Review: Claire Danes is a goddess that makes this movie better than it is. This modernization of the original play is done perfectly.

Summary: Thou Art Shall watch this film from a balcony if u have to!!
Review: O.K. may not be the original, but so much better! The 1996version of this movie will capture you in the new plot. Actress ClaireDanes and actor DeCaprio re-do a fine job in this movie. Younger viewers may have to see it a few times to understand the language, but older viewers will be aware from the play we all learned in high-school. The beginning of the movie will make you want to stop watching, but if you hang in there, you will feel the true emotions that Shakespear wants you to feel, though if he were alive, i don't think he would like this modern version. I love romantic tradegy, so by saying i love the unexpected, fatal ending, i am not giving much away, since everyone knows they die....but this time Juliet choses a different weapon for you to experience that i will not tell! The book is also avalaible here. It as Shakespear's real play and the now movie version in one. The two CD soundtracks for the movie are two great discs to own too. The movie tunes include: Gargage's "#1 Crush" and "pretty piece of flesh" by One Inch Punch. One final comment: The guy who plays Friar Lawrence is cool in this movie!

Summary: "Although the tragic ending, it was beautful".
Review: "This is a great video I think it should be rated high up with 'Titanic' and 'Gone With the Wind'.It is one of the best romantic films I've seen.Great Music, great actors, geat story.Although the tragic ending, it was beautiful.I like it when especially when they got married.I can't believe Leonardo Dicaprio didn't become famous until 'Titanic'."

Summary: Shakespeare's rolling in his grave
Review: For every 16 year old who watched this movie and thought "How great!" I only hope that age makes you a little wiser and a little more intelligent with your movie picks. Yeah, I paid the seven bucks to see it, and I was horrified at the liberties they took. I know one of the qualities of great literature is that it can be adapted into modern times and that it's accessible to all ages, but this is a joke. "Leo" and Claire Danes are pathetic as the star-crossed lovers. It's uncomfortable to see them try and speak in Shakespeare's language. It also seems that acting in itself had gone by the wayside. There is no legitimate supporting cast--and I couldn't wait until that John Leguzamo guy died. For anyone who likes watching classic movies and not some teenie bop adaptation--I suggest renting the 1967 Zefirrelli's "Romeo and Juliet." There's a movie that will bring anyone to tears knowing that this is how it's meant to be done.
