Summary: For the Glory
Review: This is, not was, an awesome movie. I, a Civil War buff, had not seen a film of that Genre. In school we studied the American Civil War, so we watched this film. It did a lot more than push my favorite, Spaceballs, from it's pedestal, but it cannonballed it off. I went out to purchase the film, and now watch it every time I may. Each time I watch the film, I learn something new, and see something new. The movie is complex, and requires a tiny understanding of Civil War history to comprehend with what is going on. However, it is still enjoyable anyways. I cry every time I see the end, and laugh as the soldiers do.

Summary: What I think
Review: This movie was the best I had seen in a decade. I don't know if it was because it is based on a true story or not. The writing was good, the acting was excellent and what is rarely captured on film is plainly displayed here and that is racial tension within the black race. There is a sensitivity regarding how other races view us that causes quick judgement and contention. The way we can say things to each other that when said by other races is considered an insult. The fact that every black soldier going down there to fight thought that he would be afforded a prominent place in history, but was not. These things pulled at my heart strings and elevated my respect for the people who selected and executed the making of this movie. Yes some of it hurts. Even though I know it was occurring back then(the abuse), I don't want to see it in my face. Overall I feel the elements that are necessary for top notch movie making were all poured into this masterpiece.

Summary: Glory - DVD
Review: Quite frankly the best Civil War drama ever made and one the best war movies ever made. When you see the DVD version even the preview grips you in and your hooked into this truly epic vison, from Edward Zwick. The film shines like a brand new film on DVD cinamatography is incredable the score from James Horner monumental.

The story Starts with Col.Robert Gould Shaw leading his union soldiers into an important victory for the war. When he comes back he is haunted by memories of battle. He is given an assignment to command a group of African American soldiers into battle. One of them who is played with remarkable realizm as a slave (Denzel Washington) who won an Oscar for his performance.

Robert accepts but the 54th is mistrusted by the Union soldiers. The 54th at first are given a proclamation to give in or they will be punished severly. But in one meraculous scene in the movie they all stay in hopes that they would be able to defend there country and die on the battlefeild.

But they meet with an General who is seemingly bent on useing them for manual labor and not giving them a chance to fight.Robert demands from the union that these soldiers be able to fight. In there first battle they do almost superb with bearly any casultys proving that they have what it takes to go into war.

The next morning a Genral shows Robert and the 54th there main opposition the stronghold FT.Wagner an almost invincible fortress that is heavily armed.Col.Robert says that he will lead his army into the first attact on the fort even knowing that the price of his soldiers will most ceartainly be death.

The morning after Col. Robert readys his men for battle and finally we see that the soldiers have earned the respect of the union soldiers.Robert tell a reporter ''If I, should fall you remember what you saw here today''.But the most powerful line in the movies was Robert telling them if one person should fall who will carry the flag.

The final battle scene at Wagner is heartwrenching and heroic bravery. We see that there is fire all around them but what makes them soliders is they don't care they wan't to continue in the one of the best battle scenes Hollywood has ever made.We see them charging to the fort men dying all around them horribly.Shaw tells them to remain in a trench. When Shaw decides to make another attack he is killed by gunfire, in the most harrowing scene of the hole movie as one of the soliers picks up the fallen flag they make a brave charge for the fort and you see that these men are no longer soldiers there MEN.

James Horner's score is incredable in this scene it does not let up.As the men race to take the fort still heavy casuiltys and they are horribly met at the entrence by confederate soldiers killing them.In the final scene we see the confederate soldiers lifting the body of Col. Shaw and throwing him in the trench in the saddest part of the movie we see almost all of the 54th have lost there lives.

If you do not cry at or at leat think the ending of Glory is sad then you don't know what sacrifice is.A truly moving and heroic masterpeice one of the best movies of the milleniuum.

Summary: Glory-The Movie and the Experience
Review: When I first saw the movie Glory I was moved by the events. But I did not believe that Blacks where in uniform during the war. I was never a student of the civil war and I started to research the subject but I could not find very much about this battle at Fort Wagner. Finally I found a reference to this battle and drove to Chicago and went to the Historical Society. I later purchased an antique book listing all the Michigan Regiments and the 101st Michigan Black Vounteers that fought alone side the 54th Mass.

Other than the fact of being enlightened by a wonderful story I was moved by their pride. I later joined a Michigan Re-enactment Regiment. I continued to watch a particular part of the movie to motivate me in my business. It has changed my life. The troops are sitting together around a fire signing to build their spirt. Tomorrow their are going to find themselve in front of a Fort that is well protected and they know and realize that they will be in harms way and the majority of them with be killed. Morgan Freeman, who is a Seargant Major get up in front of his troops and signs out his own prayer. This prayer is now part of my life.

I can't begin to tell you how moivng this movie is for me and many of the people who have seen it. It is not just a story about Black Man. But it does tell their story with deep detail. They might have been slaves once, but the men of the 54th Mass are MEN.

Lord we stand before you, this evening, to say thank you, we thank you father for your grace and many your blessing. Now I run off and let all my youngins and my kinfolk in bondage. So I am standing here this evening heavenly father to ask your blessing, on all of us. So that if tomorrow is our great up morning . If tomorrow we have to met the judgement day. Our heavenly father we what you to let our folks know that we died facing the enemy. we want them to know that we went down standing up Of all those that our fighting against our oppression. We want them to know that we died for freedom.

I can't state more clearly that this movie should be seen by all.

Summary: Glorious Movie____________________________________________
Review: I thought this was a great movie, even "glorious". The film made you think about war in itself, it did not make it something it isn't, but it still made the viewer feel the importance of it. In every sense the movie was realistic, historically and emotionally. I mean this in that it is an accurate account of the Civil War, but more importantly, it didn't go overboard in the dramatics; "Glory" let the viewer experience the feelings that it tried to convey perfectly. This was achieved with a great cast, beautiful cinematography, and sweeping sound and music. My critique for this movie would be that it (although it might sound crazy) should have been a bit longer, go further into character, and build a little more towards the final battle. The acting was all around good, I felt the movie brought out some of the better performances from each of them. I did rate the movie as a five star, but really it is more like 4 and 4/5 (I have yet to see a perfect film). As for it not getting the due amount of awards at the Oscar's or whatever, I have seen the other movies, and it was a real mistake to give the awards to those over this movie. Overall, "Glory" was not just a great Civil War movie, but a great achievement as a film all by itself.___________________________________________

Summary: GLORY ... Hallelujah!
Review: Here's one of those rare movies that succeeds as both a sweeping, visually sumptuous historical epic AND an intimate, character-driven personal drama. This fact-based account of the first black regiment to fight for the Union in the Civil War is filled with scenes of grand pageantry: the bloody battle at Antietam Creek; the first assembly of the 54th Regiment; the proud parade of the finally-trained and uniformed soldiers; the climactic attack on Fort Wagner. And yet despite these heart-pounding, majestic sequences, the film at no time loses its focus on the individual characters whose stories provide an emotional connection to the action. The performances of the once-in-a-lifetime cast are uniformly superb: Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman, and Andre Braugher are all at the top of their game, and Denzel Washington (who won the Supporting Actor Oscar) is amazing, especially in the scene in which he undergoes a bitterly harsh punishment. The dozens of emotions that flicker across Washington's face in that sequence, wordlessly conveying his character's essence, represent a powerful economy of acting that is rarely achieved in any medium.

Happily, the DVD transfer of this cinematic masterpiece is exceptional. The Oscar-winning Cinematography and Sound are beautifully showcased, putting the viewer right in the middle of the story. (You'll understand Francis Scott Key's line about "the rockets' red glare" on a level you never before imagined!) And James Horner's soaring, elegant musical score is a revelation. ... this phenomenal DVD experience!

Summary: A Great Movie!
Review: I loved this movie! The acting was wonderful and you really establish a connection with the characters. In this movie, it doesn't matter wheather you're a Civil War buff or not, it motivates you a subject that has had much debate over the last 60 years, wheather we're all equal. This movie totally puts it into persespective. The last few scenes will have the greatest affect on anyone, touching subjects from patriotism to courage and strength. I encourage everyone to see this movie, for it will not be a thing that you will regret!
