Summary: Extremely disappointing
Review: I enjoyed John Woo's previous movies for what they were, simplistic action movies with exiciting action, relatively clever plots and decent dialogue. This movie is awful however. The acting is bad. The script is bad. The characters are bad. And Woo goes overboard with the battle scenes. It's almost like he watched Saving Pvt Ryan and decided that he wanted to recreate the intense and graphic battle scenes himself - which he does about 10 times during the movie. Eventually you get sick of watching soldiers hurtling thru the air with missing limbs. I struggled to watch the whole film.

Summary: Windtalkers
Review: I bought the VHS Copy of this movie. We were very disappointed with the theme as every war detail was too graphic, gory scenes. There was just too little information about the Indians that were the windtalkers. They needed to give more information about them and not all the war scenes. The acting was superb however as far as the characters involved.

Summary: movie trailer deceiving
Review: The trailer for this movie made it look better than it actually was. I was rather disappointed that the movie didn't turn out to be as good as it looked in previews. I found that there were too many special effects and battle scenes but not enough character development and dialogue.

Summary: Pride and prejudice
Review: Although Navajo soldiers served a vital purpose, speaking in a code based on their language, during WWII, prejudice still existed against them, as illustrated in "Windtalkers". In the movie Nicolas Cage is assigned the duty of keeping a windtalker safe from capture, an act which was to be avoided by murder, if necessary. Cage is afraid to let himself become too friendly with his charge, in case he does have to kill him. He is also haunted by memories of a previous encounter during the war, when all of the men under his command died as a result of his unwillingness to retreat. This movie serves an importnat purpose in informing the public as to the vital role of the Navajo "windtalkers" during WWII, but it would have been a better film if there had been more interaction between the characters and fewer violent battle scenes.

Summary: A major disappointment
Review: This movie was terrible. It was about a Marine without a personality (Nicolas Cage's character) and had very little to do with the Navajo code talkers. The Navajo characters had to state what they did in monologues because the movie did such a poor job showing it. The director John Woo has little understanding of how Americans act. When was the last time you walked into a bar and saw everyone, and I mean everyone singing the same song while raising beer mugs in the air?

I heard Dan King, who is an expert on WWII Japanese equipment was hired as an adviser and it showed. The Japanese uniforms and weapons were among the best I've ever seen in a movie. But it looks like Woo decided to plan the battles and fight scenes himself. They're totally unrealistic. All explosions were gasoline enhanced and no Marine ever wasted a shot, since every bullet fired hit its mark. Cage kills so many Japanese he should be awarded the Medal of Honor. Soldiers casually walk upright in open fields in broad daylight while being pounded by machine guns and explosives. They looked like they were walking to a cafeteria, not through a raging battlefield. The characters remain cheery and fresh thoughout the horrific campaign as I became dishearted and diappointed as I watched them.

John Woo should stick to the hoaky action flicks he's used to. Leave the war stories to those who are good at it. The current crop of war movies have raised the level of realism and Woo is not up to the challenge. This movie stinks. I should have rented it before I wasted my money buying it.

Summary: Hardcore WWII Movie Fans Will Like it
Review: Nicholas Cage is usually good in anything he does and John Woo did a decent job of directing. The war scenes are riveting and could not be done better. We see some introspective in five of the characters, Sgt. Enders, Yahzee, Sgt. Anderson, Charlie Whitehorse, and Chick. The rest are poorly developed. We hope to see the story of the Windtalkers but it is never truly developed. We see there is a Navaho code developed, and Tank is Turtle in that code. Then we see Cage told he must defend his code talker and the code itself above all. Most of the rest the movie is battle scenes but we periodically see a sprinkling of code talkers telling enemy coordinates to one another for support or shooting the breeze about what is happening in their company. Although interesting it doesn't touch us like Private Ryan did. I think with a little more character development, especially the Indians, it would have been a better movie. Yahzee getting mad at Sgt. Enders and running around killing Japanese without concern for those trying to protect him didn't endear me to him. The casting of the Indians could have been better. I think Wes Studi would have been great in this movie.

We see some introspective in five of the characters, Sgt. Enders, Yahzee, Sgt. Anderson, Charlie Whitehorse, and Chick. The rest are poorly developed. We hope to see the story of the Windtalkers but it is never truly developed completely. Although very interesting it doesn't touch us emotionally like Private Ryan did. I think with a little more character development, especially the Indians, it would have been a great movie. When Yahzee gets mad at Sgt. Enders and runs around wildly killing Japanese without concern for those trying to protect him, it didn't endear me to him. I think if they had cast Wes Studi also, it would have been even better. This said this is still a movie worth owning. I certainly bought it on DVD.

Summary: I enjoyed it
Review: ..., when all those soldiers were being bombed the reason the "codetalker" had to call in was because he knew the exact location of those guns that were miles away from the batallion that was being bombed.
My wife and I rented this not expecting much, IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE! You could say all war movies have been done before, I knew a guy like the character Nicolas Cage played.
As far as I'm concerned, rent Windtalkers, I enjoyed it.

Summary: historical pictures
Review: I really liked this movie and Nicolas Cage does a wondeful job starring as a battle scarred Sergeant recruited to protect a Navajo "codetalker" from falling into Japanese hands during the Saipan battle of 1945. The only problem I had with this movie is that they didn't show enough of the Navajo telling the coordinates during major battles, but it's still a pretty good war flick.

Summary: Warning: This movie is NOT what it claims to be
Review: This movie hyped itself to feature the efforts of the Navajo indians during WWII and the usage of their language as code. Less than 10% of this movie is actually about the Navajo indians' contribution to the Pacific War effort and mostly about the Nicolas Cage character and his problems. I was very disappointed.
