Summary: Entertaining interpretation of Arthurian Legend
Review: Connery slips well into the role of King Arthur, a dignified hero but with a hint of vulnerability. The movie concentrates on the personal relationships between Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot, and while this isn't the most interesting aspect of Arthurian tales, it is under-represented in previous film versions of the legends.Although the interiors are authentic, the location scenes show the full beauty of the English Countryside and the scenes of Arthur riding through look magnificent. A strong supporting cast, including Johnny Gielgud in one of his later, cameo-style roles add an air of quality to the proceedings.

Summary: Good cast with the exception of Gere
Review: First Knight probably has the best look to it out of all the other movies about the charcters of Camelot. The score by Jerry Goldsmith is superb. Sean Connery and Julia Ormond are probably the best Kind Arthur and Guinevere ever as well. Richard Gere however just doesn't work as Lancelot. He looks clumsy with a sword, he's sort of laughable too. He lacks the edge of Viggo Mortenson in Lord of the Rings or even the charm of Heath Ledger in a Knight's Tale. Even just looking at the cover of the dvd, it's obvious that something is wrong with the picture and it's not Connery or Ormond. Gere lacks the heroic look that is needed for Lancelot. I can't say that he at least doesn't have some chemestry with Ormond though. The film still wouldn't of been great without him as Lancelot I must admit because the movie still has it's problems. It's predictibale for one thing, everyime Guinevere is in trouble you just know Lancelot is gonna come to rescue. Meanwhile it would of been nice to see Arthur get some action instead of being smothered with the predictability that something is gonna happen between Lancelot and Guinevere that will betray Athur's trust in them.

Review: When you think of Sean Connery, what role could be better for him
to play than that of King Arthur. A wonderful movie with some terrific acting. This movie brings to life the legendary tale of
King Arthur and the knights of the round table. Just as King Arthur is about to send Sir Lancelot (Richard Gere) to his death,
the evil knight Malagent invades Camelot and gives Arthur an ultimatum: serve me or die. To find out what happens, you will
have to see for yourself. A spectacual film.

Summary: FIRST KNIGHT BEST MOVIE EVER!!!
Review: I wasn't really looking forward to seeing this movie, but my friend and I decided to watch it just for kicks. Now it's quite hard to impress us, as we get bored easily, but this movie captivated us from the very start. I know some people are mad that it's not "historically correct" and "they should be speaking Latin" and to that I say, WHO CARES!!!!!! This movie had a diabolical plot that kept me guessing from the beginning,and the characters are even better! 2/3 of movie- goers have no clue what the "correct" outfit for Arthurian times is, and I think the clothes they had were perfectly fine. The setting for the movie was beautiful, and each actor was perfect for their part. Do yourself a favor and go rent this movie for any occasion, for it appeases all people. It has drama, romance, comedy, and violence, good elements for any movie seperately, but when pieced together give the movie a fresh, hot spin. This is my all- time favorite movie!

Summary: Charming and captivating
Review: I'm not much of a fan of this time frame, however, the acting and the screenplay was very well done. When King Arthur offers to release Gweneviere from the upcoming marriage, because he fears she doesn't love him (and still offers to protect her parents village from harm, regardless of her answer)... it's quite touching, and we see through this action and others that he is a good and honorable man who loves her very much. His vision and ruling of Camelot is portrayed with high respect and strength. When Lancelot repeatedly saves Gweneviere, we see how his love for her continues to grow as well. With two special, and so very different men in love with her, she is forced with some difficult choices and emotions... through it all, she is torn between the two, and this story is full of surprises and troubles of other kinds.

Review: .....I can not believe what I just saw. I think the research for this movie came from Disney. The lack of understanding for the legends of Arthur could not be greater. The costumes? (Must agree with the reviewer who compared them to Star Trek uniforms for the medieval guy.) Oh, and then there's the music. The "composer" blatantly lifted from Wagner and Orff. (Or maybe he thought he could rewrite the 'Excalibur' soundtrack and didn't realize that it came from Wagner and Orff.) .....So what was this movie trying to accomplish? Strip away all the myth and legend and give the characters human characteristics? Somehow they all came off as one-dimensional saplings in plotless environs. If you are looking for a perspective on the Arthur legends, without the sorcery, there's an interesting trilogy by 'Bernard Cornwell', called "The Warlord Chronicles".
.....In defence of this disaster, just one thing: I know people were upset about about Gere's accent, but keep in mind that Arthur would have spoken Latin, Breton and probably an ealry form of Welsh. English (which came from the invading Angles) wasn't spoken by the local tribes, so Sean Connery was equally out of place.

Summary: For One Brief Shining Moment, Where Was Camelot?
Review: This spin on the Camelot myth is a rather alienating one. It yielded some good things, such as Julia Ormond's Guenevere as a true woman of the people. Sean Connery had a staid, dignified charisma about him as King Arthur. But when he speaks, he is practically chomping on the words.
While I don't necessarily mind an older actor like Richard Gere playing Launcelot, I would like to know how the character went from being a French nobleman to an orphaned English lad who lives by his wits. As a knight, he justifies the tragedies of his early life by helping to save others from similar fates. I suppose the writers of this script would justifiy changing Launcelot's character that way.
Camelot itself now has an interestingly distinguished and antiseptic look about it. Whereas in the Lerner and Lowe musical, it had a nice pink glow about it, the dream kingdom now has Royal blue as its symbolic color.
I hadn't seen Ben Cross do anything for years before I saw him in this movie. I don't remember a Malagant anywhere in the King Arthur ledgend. I guess this is what can happen when a well-known story becomes public domain. Anybody can do anything.
Seeing Malagant come to a just end was a redeeming quality, although I didn't care much for the forced intensity of the final battle scene, brought on by that annoying chorus going "Dominus, Dominus" in the background. At the end,those involved in the love triangle reconcile. But the funeral scene is a ripoff of the 1958 movie, "The Vikings".
This is a film I may watch every now and then, but I prefer the 1967 musical over this one. Nice try folks! Better luck next time.

Summary: Connery and Gear
Review: This is an outstanding movie of love, and the disires of love. This movie is placed in the Camolot, and around King Arthur and the knights of the round table. Lady Gwenivere has some early trials in the begin of the movie, one such cut of an ambush on her carriage going from her land of Leoness to king Arthurs side in Camolot. In this chase for her livelyhood Gwenivere throws herself and her two ladies in waiting from the moving carriage, where Lancelot makes his first rescuse. This is an intising film and it comes highly recommended for all the romantic people out there.
