Rating: Summary: These men loved each other even in death! A FANTASTIC movie Review: Having lived in Steeltown USA, I felt every joy and pain these young men went through. My heart was pounding as the game of 'russian roulette' took on a life and death meaning to those who 'played' in a mindless culture. The absolute best war movie I have ever seen!'
Rating: Summary: Overlong film Review: The Deer Hunter is an overlong drama about the effects of war. This film is considered a war movie but they barely show any war scenes in this film. Sure, the scenes of Russian roulette are disturbing but then the film just goes into a long phase of boredom. I think this movie would have worked better if the characters were brothers rather than friends, that way the complete mental collapse would make much more sense.
Rating: Summary: Russian Roulette Review: As soon as we saw this movie, that is my kids and I we just had to play russian roulette. 2 of my kids died but thats how you play the game. Oh well.
Rating: Summary: An overlong, bloated film....... Review: The Deer Hunter is an overlong, bloated film consumed by a sense of its own self-importance.Giving it a best picture oscar was one of the worst blunders ever. The film is practically pointless and rambles on and on. A great anti-war picture? There are far, far better ones (Paths of Glory, All Quiet on the Western Front). Is Deer Hunter anti or pro anything? You bet. It is anti-intellectual and pro mindlessness.A self indulgent three hour symphony of incoherent sentimentality, inarticulate dialogue and congratulatory posturing.
Rating: Summary: Definitly a masterpiece!!!!! Review: Its one of the most depressing and best stories I have ever seen. The movie shows how life is if you go through a frighting war.It was so depressing that I was cring in most of the movie. It is a story of a man who loves to deer hunt (robert deniro)and his friend just got married and the other is getting married and then they get drafted into a terrible war.Deniro returs saftly and his friend didn't come back but was still alive (chistifer walken) and the other who got married lost his legs.Deniro goes back to look for him and when he finds him his life is based on russian ruleit.the war messed up his mind and he didn't know who he was.He ends up playing the game with deniro and walken looses and dies.At the end you are left with a very sad feeling in you.
Rating: Summary: "Deer Hunter:" a classic, timeless movie that still holds up Review: "The Deer Hunter" is one of those few movies from the Vietnam War era that still holds up today and is still as powerful and thought provoking now, in 1999 as it was when it was released in 1978. It features one of the best ensamble casts in cinematic history- DeNiro, Walken, Savage, Streep all give intensley dramatic performances. The story is sheer genious. "Deer Hunter" is one of those few movies that actually uses it's three hour running length to the greatest and most worthwile extents.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: Possibly the best war movie ever made. Possibly the best movie ever made. The Deer Hunter is more like a beautifully constructed play than any kind of movie before it (it is split into three different parts, or acts, and there is an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion; all are very clear). Although slow and long, The Deer Hunter is a film that should be seen and enjoyed by all.
Rating: Summary: a true veitnam story Review: I was in veitnam and this story is the best portral any film has ever done of that war. All the other vietnam movies like full metal jacket, apocalypse now, and platoon are too movie like. The Deer hunter is exactly what the experience of the vietnam was like
Rating: Summary: Brilliant and disturbing film Review: This movie was one of the most disturbing films that I've ever seen. I thought that it was a grueling, difficult and fascinating film to sit through and worth every difficult minute. Walken is brilliant and heart breaking in his role. The rest of the cast is solid and give terrific performances. When I came out of the theater after seeing it, I ran into a friend of mine who talked with me for over a half hour to calm me down. Otherwise, I probably would have wrecked the car driving home I was so upset by the film.
Rating: Summary: Dull & Boring Review: The Deer Hunter was awarded the Best Picture that should have gone to Apocalypse Now the next year. Very long with dull scenes that have nearly no actual truth to Vietnam. Boring script and acting make this one a pitiful three hour piece of trash.
