Summary: Rumor Mill
Review: GOSSIP is a film that tries hard to fit in to the thriller genre. It takes a while to get going, then just when it starts to gain momentum, its climax falls short of satisfying its viewers. The story centers around what happens on a college campus, when three journalism students break a story, that turns out to be a hoax. The story was planted in order to track how the twisted changes as it makes its way through campus. Things get dicey for the trio when the police are called in to investigate what really happened. The cast, led by James Marsden, Lena Headey, Norman Reedus, and the lovely Kate Hudson, do their best to keep it interesting, and so does director Davis Guggenheim. In my opinion, the script is what ultimately does this film in. Most of the characters are cardbaord cutout clones from THE SKULLS and CRUEL INTENTIONS

The best extra on DVD is the alternate ending, which I think works better, as a conclusion, than the one that is used in the final cut. There are two music videos, one from Tonic, and the other from Poe. There are a handful of deleted scenes, a Gossip montage, and un-used interview footage, conducted by the Travis character, to track the rumor's changes, and cast and crew information. Rounding out the disc's extras is the commentary track from Marsden and Guggenheim that is ok and the theatrical trailler that hardly anyone saw at a multplex, since the film had not done well at all, and had no time on the big screen.

Summary: Gossip Talks
Review: I went back and forth about buying this title because of some of the reviews that I read. However, I decided to buy it anyway and I'm glad that I did. Gossip is really a good movie. Aside from the obvious, the beautiful people with the beautiful clothes that are beautifully photographed (Andrzej Bartkowiak take a bow) the movie is well acted inspite of the frailty of the plotline (the last 1/3) which isn't a total loss.

I was pleasantly surprised by James Marsden who gives a brilliant performance as the manipulator that squeezes compassion from the viewer - inspite of the evil that he spreads and the reason why. His roommates played by Lena Heady and Norman Reedus are first rate.

I rarely listen to the commentaries, frankly because they rarely give insight, and sometimes are just flat out annoying. The commentary by Marsden and Guggenheim is not one of those. This one is funny in parts, technical in others, but never boring.

If you haven't seen this film I recommend it - Gossip is definitely one of the better 'hip' films out there.

Review: Whilst I admit to not being a fan of post-modern cinema with narrative about teenagers, I was drawn to this title because of the presence of Kate Hudson, who is the only actor here who manages to maintain her dignity.
The screenplay by Gregory Poirier and Theresa Rebeck presents college students with a high school mentality, who are stereotypically shallow sex-obsessed alcoholics, with the line "That's not an answer" used twice, "She has a veracity problem" a notable howler, and a climactic struggle for the gun cliche. Director Davis Guggenheim doesn't help by using self-conscious camerawork, giving rich James Marsden a designer apartment, and laughable excuses for lectures by Eric Bogosian.

Hudson is as beautiful as her character is said to be, is seen lieing langerously on her bed in long shoot, and is the only person to express honest emotions. Poor Lena Headey suffers from being a Winona clone with bad teeth, Norman Reedus is the Bill Gates-style geek via James Dean, and Marsden's constant pacing seems to be him running away from his pretty boy woman-hater's obvious latent homosexuality. A conversation he has with Reedus possesses far more innuendo than any of his kissing of Headey.
The de rigeuer plot twists seem to match the accumulative use of rain, and the resolution is like a peak-a-boo piece of theatre.

Summary: A great movie, beautifully played by James Marsden
Review: The movie is about three bored college students planting a rumor and tracking how it evolves and spins out of control. This is an intelligent and subtle thriller, not the kind that has dead bodies and blood all over the place.
James Marsden's heart stopping good looks and extraordinary talent are a treat to watch this film as well as all his other movies (Sugar & Spice, X-Men, Disturbing Behavior, Bella Mafia, On the Edge of Innocence, Public Enemies, Gone in a Heartbeat, Second Noah ...). Look forward for his new film "Interstate 60" and "X2" coming out in Fall 2002 and May 2003, respectively.

Summary: A Clever and Intense Rollercoaster of Rumors
Review: Starring Ally McBeal's James Marsden (not to mention a song by him also) this sharp taught thriller combines ALL the mystery and suspense of a totally hip and in-your-face Hitchcockian flick for the X Generation.
The outcome of the plot twists so many times it fits in perfect with classics such as The Sixth Sense, Dragonfly, The Mothman Prophecies, Suicide Kings, and The Way of the Gun.
Although not as bloody, spooky or as paranormal as these it definitely rates among the best movies I have EVER seen. It totally holds my every interest each and every time I watch it. It is one movie that you have to tell your friends about and that you can literally watch over and over and over and over. And with these TIGHT! Extras, deleted scenes, the making of's, the HISTERACLE commentary, and the awesome music videos it comes in a pretty fail-safe package.
If you do not buy it today, send me an email and I'll convince you till the cows come home. BUY THIS DVD NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. It wasn't very popular only because there were like twenty ga-gillion teen flicks out at the time, but if you missed this one - YOU MISSED THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY 100% WORTH IT! So quit fooling around with Scream knock-offs and wannabies and pick up a copy of GOSSIP today, and if you don't believe me, just rent it first then you will definitely be convinced to buy it.

Summary: A Kick In the Head: Penny Lane 2 Ally McBeal
Review: I got this movie for 2 reasons. I loved Kate Hudson as Penny Lane in Almost Famous & have enjoyed watching James Marsden this season on Ally McBeal singing old Sinatra tunes like "Ain't That A Kick In the Head?" The film wasn't perfect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really like the sense of community you get between the three leads. Norman Reedus' performance as the somewhat maladjusted but brilliant artist Travis was superbly understated. Marsden didn't sing Sinatra, but he did a good job at the conceited & charming Derrick Webb. I think the false note for me was how easily he turned on his friends when he seemed to invest so much emotional energy in them. I would have liked to have seen the emotional cost. I didn't believe that Derrick would be as big of a liar as he turned out to be. Lena Headey was quite elegant as the earthy Ms. Jones. Kate Hudson seemed wasted in the movie, usually appearing as the rich aloof Ms. Popularity. Her scene with Jones made her seem approachable and real. I didn't ever get the sense of hurt from her rape which should have been somewhere in the movie. I still lament the fact that Sharon Lawrence got shot on NYPD Blue & wish she was still married to Sipowitz; so was sad she wasn't better used in this film. She added a great reality to her few scenes and showed what a fine actress she is. The sets were kind of like Miami Vice updated. The wealthy kids I knew in college were more into grunge, but the film is visually appealing. I liked Eric Bogosian's brief role as the professor and would have liked a higher profile as the movie climaxed. Edward James Olmos shows good depth for as small of a part as he played. Joshua Jackson did a good job of making out with Kate Hudson. And finally, I liked this film because it was about something. The idea of how words can be hurtful has a universality that can be adapted in each generation. On the DVD version, I particularly liked the phone call Derrick makes to his parents which didn't make the final cut of the movie. It showed good depth. I think most will find the film interesting and fun despite some plot inconsistencies. Enjoy!

Summary: Gossip is fun...Gossip is lethal!!
Review: Take a group of university students + create a rumour + watch how it grows + sit back and watch it turn lethal. This movie proves just how easy it is to create something out of thin air and totally change the lives of people around you forever.
The rumour centres around a popular but hated girl and her boyfriend. The rumour grows and grows and before long the rumour has been changed or added to and theres no stopping something so lethal. A non stop thriller that messes with your mind and makes you prone to believe what you are hearing and almost enjoy it.
A really strong cast and story make Gossip really mind grabbing and entertaining. Be sure to tell everyone about it!!

Summary: Why this ending? Why in the name of god?
Review: This movie for me was the biggest let down of my entire life. Almost this entire movie was great, the acting was great, the music was great, the camera work was great. then the writer or the director(i am not sure who is to blame)gave the movie the WORST ENDING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. The ending is made that much worse because of how good the movie is until then. if you are going to see this movie just know to have a vomit bag with you at the end.

Review: Three university students (James Marsden, Lena Headly, Norman Reedus) start a nasty rumor about a student (Joshua Jackson) raped a beautiful student (Kate Hudson) at a college bar. Then there more trouble, when one of the three students had a dark past with the beautiful student.

Directed by Davis Guggenhiem (Producer of Oscar-Winning:Training Day) made a clever/mystery/thriler with only fault is with the last half-hour. DVD`s has strong anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer and Pan & Scan is included. Excellent Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The film included an running commentary track by director:Guggenhiem & Actor: Mardesn). This could've been a Perfect Film, if it's wasn't for the last half-hour, which it's becomes far-fecthed and unbelivable (especially at the Climax). Strong Cinemagraphy by filmmaker:Andrezj Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds) does helps. Screenplay by Gregory Poirier (A Sound of Thunder) and Theresa Bebeck (Harriet the Spy), from a story by Poirier. Panavision. Grade:B+.
