Summary: RIVETING! A MASTERPIECE! A 100-STAR MOVIE!
Review: You have not lived truly until you have seen and EXPERIENCED "Total Eclipse." It is not the kind of movie you can watch again and again, but it's one you will remember forever. Granted, there are some scenes that are difficult to watch (i.e., the scene where David Thewlis is examined to prove he committed sodomy), but there is enough beauty to this film to justify the five stars. To see the absinthe-inspired relationship between the two poets is most intriguing. A fascinating film. After seeing it, I had to go out and get a book of poetry by Arthur Rimbaud (DiCaprio's character). Amazing stuff. In short, see this movie and then buy Rimbaud's work to fully flesh out this fascinating individual. You will not regret it.

Summary: It is unforgettable!!
Review: A very powerful and poingnant film which will linger in your heart long after watching it. A love story between two poets which is unruly, sometimes even unbearable, yet exquisit and imbued with soulful passion. I watched the film several years ago but still remember its strong impact to my heart! It is unforgettable & it's the best DiCaprio's film which I have even seen.

Summary: Total Classic
Review: The best Leonardo Dicaprio performance, period. This epic drama is what film-making is all about. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

Summary: Extraordinary movie
Review: This is the most extraordinary and powerful movie I have seen so far, not afraid to use these strong phrases. For several years after I watched it, it still captivates and the strong impression doesn't weaken, unlike with other your "typical" blockbuster movies. The best role DiCaprio has played.

Summary: Wow
Review: Leonardo diCaprio did a good job in this movie. He was almost believeable. The movie got a bit weird at times overall it is a good movie to have in your archive. The movie explored the "daddy" thing and the I'm gay but I still love my wife syndrome that some of us still like. Anyway it is a good movie and it attest to what you can become when you are damaged.

Summary: A bit dark, A tad strange but, truely brilliant!!!!!!!!
Review: The movie Total Eclipse starring Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most briliant i've ever laid eyes upon!!!!
It's a little darker than usual for him but, that just shows off his versitality! He's not just a Romeo anymore!!!!!!!!!
He is one of the best actors i've ever seen in any movie at any age!
The movie itself is quite the masterpeice! It has love, hate, comedy, passion, and realism. True human emotions in a story of a real human being who was quite the brilliant poet and lover of life!

Born with a special gift he used only for a short while but, nevertheless immortalized him in literature!
I commend Leonardo for his performance in this film! Brilliant acting with a bit of an in your face sence to it! Not many actors could pull off a roll such as this with as much class as he did!
Stepping out from a conventional type cast roll is a major acheivement for any actor and he did it superbly!!!!!!
The relationship between these two poets is somewhat hard for me to grasp as they were like night and day but, as they say "opposites attract".
I am in no way condoning homosexuality or bi- sexuality but, then again i'm in no position to condem it either? It's part of the story and therefore part of the films charm!
I'd recommend this film to anyone with enthusiasm and hope you all appriciate it's truth as much as i do!
If you are a lover of the strange or poetry, arts and artists then you should enjoy this film emmensily! If not ... then you'll enjoy watcing the change in Leonardo's character. If none of the above then oh well, i tried!
Only one last thing to add.....
BRAVO LEO!!!!!! JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!1

Summary: Finding Eternity
Review: Holland's Total Eclipse is one of those movies that has fallen victim to critical badmouthing, but it is not to be overlooked. DiCaprio finds himself in his performance of a lifetime as the young, volatile, intelligent French poet, Arthur Rimbaud. Thewlis also gives a remarkable performance as Verlaine, the object of Rimbaud's manipulation. They share poetry and a bed, and while the film has been criticized for its sexual presentation, it is a necessary part of the intriguing story Holland tells. In truth, Rimbaud's life is as captivating as his poetry. DiCaprio pushed the envelope in this film and should be commended. It is an essential piece for fans of Queer cinema, but it should be viewed by all lovers of France, of poetry, of thinking, and of the delicate balance of human action and emotion.

Summary: Not your usual DiCaprio Flick
Review: He doesn't die. He's not all sappy, He actually acts. I never thought he had it in him. As you can probably tell, but I'm not much of a Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but in this movie, he demonstrates that there is a reason he became an actor and it wasn't from looks and for his ability to die well.

This movie is based on the true story of the 19th century French poets, Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud. It is the story of a volatile romantic triangle of the two poets and and Paul Verlaine's wife, set in early period era. The movie illustrates the cruelty of genius and the constant creative forces that exist within an artist.

Definately a movie to see and add to your collection.

Summary: 'ABSENTE MAKES THE HEART GLOW FONDER....'
Review: OUI!

That sad tale of 'forbidden love' enhanced by spiritual visitations.....well, 'Bravo' to DiCaprio and Thewlis [who is quite a powerful actor - don't underrate this theapian!] for daring to do this work in somewhat 'graphic' mode - rivals some of the Genet visitations, and in some ways quite similar, but naturally earlier.

I suppose that all Great poets must suffer! Something along those lines, but this is an interesting slant.

Bold choices by the always innovative Annieszka Holland.

See this one with just a tiny glass of the 'green fairy' ['Absente'] on the cocktail table! [The 'Moulin Rouge' was never this hot!]

and for more relish? Thewlis in "Naked"!

Summary: repugnant as a horrendous car accident involving little kids
Review: "total eclipse" is possibly the worst film i have ever seen to have such big name pop actors in it, and it is a wonder that more people have not called lil' old leo and his partner in cinematic crime, david thewlis, on their treacherous and shameful roles in this atrocious waste of celluloid. i become interested in the life and work of arthur rimbaud in my early teens, and i had always thought to myself any number of times that a movie made the right way about his life would be an instant masterpiece, given the sheer fascination and passionate rebelliousness of it. i also remember the inner dread and fear i felt about the possibility of it falling into the wrong hands and turning into a (...), as happened with oliver stone's feat of unsurpassed failure, "the doors". not only were my worst fears realized and then some, but leonardo dicaprio played rimbaud. leonardo dicaprio played rimbaud. leonardo dicaprio played rimbaud. only by repeating it a few times could i convey the horror and unnaturalness of it. maybe morrison and rimbaud would have died even younger than they did if they somehow leapt into the future and saw the movies that were going to made about them--by suicide.
