Summary: Challenging Workout
Review: I got exactly what I wanted from this video. It is a challenging workout with get instruction and levels of proficiency. The video is much more professionally made than other kickboxing videos I have seen . The strengthening exercise bonus is especially helpful.

Summary: For Beginners
Review: This is a great video for someone who is just beginnig kickboxing! It explains proper techniques so that you don't do it wrong. After a few times to review how to do the techniques, and know the drill of the workout, you can just throw yourself into it and enjoy the workout. It has made me more active, and now I really enjoy kickboxing and have gone on to more difficult tapes. But the techniques I learned in the video built the base of my skills which I still keep in my own workout drill.

Summary: Excellent Fat Burning workout
Review: I bought this video after reading some of the reviews here at Amazon. At first this video was very confusing and hard to keep up with. I have never done kickboxing before and never tried the "Tae Bo" tapes so I couldn't give a comparison to those. I am at an intermediate fitness level and love to workout but trying to learn the foot work and kicks on this tape was a little discouraging. Kathy Smith, however, does an excellent job of discribing and showing the correct form of each movement and it took no time at all and I was kicking my way through the tape. I suggest you watch this tape a few times before doing it if you are not coordinated and quick on your feet. Once you get the moves down, you will be in for one excellent fat burning workout!!

Summary: Fun
Review: I really liked this tape....although aerobic kickboxing won't help you in a ring, it is fun. Kathy Smith is a good instructor and the tape is fairly easy. It is empowering to punch and kick. The tape definately gets you moving. Although the music could use an overhaul it isn't horrible.

Summary: This is great!
Review: I really enjoy this video. I have limited time but after doing this video once I was hooked. She explains all of the moves and the correct ways to complete them. Then you can work out to your level. Whether it is beginner or advanced.

Summary: Good aerobic workout, so-so kickboxing
Review: Having worked out with Kathy's tapes through the 80s and 90s, I was expecting better. Maybe it's just that she can't be good at all things, or that she's getting older, but I thought she had bad form with the kicks, and seemed winded and tired. Plus she seems to yack an awful lot during this tape, which is annoying. I ended up watching the powerhouse woman on Kathy's right and the professional on her left, and got a good workout. Maybe doing the tape on "mute" would be better. Or maybe I'll just dig out one of her older tapes which highlight her forte' - just good old aerobics.

Summary: My top 2 picks! Kathy Smith & Larry Lam's XKO Kickboxing
Review: Larry Lam's XKO Kickboxing and Kathy Smith's are the best kickboxing workout videos on the market!!! Both Keith and Larry Lam are professionals who know the correct technique for safety. I really like the XKO Kickboxing workout because of the energy and the great look it has. Larry has a fresh approach, in fact, FIT MAGAZINE (April, 2001) has a great review on it. As for Kathy... she knows her stuff! Both got me sweating and I've lost 7 pounds in 2 months!

Summary: Kathy's Kickboxing is SAFE AND FUN
Review: I have enjoyed this video for about 6 months now and I love it. I had been discouraged by Tae Bo and was looking for a rebound video. Kathy Smith is great. The workout is safe, fun, and flows well, bonus segements allow you to stop when you want and pick it up again when and where you want. This video is valuable at all levels of ability. The best part is that after 6 months it hasn't gotten old. I am so glad that I puchased this video, my only regret is that I didn't buy it on DVD.

Summary: Ehh....
Review: This tape is all right for someone who does aerobics tapes and wants to try kickboxing. If you've done kickboxing before, (I've done Tae Bo, Power Kicks, and a kickboxing class with a black belt) it's pretty low key by comparison. After doing the real thing, this just doesn't cut it. I like Kathy's walking tapes, but this tape left me lukewarm about the whole kickboxing thing, and I love kickboxing. I recommend buying Aaron Lankford's Power Kicks, Tae Bo, or even Cory Everson's Kardio Kick over this one. If you're not familiar with kickboxing, Chuck Norris' Private Lessons is also very good (although it's designed as a self defense instruction, so there's some mention of doing bodily harm to attackers). It's approximately 50 minutes of instruction, followed by a 20 minute routine. The form is generally decent on this tape, but the atmosphere is definitely more of an aerobics class, and not a kickboxing class.

Summary: Doable.
Review: This is a good tape for someone new to kickboxing workouts. There is some initial instruction from Kathy and Keith Cooke (a martial arts expert)and then a good and easy warm-up session. The workout has some parts that require practice and a modicum of coordination but can be mastered. Following the workout is a section to help limber up for and learn the kicks. Then there's a decent stretching session and finally a session to strengthen the midsection. All in all, it is a good tape, FAR SUPERIOR to the Tae-Bo tapes I am stuck with and also cheaper then they are.

My only complaint about the tape is the annoying demeanor of someone named Keli left of Kathy on the screen. She's obviously good at the routine and in good shape. She may even be a super person. But there is something about the way she does the routine, something about her expressions and movements that just bothers me. Keith is obviously expert at this, too, but his demeanor is not annoying to me. Keli is another story for some reason. Ridiculous complaint but one that irks me.

Still, I do think you would be content with this purchase and would see some results with regular use. I'm not crazy about all of Kathy Smith's videos. She has some good ones and this is one of them.
