Summary: Exaggerated and lacking...
Review: Here's one that will NOT be joining the ranks in my personal library of lesbian/gay films, which includes Desert Hearts, High Art, When Night is Falling, Bound, The Incredibly True Adventure..., Forbidden Love, The Crying Game to name a few. "It's in the Water" is rife with stereotypes, mostly with a tongue-in-cheek approach. Yet I found myself falling victim to my own stereotypes, because I never for one moment honestly believed the female leads in earnest. The men portrayed in the movie, even in their exaggerated-ness, were much truer to their identities. I'm sorry, but the one female lead (don't know her name) looks like Kathie Lee Gifford's twin. I know! lesbians can be glamorous, too, but I just couldn't buy into this one!

Summary: Feel Good Fun...
Review: I decided to purchase this DVD after having read some of the reviews regarding this title. In all honesty, I was prepared to be disappointed, but It's In The Water is the most pleasantly surprising film that I have watched in a very long time. Despite the rather absurd premise regarding the hazards of the town's drinking water, the writing is funny and clever in the way it illustrates the narrow-minded atmosphere of a small Texas town. The acting is somewhat forced and at times falls flat, but the characters are well developed, albeit more than a little stereotypical. The key to enjoying this film is to recognize it for what it truly is: a satire that pokes fun at heterosexual perceptions regarding gays and lesbians but also at the way gays and lesbians see themselves. Don't take it too seriously. You'll only spoil the fun.

Summary: FINALLY A HONEST MOVIE!
Review: This movie is not afraid to attack all stereotypes about homosexuals, neither to attck the religious right and the bigotry of society. The story is simple yet effective. You'll love the characters and their genuine interpretations. There is a bit of sadness but unlike Hollywood's major hits it does not try to grab the whole story and make you cry your eyes out. This is just a critic to people's ignorance, and does that in an extremely funny way. If you are tired of Hollywood's blockbusters that give much in terms of special effects but have little story to tell this is the right movie for you. If you have a gay video library this movie deserves one of the top places, and even if you don't have one this is still a great movie to own and will make you laugh at society, religion, and maybe even a bit at yourself... :-)

Summary: The Emperor Has No Clothes!
Review: I've read only fair to great reviews on this movie. Don't be deceived! This movie doesn't even qualify as being fair. Apparently in our desire to be represented in any way other than stereotypes on the screen, gay people are willing to accept horrible writing, story cliches and bad acting as the norm. Don't! There are more positive portrayls out there.

This movie was just plain awful. It was predictable, plodding and was so cheesy it smelled like old Velveeta. It may have gotten better in the last 30 minutes -- doubtful though -- because it was so bad I shut it off.

If you are looking for a gay positive movie, there are SO many more out there. Don't waste your time on this.

I normally don't write reviews, but after seeing everyone praise a movie that is so CLEARLY mediocre, I had to do something.

Summary: it certainly was an experience
Review: This movie was fantastic for those who are already out and proud. It was a funny plot and most of the lines had me in stitches. Yeah the acting is a tiny bit forced, but only to a degree that is charming. You get a good idea of how hard it is to come out and how good it feels to fall in love. Definitely a feel good movie .

Summary: It's In the Water
Review: Paula's opening reveiw of the film was harsh and laced with a snobish attitude toward Queer culture and this film. God forbid if a film entertains while playing with stereotypes that are so inherent in Southern culture. "It's in the Water" is wildly funny and a pleasure to watch! It's a noble piece of work, that belongs in any top collection of independent cinema.

Summary: absolutely wonderful!
Review: I would recomend this film to anyone. This is the first film that I could relate to in my own life. The only problem I had was that the love scene was to short for my taste but it was also very romantic.. I hope who ever see's this will go and rent the movie,it's fantastic!

Summary: What a fun film!
Review: I really enjoyed watching this film. The production quality isn't bad, the acting decent, and it actually had a plot. Many gay and lesbian films seem to be lacking all three! I enjoyed the storyline of how coming out in a small town effects your life and the people around you. Also how misinformation can lead to stupid actions and the way it takes a shot at the ex-gay movement. I would recommend seeing this movie with some friends and enjoying the evening.

Summary: I hated it!
Review: Quite honestly....this is the worst gay & lesbian themed-movied I have ever seen. The acting was awful, the characters were ridiculous, and the script was lacking anything desirable. I found nothing humorous about this movie. It only sparked my interest because I'm in Texas and the thought of a gay movie filmed in Texas shocked me. I wouldn't waste any money or time watching this film.
