Summary: Kathy is GREAT, but if you're a beginner don't start here...
Review: I love Kathy Smith, but I remember trying to do this workout a few years ago (I was 17, not in that bad of shape & not overweight) and it was very hard. My mom, who was trying to lose weight, did this workout a few times, and it was usually too much for her, too. Like someone said before, if you can do the 70 minutes, it's great, so that's why I gave it 5 stars. But if you're just starting out, please choose something like "Functionally Fit: Peak Fat Burning" by Kathy Smith. I'm afraid "Weight Loss Workout" will discourage you! It's one you need to work your way up to.

Summary: Simply her best low-impact, beginners to intermediate workout!
Review: I've been working out to this tape for almost 10 years and it hasn't gotten boring yet! The low impact aerobics combined with muscle-building moves and an excellent stretching section make this a great all-round workout.(Hint: make your moves 'bigger' for a harder workout.)

Summary: This is the most effective exercise video I have seen.
Review: I have been exercising to videos since the first 20 Minute Workout tapes became popular. I bought and used Smith's first videos, and I haven't wasted money on anyone else's since. This is the best of the Smith videos and the best I have seen for developing upper body strength and losing weight with a "just right" combination of weight training and aerobics. If you are an at-home exerciser and can work out for approximately 70 minutes, this is your best bet. I will be ordering my second copy soon. The first is worn out, and I don't intend to change my routine (although I wouldn't mind another Smith video along the same lines as far as the work out, but with updated costumes, hairdos, and music).

Summary: Sweat into the 90s
Review: I hesitated when I bought this dvd, because it did not get very good ratings. However, I LOVE IT!!!! I am a huge Kathy Smith fan and I would have to say it is one of my favorites. Before this dvd, I would do her cardio kickboxing 4 times a week. I think that this dvd is as good of a work out as her cardio kickboxing, which is saying a lot. I agree with the other reviewers that it is very out dated, but I think that makes it fun and it's still a hard work out. If you like Kathy Smith and were wondering what happened to go ol' aerobics; this is the dvd for you.

Summary: decent workout if you can get past the cheesiness
Review: I've worked out with Kathy Smith's step videos, and although cheesy as heck ("AH HAA!" -- you know what I mean), it's a good work out. I decided to buy another Kathy Smith work out since I've been satisfied with my results from her step video and selected the "Weight Loss Workout", mostly because I thought the picture of her on the cover looked slightly newer (maybe it would be less cheesy).

No way! I popped this baby in and I was cracking up too hard to even work out! It has early 90s written all over it. Each segment is set in a difference scene. My favorite of course is the "street" scene with a brick wall that has "Kathy was here" spray painted graffiti-style. Then there are the island and 1950s scenes. They tried to use innovative camera angles that just end up annoying me. Although I enjoy Kathy's work outs, I just find it hard to take this video seriously. In this particular video, the moves seem very dancey and I feel like I'm trying out for a MC Hammer video or an "In Living Color" fly girl.

I DO, however, highly recommend Kathy's "Step Workout." It's on a plain set that doesn't look so dated. The work out is a gradual build up. You know, the kind where in the beginning you're thinking "okaaayy... this isn't going to help me..." and by the end you're sweatin' and heavin'. The time flies, and there is weight training and toning at the end. AH HAA!

Summary: Not a bad workout, but not the best......
Review: I'm looking for a good cardio workout and unfortunately it's not an easy task. This is my first workout video from Kathy Smith. It's not a bad workout. The pace can be very fast, I couldn't keep up with how quickly she was going back and forth at one point. I guess you could qualify me as intermediate, but there were times where I had to stop and figure out what she was doing. It can be a little annoying when they edit shots of Kathy just smiling into the camera or the goofing off or the messups. The pause between segments is also a little confusing too as it just stops and you wait a good two-five seconds. I also was not a fan of the 50s workout, it seemed more silly than anything.

Having said all that, I did sweat with the first two aerobic segments. So while this wasn't one of my favorite workouts, I'm sure I'll use it now and again. Maybe once I do it more, I'll start to like it better. It's happened before. I could also do without the segment with the weights in the beginning as I'd rather do just all cardio.

So ultimately, if you're looking for a cardio workout, this just might fit the bill. But keep in mind that Kathy can be a little confusing at times, I would imagine especially so for a beginner. Plus she goes a little too fast. But you do work up a sweat.

Summary: kathy smith weight lose workout
Review: Don't buy this tape unless you like aerobics from the 80's. This tape has a new jacket, but is a old tape.

Summary: Please do not spending money purchasing this DVD
Review: I read the reviews about how cheesy the workout is and sadly did not listen. I could not believe how cheesy the movements are. And aerobic intructors do not use these movements today. It is definitely 80's everything. Don't be fooled into buying this dvd. If you are looking for a great workout please buy one of her newer dvd. Such as the timesaver one or two or rules of fat burning.

Summary: Sweat into the 90s
Review: Kathy Smith usually does outstanding videos, but this one is not. The warm-up was good, besides the fact that there was some editing glitches. The next section focused on upper body and you will need some weights to do this (3-5lb). This section was also OK. However, the four aerobic sections made me sweat but I thought were difficult to follow. The moves and arms were not easy to do and everything seemed disjointed. The moves just didn't flow together. These routines were a little outdated.
The leg sections were adequate, not the best I've seen from Kathy. You would be better off buying some other of her DVD's, although this will make you sweat.

Summary: Buy something else
Review: Just bought this last night and really had high hopes this morning when I was ready to workout. But the covers leads you to believe that this is an recent workout when it's not. I was rather dissappointed to see the big hair, Kathy flipping her hair, cheesy set ups, older music and outdated aerobic moves.

I do believe that it is a good workout if you can get past these drawbacks. I kept thinking to myself that hopefully the next segment would be more updated but that never happened. I was amazed at the fast pace of the workout though. The workout switches between one set that looks like a warehouse or a loft apartment and the other set is very bright and cheesy looking. After some sections, the DVD instructs you to take your pulse and it has a clock on the screen to time yourself. It also provides the proper heart rate for your age.

There is a great warm up in this DVD and it's the best that I have come across to date. It really warms you up and doesn't rush you through it. Then you do a weight warm up and then several aerobic routines, switching between the two sets. There is also a lunge section that I absolutely hate doing because it's so fast paced and it's hard to keep up with them. Every now and then they will show a Kathy blooper and then immediately it flashes back to the workout. There is also a 50's section and I now realize why I wasn't born in the 50's since I can't seem to get the moves down. In the end there is a standing leg section, standing legs section with weights and then cool down.

Overall, it gives you a great workout if you can get past the big hair and cheesy set up. I have now used this workout several times and am still learning the moves. I have lost 87 pounds and still have 17 more pounds to lose. I have done many workout routines and would concider myself to be able to handle high intensity workouts. But this workout gets my heart rate up and the sweat flowing.
