Rating: Summary: Good, but not the greatest. Review: If Cameron's Titanic was a ten, then this one's an eight. The effects, well . . .I have to say their pretty good for a tv-movie. But my family and friends didn't really think that the effects were good. Good subplot, but some of the action was disappointing. Especially the ending when the ship finally sinks. Watch this movie up to when the ship sinks, and then stick in the Cameron version and watch it plunge to the bottom.
Rating: Summary: Not What It Could Have Been Review: If you have already seen Cameron's TITANIC (who hasn't?), then DON'T BOTHER. This movie has pretty good special effects (for TV), but it lacks the power of good Titanic films. It runs like a long (often BORING) soap opera with stick-figure characters that resemble Cameron's characters way too much (somebody steal an early script??). Forget this one, that terrible rape scene and NO Thomas Andrews (the ship builder) and go watch Cameron's epic or the 1955 Night To Remember (the 2nd best Titanic movie out there).
Rating: Summary: Don't get your hopes up Review: If you've already seen James Cameron's Titanic, skip this one or you're in for a big disappointment. First of all the acting is atrocious!! They added a few well known names but even they can't carry this movie. Second of all, the creators of this film paid little attention to detail and accuracy. Most of the historical characters, such as Molly Brown are nothing more than characatures of themselves and badly done at that. The script could have been written by a Junior High school student. The effects are slightly higher than your average TV series but that's not saying much. The film realy stunk in my book. Don't waste your money on this one.
Rating: Summary: On Par with Cameron's epic... Review: Impressive re-telling of the Titanic disaster, with excellent performances by George C. Scott as the noble captain of the doomed vessel, and especially by the incredible Tim Curry as a truly odious villain - not his usual broad, "campy" bad guy, but a true, soul-chilling performance. As always, he steals the show. Gorgeous-looking, and terrific special effects, especially considering it's a TV movie...makes one wonder if Cameron drew some inspiration from this one. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Tells the story of the Titanic, Californian, and Carpathia Review: It seems that not much attention has been paid to this film, perhaps because of its made-for-TV status. It is accurate and follows what is known about the tragedy. Unlike James Cameron's Titanic, for example, where the Californian is not mentioned and minimal reference is made to the rescue effort of the Carpathia, those aspects of the story are played-out here. This movie tells the story as it is historically known with regard to the non-response of the Californian's Captain, Stanley Lord. Also well told is the superb response of the Carpathia's Captain, Arthur Rostron, in making every effort to reach the stricken Titanic before she sank.( An effort which won the real-life Captain Rostron a Congressional Medal of Honor.) The subplots are good, though many are of course fictitious and some a bit melodramatic, with a focus on many people on board, not just two. Acting is first rate. George C. Scott is excellent as Captain Smith. This is not a high-budget special effects feast, but there is plenty to see. If you would like a modernized "A Night to Remember" this movie will suit. Highly watchable and recommended.
Rating: Summary: bored Review: Maybe i'm missing something, but this thing bored the tears out of me.When it came on T.V. i was very excited. I've been a titanic buff for years. But by the end of the first hour i was channel surfing like mad. The movie was horribly unhistorical in many ways. For one the character of andrews, the ships builder was gone. The Captain was WAY more active during the sinking then he was in real life. (in reality he completly lost it. just kinda zoned out.) Then as if they needed more drama(you know 1500 people dying cold horrible deaths just isn't exciting enough),we get Tim Currey popping up in a life boat with a gun. I actually laughed out loud at that. If you want a good tv version of the titanic sinking watch S.O.S Titanic. It's a good solid effort. If you happen to think Romance books of the month are great original reading then maybe this movie's for you. To sum it up: a poor version of the titanic story written by people that believed there wasnt enough drama in the real story.( i honestly believe a million monkeys typing on a million typewriters couldn't have come up with anything worse.)
Rating: Summary: TO TELL YA THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS TITANIC MOVIE.... Review: Ok so we all have seen james camerons movie TITANIC which has very mad special effects and alot of history in it, though most of the historic parts from that movie were deleted for pacing. This one i might add is.. how can i put this odd. Ok sure this movie doesnt have great special effects and all since it was made for television or because the special effects people were too damned lazy to make it more realistic. But hey i aint a complainer, at least this movie has alot of historic parts in it and its about the Titanic and focused on the passengers than JACK AND ROSE in the other version. Ok in the begining it gets boring yadda yadda, though Alice Cleaver is a nut case, what kind of woman throws her baby off a train how dumb can you get (that was not shown in the movie it is talked about later on). Anyways as we continue Captain Smith talks to Officer Lowe on deck, its a bit obvious that there are only 2 funnels on the ship not four, well only in the animations or whatever they call it. Then we see Bruce Ismay walking down the Grand Staircase with a bunch of reporters, and where the hell is the glass dome? You see a round thing at the top but where is the glass dome? And the statue in the centre railing, for goodness sakes its supposed to be black or bronze not gold, also the dining room, it was supposed to be on D-deck not on A-deck. Also when the Titanic leaves Southampton wasn't the ship supposed to have a near miss with the New York, so why it aint in the movie. So some dude named Jamie stills a ticket on the Titanic and falls with some ugly cow who cant even have a proper accent for what natio her charecter is supposed to be, which by the way you can tell is American. Well Isabella who is played by Catherine Zeta Jones one of my fav people hates this guy.. then later we see them shagging, its like make up your mind you love him or not. Then we follow of actual people like the Allisons, the Astors, the Strauses ect. And also where fudge is Thomas Andrews? Then the Titanic hits the iceberg, which is kinda ok in that scene and all, then we follow through the events, and in the boiler room the water is supposed to come out from the side not from the roof, and you can tell tbat the room aint flooding. George C. Scott the guy who plays Captain Smith is ok, so we follow through the sinking, Alice takes the Allison baby into a boat, anyways i once remember that when the rockets were fired they burst into the air, but in this movie it just shows a little white ball. And the sinking effects a crap, but hey who is complaing? Laugh Out Loud. Anyways when the ship sinks it has a 2 minute mini clips of the ship sinking how bloody crap, i wanted more, which i believe the 4 hour version must have had heaps. So the ship sinks yadda yadda. The girl jamie likes gets raped by a steward played by Tim Curry, thats sad, no wonder why not many people remembers this movie. So Isabella's lover dies bowho, so she sees her husband and daughter in New York and they all live happily ever after. But as i said this movie is ok cause of the most historic parts and all, so yeh i recomend this movie to all and once you buy it enjoy. Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Sinks without a trace. Review: Sorry, disaster movies bring out the wicked punster in many of us.Let's keep this short, because the film isn't. Yawn, snort, and thud! Dreadful, simply dreadful. Poor George C. Scott is wasted despite trying to channel Patton from time to time. Catherine Zee-Jay has little to do except look woeful or seductive by turn. The soap opera melodrama surrounding her invented character is the central subplot to this horribly dull revisiting of the Titanic's fateful voyage. There are several other invented or elaborated intrigues woven around some exceptionally shoddy computer animation, most of which are poorly written, badly acted, and largely unbelieveable. There has never been a more hillbilly portrayal of "the Unsinkable" Molly Brown (Marilu Henner) -- I half-expected her brother Yosemite Sam to pop up. Tim Curry's thoroughly corrupt character (how did this chap ever get hired by the White Star line?) becomes more cartoonlike in his evil as the movie proceeds. And as other critics have noted, his rape of a passenger is more than a little gratuitous. The producers have no shame. There are a certain number of similarities to Cameron's blockbuster that give one pause -- both of these were in production at about the same time, yes? So who was "influenced" by who? And how? I have a hard time understanding why so many here think so highly of this turkey. But that's show biz.
Rating: Summary: Cameron Couldn't Dream Up A Movie This Good If He Wanted To Review: The latest Titanic with Winslet and DiCaprio is so over-rated it's sickening. I've just recently seen this version of the Titanic...and let me tell you...it put James Cameron to shame. The acting in this was amazing, especially Tim Curry, Catherine Zeta Jones, and George C. Scott, and the woman who played Molly Brown. Despite the fact that many people are disgusted by the rape scene, I don't see what's so graphic about it. It's true that it was unnecessary, but look at whats on TV nowadays! Hello people...they play a lot worse than that on the damn Disney channel. Tim Curry's character is the kind one loves to hate, and he does an amazing job for the part. It's true it seems he's always typecast as a villian, but this is the most purely evil role he's played yet! As much as I tried to hate his character...I couldn't...knowing that it was really Tim. You're guarenteed to love this movie, I believe it has set that standard for all Titanic movies, despite what many will say. DiCaprio couldn't act half as good as anyone on this version.
Rating: Summary: Horrible! Review: The movie was abolutly horrible. Special effects and plot were horrible. Did the guys who made the movie read a book about the Titanic? Guess not.
