Summary: Hilarious, but too many stereotypes!
Review: ...I laugh and laugh every time I watch this and hear Nathan Lane shreik! This really is a very, very funny movie, and is watchable over and over again. Though, I have never seen the Original French version, which they have the Original and two sequels. I would really think to see those too. I did feel this movie played on too many gay stereotypes, but maybe that is what made the movie. I don't know. I didn't like it though. I thought The son was very unsupportive to Albert until the end of the movie. It almost seemed like he really hated him. That aside, this movie is much funny, and can and will live on!

Summary: The Original Is Best
Review: I enjoyed the performances of Robin Williams (as always) and Hank Azaria, but this version pales in comparison with the original. Michel Serrault will always be the perfect Zaza for me. The original French version is a classic and I encourage you to view it as well for comparison.

Summary: Robin Williams & Nathan Lane Keep You Laughing
Review: The laugh rating soars in this hysterical farce with Robin Williams ("Awakenings", "Mrs Doubtfire"). Loosely based on the 70's classic "La Cage Au Folles", the film is enjoyable and funny. Featuring Nathan Lane ("At First Sight") as Robin Williams's frantic lover and also starring Dianne West. Like most Robin Williams movies, amidst the laughs lies an important message --- we are who we are regardless of what people think about us. Stand up and be yourself. The film says a lot about society in general. Have we really advanced that much in 20 years since "La Cage Aux Folles"? Favorite Scene: "How to Walk Like a Man". The music features some great disco anthems. Worth the purchase price and certainly worth a rental!

Summary: Love the lifestyle, hated the movie
Review: This politically correct movie is painful to watch because it's so much on it's target. I laughed until I cried from all the badly done jokes. Williams does such a splendid job in this picture that I started to wonder about him. Other actors didn't perform as well as Williams or the Birdcage. This movie is good to watch when you listen to the Village People.

Summary: GET AWAY FROM THIS FAKE!
Review: "The Birdcage" is an inordinately lame remake of one of the great French comedies of all time, "La Cage Aux Folles". Amazon sells "La Cage Aux Folles" with English subtitles, and even if you don't like subtitles, do yourself the favor of hearing the great Michel Serrault emote his way through the role of Zaza. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams are both outstanding American actors, but they are not Serrault and Ugo Tognazzi, and what's more, here they've been put into a 1990s Politically Correct vehicle that tones them down WAY too much. Gene Hackman is one of the greatest actors in American filmmaking, but he pales beside his French counterpart in the role of the blustering father finding his daughter marrying the son of a gay nightclub owner. And don't EVEN get me started on the role of Jacob, the houseboy. The French actor was hilarious. The poor American who was forced to adapt the role in PC America of the 1990s was most certainly (I repeat -- MOST certainly) not. Even if you don't like European films and have never seen any reason to get excited about Ingmar Bergmann, in this case do yourself a big favor and get "La Cage Aux Folles". There's a reason why it was made into a musical on Broadway and spawned two (inferior) sequels in France, but "The Birdcage" ain't it. No way, no how, ne pas.

Summary: Very Good
Review: This film has a lot of merits, including fine performances by the cast, and a very entertaining plot. It is overall quite captivating, features memorable characters, and is very funny. Definitely worth seeing. The original French version is excellent, and this version, while a little different, is fresher and is just as good.

Review: I enjoyed the interaction between Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. The location added to my enjoyment of the film. Any time I want to be entertained I will bring this one home.

Summary: Read the other 1 star reviews--they sum it up perfectly
Review: Very dull and over-rated movie. Nathan Lane's character is annoying, overdone and a stereotype--not in the least bit funny. Actually, very little in this movie was sincerely funny.

Summary: Well.....
Review: I personaly thought this movie was pretty dumb. Granted, I was only 7 when I saw it, but I really didn't like this movie at all, The only funny part was with the naked Greek boys on the soup bowls. Otherwise, it was a dumb, boring movie. I love Robin Williams, and love his work, but this was his worst film. I'm glad he moved on to bigger and better things.
