Rating: Summary: These pictures describe much more than a thousand words.. Review: This movie is, simply put: Beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. Not only the simplistic beauty portrayed by the camera but also the superb music. The kind of music which gives you goosebumps. And the lives of these little creatures! At one point, a colony of ants gets ransacked by some sort of dinosaur bird! And they were being eaten! Anyway, not just death and destruction here. Also, the creation, of life, caught on camera. Even though they were just snails, the opera music really made their love scene romantic, and inspiring. There is more in this beautiful movie, but I don't want to give it away. If you don't see this movie, you're missing out on a truly moving experience. So, see it.
Rating: Summary: A true family film for all ages Review: This movie rocks, I am 26 years old and I had seen the movie twice. Now I have a 10month old little girl so I had to buy it for her. Today I received it and invited my father over, all 3 of us enjoyed it. The music the sounds the filming is amazing. I am a photographer and I love macro but this is a whole new meaning to micro for film....The down fall is that my video brand new was very shakey in quality hopefully mine is just a machine error in the assembly line.
Rating: Summary: One of the great movies of all time----seriously Review: This movie should be packed onto the space shuttle with the other evidences of life on earth for the rest of intelligent life in the universe to see. So many reviewers here say how wonderful this film is for children. Well during my 50th birthday party someone put it on the TV in the guest bedroom, and all 30 or 40 guests (none of them children) ended up in there, mesmerized, laughing with delight. This is not Disney pablum, this is real life. Buy this movie, keep it in a safe place, enjoy it forever.
Rating: Summary: The Struggles of Life on a Smaller Scale Review: This movie, with very few words, captivates the watcher in just a few seconds. Incredibly closeup films of insects in birth, daily struggle, life and death will fascinate even the least interested and hold their attention for the length of the film. I cannot wait to get this movie on DVD. Please transfer it and release it to DVD ASAP.
Rating: Summary: Microcosmos Review: This VHS look at the world we do not see is beautiful. I don't know how they got such perfect pictures of a world so small. Utne Reader was right about the love scenes-who would have thought? Now I want this in DVD to see if more information is available on what exactly I was seeing. The original needed no words to be effective, but I have to admit to being curious about the details-just what are some of those creatures and how/why do they do that? FANTASTIC!
Rating: Summary: Mind-opening and a visual feast Review: Unlike another reviewer, I reveled in the music--especially the operatic background to the snail love scene (what aria was that???). I did find my inability to understand the haunting vocal score frustrating. This would appeal to almost anyone with a sense of wonder, from the professional entomologist to the enraptured toddler. Definitely one to buy and watch again and again.
