Summary: You've got to love Christopher Walken!
Review: This movie was a pleasant surprise for me. I found it at the video store and thought I'd give it a try since I'm a big fan of Christopher Walken. I didn't expect it to become one of my very favorite films. It's a shame this movie wasn't a bigger hit in the box office. Suicide Kings is really well written and, more importantly, extremely entertaining. Lots of familiar faces in this movie, all playing memorable characters. The story starts a little slow, but really takes off. It ends with a twist I didn't expect. Watch this movie. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Surprisingly Good, Considering the Title!
Review: I was given this DVD for Christmas two years ago, and until a copule of months ago, it sat unopened. (What kind of name is "Suicide Kings" for a movie anyway?) Before I decided to Ebay it away, I thought I'd give it a shot, so I popped into my computer's DVD player one Sunday to see what this movie was all about.
I don't want to give much about the plot away here, but I was actually pretty surprised with this movie - and wished I'd had opened that package sooner! I love a movie with a twist, one that keeps me guessing, and this movie definitely has that going for it. While the premise is a bit outrageous - who in their right MIND would kidnap someone so powerful that with a snap of their finger, he could have them killed? But, this group of college guys somehow manage to pull it off, and while it has a serious moment here and there, I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times while I watched it. I think it's worth watching, and if you can pick up the DVD for a good price, it's worth it. I like seeing all the extra stuff you get with a DVD, and in the case of Suicide Kings, there is also the bonus of an alternate ending, which some people may prefer, but I personally think they chose the right ending to suit my taste.
This review might not tell you much, but the point anyway is to tell you what I thought of it, and I liked it. Not as much as I liked Goodfellas, but enough to bother reviewing it and telling you that it's good for a few laughs and has a nice twist to keep you guessing!

Summary: A CLEVER THRILLER WITH GREAT ACTING & TWISTS
Review: Even though this movie didn't get a lot of good reviews from the critics, and some people didn't like it, I thought "Suicide Kings" was a clever thriller filled with suspense, humor, and unforgettable twists around every corner. When Avery's sister is kidnapped, he becomes desperate and will do just about anything to get her back. After telling his buddies, they decide to kidnap a notorious and retired mob boss to get her back. Knowing that he is powerless against them and seeing that he is tied to a chair with one of his fingers cut off, he agrees to use his contacts to get her back. Along the way, he gets into their heads, trying to turn them against each other. What seemed to be a perfect plan quickly gets out of control and leads to horrifying results. It would've been nice to see Denis Leary in the movie a little more. There are some really good actors in this movie, but Denis Leary steals the show and has some of the funniest lines ever to be heard in a movie. This is a great film with a surprise ending that you have to see to believe. Although this is a clever thriller, there are some things in this movie that seem a little more than unbelievable at times, and may even confuse one at some parts. Still, it is a great thriller filled with suspense, humor, and non stop twists lurking around every corner. "Suicide Kings" should be given a fair viewing.

Summary: Gritty? Independent? - It ain't Hitchcock
Review: With the code words "gritty independent film" I guess we're supposed to be impressed with the creative spark that spawned this. On the whole, though, this marginally witty film is supposed to be some sort of "psychological suspense" thing driven by dialogue. Whoa, man ... mind games. Watch Christopher Walken mess with some hapless fratboys! That's suspense? Denis Leary interludes are interspersed, reasonably implying an understanding of the tedium that is the bulk of this thing. So we get to hear Denis Leary do his "this is what is wrong with this country" spiel a couple times and beat a couple people up. Yawn. One reviwer said he thought 'Suicide Kings' was a self-parody. Alas, this movie really believes it is very clever. Some bumbling idiots have their minds messed with ... very psychological ... spooky, man.

Summary: One of the Most Interesting Films in a While
Review: While this film did not get much attention elsewhere, it certainly has mine. Suicide Kings is a movie about a group of spoiled rich kids in a tight bind with some criminals. To help gain some leverage in the ordeal, one of them has the bright idea to kidnap a NY mob boss (Walken). A guessing game of who betrayed who ensues and it will keep you wondering. This movie is hilarious, smart and interesting. It's full of great acting, funny dialogue, and interesting plot twists. Christopher Walken, in my opinion one of the greatest movie bad guys, shows his range in an outstanding performance. He's funny, dramatic and intense, all while being taped to a chair for most of the movie. Other notable performances are Dennis Leary, who plays Walken's right hand man in classic Leary style, and Jay Moore as the hard nosed, stubborn leader of the preps. The film has a very independent feel to it and is gritty at some points. While feeling this way, however, it does not feel un-professional ever. Basically, if you want a funny film with great performances from great actors, a good plot (which is often scarce nowadays), and a cheap price ...!!!, you have no excuse not to buy Suicide Kings.

Summary: A Great Sleeper Flick
Review: I never saw this movie when it came out to theaters, and to be honest, I don't think I ever heard of it until I took a chance and bought it on DVD. I really was not disappointed. There was everything in this movie: drama,comedy, and action all thrown into one. Christopher Walken is excellent as the gangster that a group of young yuppies kidnap to help them find one of the guy's sister. Walken spends 80 % of the movie sitting in a chair, but he is great in his role. Walken can play a creepy guy or a mobster like no other can. A surprise to me though was Jay Mohr as one of the high strung yuppies. I've known him from his horrible years on "Saturday Night Live" and a few comedies in between, but he impressed me with his mostly dramatic role. Another strong actor in the movie was Dennis Leary as Walken's driver/bodyguard. Let's just say he uses household items like a toaster as a weapon. The only lowpoint of the movie was the DVD extras. There were a number of scenes deleted from the movie. However, the director talked over the entire deleted scene, and his conversation was mostly meaningless. I would of rather had him talk before the scene and let it play out entirely. Other than that there is not much else wrong with the movie. If you like a good story with some "real" acting, then I recommend "Suicide Kings"...

Summary: Wicked clever...wicked funny...wicked fable...
Review: First I'm not a fan of Tarantino. The little I've seen of his work is so self-indulgent I'm glad to learn that something "good" has been squirreled from it. I am a Christopher Walken fan (check-out THE PROPHECY trilogy: watch a hell of an actor play Rebel Angel trying to outdo Lucifer warring against The Almighty). This said, SUICIDE KINGS is a super sleeper which I believe will earn cult classic status. Walken is tremendous as a semi-retired Chicago Mob boss. He was...still is...the Underworld's Main Man. Denis Leary is Walken's chief Enforcer and b...buster. He is also very/lately fashion conscious with a $1500 pair of sting-ray (as in FISH) boots. A "cool head" he is, and is not...especially when wielding a lethal toaster off the squash of a dense, "minor league" sexual sadist who has affronted his Russel Crowe/LA Confidential sensibilities. Walken is a cool head to the max, however. He is kidnapped by an excellent ensemble cast who cut off his (favorite) ring finger as prelude to extorting $2 million from him to pay-off a hefty ransom to less-than-bright goons (one of them the unloveable outcast of "Everyone Loves Raymond")who kidnapped one of the ensemblees' sister. (Maybe). Johnny Galecki plays IRA. He is most guileless, hapless and hopeless of the Lakeshore Drive 5 who think they can get over on Chicago's Don C. "Ira," says Walken/Don Carlo, "You're the Man..." So we have major men and minor boy wonders matching wits to see who will ante-up some cash in a pseudo-convoluted plot with an almost tricky ending. But...it's better to travel hopefully than to arrive...as the boy/thug/wannabee's ruefully learn...SUICIDE KINGS is a traveling man's tale with lots of wicked clever, wicked funny time-outs. Leary's story about his pricey boots is priceless. The hot toaster episode is too hot. The sequence where Goon A almost shoots his partner, Goon B, in argument over territorial rights to a TV remote and a cartoon show about a wacky Count D is terrifying (yeah sure). The "Dog Story" related by Jay Mohr to his buddies (beguiled-by-Walken-the-Hood-with-the-Heart) brings these erstwhile desperados to their senses. (Don Carlo fed some noisey neighbors' dogs THE NOISEY NEIGHBORS! A genuine Mac-attack). If John Sayles were in charge, this film might have played straight as existential thriller with some genuinely rude moments. This LITTLE CHILLer might have gone a long way. But...as Christopher Walken, with hard-core yet suavely subtle menace re-reminds: Boys...This is your night to howl! SUICIDE KINGS is a head-hip trip. It howls BE GOOD lessons to boys, girls, friends, Romans and whoever thinks it's "bad" to be bad. ("Drugs make you brave?" ranks Don C. to "Doc Hank", played by Avery Chasten)...Remember: Ira's THE MAN...(Role model bewailing dad's marking bottles of top shelf scotch the buddy "thugs" slug; while pleading them to take off muddy shoes to avoid soiling Persian carpets)...in this clever, funny, wickedly amoral morality fable.

Review: I am greek and i know many movies going out at theatres in the US,don't make it to Europe.Imagine my surprise when i've read it didn't when out at theatres not even in the US.Excellent thought to keep things closed in a room most of the time,very good idea as a plot,Walken is bonded in a chair but he is the one that keeps his kidnappers "bonded",having only two people talking in most of the scenes created a "consipracy" atmosphere,liked the "payback" and "nowhere-to-hide" end.On the other hand,the four kids' acting hadn't anything special to offer,very few emotionally "strong" scenes,i would like the lawyer character not ot exists at all,nothing effecting the plot really happens until the last scenes.Very good directing job,not Tarantino but close enough,trully a hidden diamond.

Summary: A Great Who Done It Movie
Review: A great movie thats has twists and turns along with some humor from the whole cast. Christopher Walken played the part beautifully while the college students played there parts well. The only actor i had a problem with was Denis Leary. About a college students sister gettin kidnapped and the kidnappers askin for a ransom of 2 million dollars. The college kids take christopher walken (a former mob boss) hostage hopin that his conection can help them out. A real treat for people to see just a lil too much profanity for the kids.
