Summary: Excellent
Review: I've seen a couple of gay movies, but this one was the best, very realistic, great actors. Very deserving of all the good reviews.

Summary: What a great film
Review: What a great film. I had not heard anything about this movie and viewed it on the off chance that it might be ok. I was pleasantly surprised.
Has great characterisations (one or two maybe a bit cliched) an intelligent script, great acting, great country music and indigenous sound track, beautiful scenery and an ending that made me wish that there were places like Big Eden on our planet.

The thing I liked most about the film was its centre on a sense of community - I think it is incidental that the main characters are gay as the story could have worked just as well if they were straight - a community spirit that we all seem to have lost. The other great theme is that if we let others in to our lives, regardless of who we or they are, it can be such an enriching experience.

I can't number all of the great things I have gotten from this film, but must admit that I am on my own personal search for a place like Big Eden. One that values people and community and offers enrichment for everyone no matter who you are.

I thoroughly recommend this movie to everyone.

Summary: Big Hearted Big Eden
Review: This is the little film that could. This was such a sweet and touching movie. I smiled all night after watching it. It's a glimpse of life as it should be.

Summary: Cute, but not terribly exciting
Review: I'm going to start with the kicker: This movie kinda bored me.

Call me bitter, but I couldn't identify with *any* of the characters, which makes enjoying this kind of movie all that much more difficult.

Harry clearly has a wonderful life: successful artist in New York, doting straight girlfriend, loving grandfather (unfortunately, ill), and clear and strong social support from family and friends abound. Absolutely no negative energy surrounds this guy. He's out, and absolutely no one has a problem with it, even in a small, rural town (not your typical NYC-style anything-goes mentality). The worst problem he has to worry about is whether he should respond to the advances of a guy he had a crush on in high school who now has two kids.

Alas, what will Harry do? He clearly still retains some unresolved feelings for this high school guy... and he doesn't even know that this other guy holds a torch for him, to the point of cooking him and his grandfather wonderful meals every single day. What to do, what to do?....

Not to say I totally disliked this movie. It was kinda cute watching a big, strapping hunk act all coy and shy around his love interest. It was cute watching all the local old cowboys supporting him and urging him to talk to his man. But overall, it wasn't enough to overcome the pure schmaltz of this film.

Cute, sure. Entertaining, yes. Unrealistic, sure, even though I don't expect that all movies should be true to life. But the end result here is somewhat mediocre. Oh, and how predictable was the ending?

Summary: Fairy Tales Can Come True
Review: This movie is the best gay themed movie I have ever seen. I have watched it many times and gain something new each time. It shows that there is love in the most unlikely places, dreams can come true, and one day gay people will be able to live like this. This movie is a must have for any collection.

Summary: Quaint
Review: This is a quaint film, the stuff of Sunday afternoons in the Fall. The highly unlikely, almost laughable plot, is charming enough; however, I'm left feeling as though I've been exposed to a typical formulaic retinue.

What I liked about the film is the quality and integrity of the acting. It seemed of lofty quality for a film in this genre. Since there is such a limited selection, I felt it worth the purchase, despite the fact that the movie is basically of "Pajama Party" ilk.

The insightful narrative given in abrupt bursts by the NY Gallery owner is most refreshing, as are the "Dolly Levi" yenta's shinanigans. These actors' performances add the high-points in an otherwise dull flick.

Summary: sweet and charming
Review: This film struck me as a more sophisticated and realistic (and not AIDS-phobic) version of the film, Jeffrey. The magical quality that everyone is more than accepting of gay love is found in this film in a tiny town in Montana. There is a love triangle: Henry, home from NY to take care of his grandfather; Dean, the athletic, allegedly straight heartthrob that Henry has been swooning over for 10-20 years; and Pike, a painfully shy native-american who secretly loves Henry. What would make an interesting debate is Dean's motivation. On the surface it appears that Dean is gay and loves Henry, but is either unable to accept himself or unable to come out and risk losing custody of his two young children. The first possibility seems unlikely considering the completely loving atmosphere surrounding them. The second is perhaps more plausible, but is not something the movie explores at all. A very rare, almost unheard of act is one where a straight man loves his best friend so much that he tries to go through the motions of "being gay" for him, and the fact that he (Dean) can't be what Henry wants is, at least temporarily, heartbreaking. Although, perhaps this point is unclear, it's true that the human heart can be less than understandable as well. The portrayal of a man overcoming painful introversion to go after love is invigorating and breathtaking.

Summary: In a perfect world
Review: This is what any love story should be about, the people. This
story would have worked whether or not the main charactors were gay. I love the fact that this love story was just that, a love story. It was about people taking chances, being true to oneself, trust, letting go of the past, doing what you love and following your heart. This was funny, a little utopian, sad, and poignant.
