Review: Robin Williams is one of my favorite comedians, but this movie was somewhat disappointing for me, even though there are a number of hilarious scenes in it. The gay Guatemalan house"maid" is absolutely hilarious and the fact that ultra right wing colleague of moral majority politician Gene Hackman died while visiting an under age, black prostitute made me howl with laughter.

Unfortunately, Robin Williams is not able to play a convincing homosexual man with a long-standing relationship. I have never seen a homosexual couple where there was so much distance between the men.

Review: whoever thought watching a movie could be so much fun? Well If you need to cry your eyes out with laughter then you MUST buy this movie!!! It is and always will be my favorite, Nathan lane is SO AMAZING I can't even explain how perfect he is for this part, and robin williams is outstanding! Every single thing about this movie is terrific, don't let the stero types turn you off, so do yourself a favor and BUY THIS MOVIE!!!!

Review: Robin Williams, Gene Hackman.. How could they do anything less than the best in a movie. They captured the experience of South Beach FL as well as the feelings of many gays and straights. Nathan Lane is just outstanding as well.

Summary: One of the best comedies of the 90's!
Review: There are comedies out there that are fun to watch every now and then, and we still get a chuckle from them. But The Birdcage is on of those rare films that no matter how many times I see it, I still laugh like crazy. Mike Nichols made a really good film here, with Robin Williams as a gay nightclub owner and his partner Nathan Lane as the club's transvestite star. Then there is the butler, Adagar Spartacus, who keeps falling down because he is not used to wearing shoes. He steals the show, even from Williams.

William's son comes home from school, and tells his father that he is getting married to a girl(played by a pre-"Ally McBeal" Callista Flockheart). She is going to bring her parents with her to meet his, but there is a catch. Her father is an ultra-conservative politician(Gene Hackman, who is also terrific here). So it is up to Williams to make sure he can pass as a straight man, and set up the apartment in a "non-gay" way, and get rid of Nathan Lane's character for the duration of the visit. Of course, things fall apart, and mishaps are abound here culminating in one of the most funny scenes I have ever seen in my life.(For those of you who have seen the movie, you know the very funny ending I'm talking about involving Gene Hackman) Nathan Lane is also great as a very feminine man, you can hardly believe when he is dressed up in drag talking that he is man. Of course, he is very sensitive, and he throws temper tantrums, gets upset over broken toast, and is a joy to watch.

What I also liked about the film is it teaches tolerance and understanding, amd that being yourself is nothing to be ashamed of, no matter who you are. This film accomplishes many things: making a film audiences will love everywhere, and teaching respect and understanding at the same time.

Review: I first remember seeing this movie in the theater and being truly entertained. Now, I like to watch it from time to time and can't help but continue to laugh hysterically. The story takes place on Miami's South Beach at a club. Robin Williams plays a gay nightclub owner who is flamboyant and who is forced to try to act like a man when his son's fiancee and her family come to visit. Nathan Lane is William's female- acting counterpart and his gestures, voice and mannerisms will keep you laughing. Also, Hank Azaria was hysterical as the houseboy Agador Sparticus who is in the middle of the entire affair. This is not the most politically correct movie, but is definately guaranteed to make you laugh. So, if you are in the mood to be entertained without needing to think too much this is the movie for you. And it is also easy to watch over and over again as you notice more and more little nuances each time.

Review: This movie is hilarious! Here, you have a scandal, a gay club, a narrow-minded conservative Republican who thinks Bob Dole is too liberal and "dark," a perfectly respectable engaged couple,and a big wedding wrapped in one funny movie. I would recommend it to friends to watch that movie. It's funny!

Summary: Politically Incorrect Movie of the Decade! (Fab-u-lous)
Review: You will laugh until your sides hurt and you will rewind scenes two or three times ! This film is loaded with catchy phrases and scenes that keep popping into your thoughts and make you giggle, despite your attempts to think of something-else. You will never forget the Butler / House Boy....ever--"Agadore Spartacus" steals scene after scene, as (Robin Williams) struggles to maintain his sanity and composure, while fending-off Emotional Outbursts and Episodes of Self/Relationship Doubt from his transvestite Partner, (Nathan Lane). The plot revolves around "their" son getting married and not being able to deal with certain "issues," concerning his "parents." He is marrying (Alley McBeal), whose parents are Right-Wing Politicians.... thus, the "Issues."

I have seen "The Birdcage" many, many times & I know children love the movie (they will watch it repeatedly). Couples will find lines from the film invading their daily conversations. When I watch it, with my girlfriend, we have weeks of fun from one viewing! This is just one of those fun-filled, hilarious films, that even homophobic men can't resist. You will laugh, Nathan Lane will cry....and you will do poor imitations of "Agadore Spartacus" for weeks afterward. Enjoy !
