie among Steel Magnolia type movie fans! I just keep hoping they release it on DVD!
