Rating: Summary: Practically Perfect in every way! Review: What a wonderful picture! There really aren't enough adjectives to describe effectively how this film gets to your heart. Julie Andrews was superbly cast as the magical nanny Mary Poppins. From when she swoops down onto the sidewalk outside the Banks home, to the final ending when she leaves, Julie Andrews owns the screen. This film carries a powerful message about love and family, and not to waste what time you have with your loved ones. It's a potent message that if not done right, can get very preachy. Fortunately, it was done right in this film, so it's carried over beautifully. The songs simply enchant. "Feed the Birds" is so heart-felt, you can see why it was supposedly Walt Disney's favorite song. The film transfer to DVD is excellent, with perfect sound and picture quality. The bonus features are well-done, with a nice 'Making of...' featurette in the mix. All in all, this has to be considered the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's time with his company, being the only feature by Disney to be nominated for a best picture oscar until 'Beauty and the Beast'. Please get this wonderful film for yourself. If you haven't seen it before, you'll love it. If you have, go back and enjoy it again and again.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I hear there are two versions of Mary Poppins' DVD going around - a single layer and a dual layer version. I unfortunately and unknowingly bought the single layer. Middle of the movie, it stops dead, an animated hand appears showing a disc being turned over and you have to leap up and flip your disc for the movie to resume. This is almost sacriledge in any movie but to do it in Mary Poppins is a crime. It kills the flow and destroys the magic. It should be clearly marked on the label if you have to flip your disc. So be warned all: check if you are getting the dual layer version on any long movie. If not, do not buy it.
Rating: Summary: Not up to par with Disney Collector's Edition movies Review: Disney should have made a collector's edition of this classic movie. Although the picture and sound quality are good and there are some bonus features, much more material could have been added to make a great DVD. This DVD is a good buy, but don't expect a lot of frills.
Rating: Summary: A spoonful of sugar-Mary Poppins(Garry Hixon) Review: Hello all! A great classic starring Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, English nanny and helpful chimney sweeper extrodinaire-by the way, despite what the dictionary says, supercalifragilistic-expealidotious, means to expidite, to go fast. Anyway this is a timeless classic, and it was aired on Disney's ABC-Sunday night for the first time in probably twenty years, shown on television that is! A spoonful of sugar is probably about cough syrup, but back then I believe it was either castor oil or cod liver oil!YUCHHHH! This movie must be seen to be beleived and if you have the time, watch as Mary Poppins floats down on the town in a dirty black smock and a black umbrella, and gets herself a job as a clean the kids room type nanny! A wonderful and expediantly timed film!-Thank you dear childre-Love Mary Poppins(Garry Hixon)-POOF!_bye
Rating: Summary: *The most beautiful way to watch Mary Poppins!!* Review: I knew from the moment it was released that it was going to be a beautiful dvd! I now know for myself! It is amazing! the picture quality and sound is mind-blowing! The screen format lets you see what you never saw before!
Rating: Summary: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever"... Review: Another quote from the movie that accurately describes this classic. The music, dancing, and singing all make a great film. The DVD includes the best extras, like the making of featurette as well as film from the movie's premiere. This is a top-notch Disney musical that belongs in any DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: Share this with your children, even the youngest of them! Review: For the past four months or so Mary Poppins has been a life-saver. If I need a moment alone or my daughter needs a break I just pop in "P. Poppins" (as it is called in my house) and all is good. My daughter turned 2 in Dec 2001. Even at her age she can understand the mystical presence of Mary Poppins. She loves to see her come out of the sky. As for my husband and I, we could listen to this movie all day long and not feel the need to convince our daughter of a new movie. We love "P. Poppins". It is a classic the entire family can enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Practically perfect!!! Review: I have loved this movie for as long as I remember. My mom had bought it for me when I was really young, and I loved it ever since. If you love magic, fantasy, a great laugh and old movies this is the movie for you. I definetly think that this is a movie worth keeping in your collection. Little kids will love it, but so does adults. The cast is great, the songs are great, you'll be hooked on!!! Also great to get is the Sound of Music.
