Rating: Summary: Not a gay drama...a human drama Review: "Big Eden" has the honor of being one of the few movies in recent days to actually bring me to tears. The storyline and acting seem so effortless that the legendary fourth-wall literally does seem to disappear and the viewer feels "present" to the drama as it unfolds. As I said, the writing and the acting are superb. What a remarkable ensemble the supporting-cast turns out to be! The directing is as well. Every now and then the movie over-reaches itself and loses something by trying to do or say too much, but those few moments don't dampen this otherwise wonderful film. Definitely a place I want to visit again and again. If only such a place truly existed, where friends could express their emotions and feelings fully and be accepted, and where shame is not taught to children, and where everyone helps everyone else to come to their "good place." Their own Big Eden.
Rating: Summary: Don't start packing just yet... Review: Cute idea, decent acting, but the storyline is pretty far out there. I'd definitely recommend it as a rental, but that's about where it would stop.
Rating: Summary: well done homosexual fantasy Review: Based on reviews, I purchsed this dvd and was I impressed. It is definitely a fantasy, but well done... The relationships give pause for thought and you can go to bed feeling good about yourself. What a shame this was not a major relase...
Rating: Summary: A Surprisingly Moving and Funny Film! Review: The only reason I saw this movie was to see Eric Schweig. Prior to seeing it, I had no idea it was a gay film. It took me by surprise how touching the love story is. No matter how straight you are, as long as you are not homophobic, you will laugh, sigh, and get frustrated along with Henry and Pike. I personally no longer saw two guys in love, but rather two people in love. They're so adorable! The community portrayed in the film is the ideal world where no one judges the other in his/her sexual orientation. Here, senior citizens, church going members, and macho cowboys all root for these two men to get together! On top of it, these two men are of different ethnic backgrounds (Caucasian and Native American). Can there possibly be a more tolerant and ideal society as this? It's truly a beautiful film. Recommended for gay/lesbian people (naturally), people who enjoy "chick-flicks", people who are stressed in the city and need a "time-out" by watching a relaxing and touching movie, Eric Schweig fans, etc.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Fantasy Review: I think this may be my fantasy. Being somewhere where everyone is accepted for who they are. Somewhere where those around you will do anything they can to make sure that you are happy. People who would do anything they could for you. The movie made me feel relaxed and at peace. Even if Big Eden is just a fantastical place, it is now a place that I can visit, if only in my mind.
Rating: Summary: LET THE STARS GET IN YOUR EYES Review: WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY TOM BEZUCHA. BIG EDEN IS A GEM OF A MOVIE. IT IS SIMPLE, DIRECTED WITH LITTLE ANGST BUT FILLED WITH GOOD WARM THOUGHTS AND WELL WORTH BUYING. MANY FILMS AND STORIES WITH A GAY PLOT LINE ARE EITHER SAPPILY TRAGIQUE OR EMBARASSINGLY CONDESCENDING. THIS FILM IS NEITHER. IT IS WOVEN OF NICE FUZZY TIGHT KNIT PLOT THAT KEEPS YOU GUESSING ...WHEN IS GOING TO TURN MAUDLIN AND TRASHY. IT NEVER DOES . YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRY TO GUESS WHAT THE AUTHOR IS TRYING TO SAY....HE SAYS IT. THIS IS A LOW BUDGET FILM BUT IT NEVER LOOKS THAT WAY...IT IS PURE QUALITY AND WELL WORTH BUYING. THERE ARE TWO DISCS. ONE IS THE MOVIE THAT CAN BE VIEWED WITH DIRECTORS COMMENTS AND A SECOND DISC WITH PRODUCTION NOTES. THE ACTING IS TOP GRADE AND THE PRODUCTION STAFF ARE NEAR GENIUS..... OH YES TOM BEZUCHA IS INTELLIGENT AND CUTE AS A BUTTON:)
Rating: Summary: One of the all time great love stories Review: If you are a movie lover,by all means put this one on your short list of films to own. Trust me, you will want to watch it again and again. Why? Well, how about great acting, inspired writing, deft direction, and absolutely gorgeous scenery. Ayre Gross and Eric Schweig make one of the sweetest couples to ever appear on screen. Both characters are complex, yet recognizable. You do literally FEEL these men, their pain, and ultimately their joy. And,believe me, getting to that joy is a delightful journey. If there was any justice in Hollywood, both of these actors would be working CONSTANTLY. There are also fine and sometimes surprising supporting performances from veterans like Louise Fletcher, Nan Martin and George Coe. We can't forget Veanne Cox, O'Neal Compton, Tim DeKay, and all the guys at the store(watch these little gems closely). Bravo to Thomas Bezucha for bring us this diamond of a film. I can't wait to see more of his stuff. Oh, and Thomas, thank you for that final kiss. Boy, I'm a sucker for high romance. To the DVD buyers out there. The extras here are really interesting. Especially the cast interviews and the "Making Of" segments. So, run, don't walk, to purchase this movie. You won't be sorry. I'm moving to Big Eden ASAP!!
Rating: Summary: Big Eden is a real Gem!!! Review: I loved this movie. The little town and its people where the film takes place do not exist anywhere. But, it is great to think that it might. Arye Gross is excellent as the main character.
Rating: Summary: Great Date Movie Review: I am certain that activists and movie critics will hate the fact that there is no homophobia in this movie to complain about but welcom to the gay version of "My big fat Greek wedding" except of course for the wedding. Arye Gross plays a sucessful artist "would it kill filmakers to once in a while give a character a normal profession?" in New York who gets the sad news that his grandfather is ill back in Montanna. he heads home and once there finds out that his old high school crush is now divorced and living in the same town. In addition to a colorful cast of townfold there is a second plotline about a local man who quietly begins to court the main character. However it is done so subtly that the advances are completely missed. the movie is a treat to watch with likable, realistic looking people and it was a nice surprise to see a gay movie filmed in an area such as Montanna. Well recomended.
Rating: Summary: A "MUST-SEE" Review: Once again, Amazon.com hasn't disappointed me. This movie kept coming up at the top of my recommendations, and having seen it, I now know why. I found this movie at my local book/video store and grabbed it based on the recommendation [sorry, Amazon, I didn't buy it here]. This is one of those sweet and wonderful romantic comedies that just happen to involve a gay guy instead of Meg Ryan. The town of Big Eden is fictional in a no-way-this-town-exists type of way, but you walk away from this movie wishing and hoping that someday it will. It's a place and an attitude that involves your heart instead of your sexual orientation. Watch this movie. It doesn't matter if you're straight or gay - it speaks to everyone.
