Summary: Love the Show, but no DVD labeling was confusing
Review: Hi,
I love the show and ordered the DVD. I was surprised to see
no labeling on the DVD's and the fact they were too cheap to
provide the standard 6 DVD's and use both sides to save a few cents.

I enjoy watching a "Marathon" When I purchase a full season.
The fact that they did not label the DVD's and used both sided to consolidate DVD's made following the series in order difficult. Especially after droping one going to the player to change DVD's I was not sure till way into that episode that the wrong side was running.

Great show................BAD packaging

Summary: Wonderful!!!
Review: I honestly didn't think I needed a DVD player and then I learned of "The West Wing" 1st season coming out on DVD. I got a DVD player and thank goodness! This is the best show on television and I'm so glad I own this DVD. Don't miss out!

Summary: Terrific!
Review: I must say I've learned so much about our country, our history, the political process, and the list goes on. Since the show is fast-paced, this DVD set was a welcome addition to my DVD library -- I caught things during the DVD viewing that I'd missed during the original showing. I also enjoyed watching a few of the commentary shows and hearing their views on what was happening during filming of a particular segment, or their thoughts on strategy in setting up certain shots. Wow! This was well worth buying, and I'm looking forward to season 2... and 3, and ....

Summary: TV/DVD Boxed Set that is worth the money....
Review: I am not useually a fan of buying DVD boxed sets of TV shows, because TV shows are ment to be seen on TV, but the West Wing is that one exception because this show has everything you could want in a well cast movie, they just made it as a TV show, but the quality of the work itself is so unlike any show currently being made. It is well casted, well scripted, great production design, outstanding cinamatography, very in depth stories, just about everything you would see in a movie or a PBS production is in this show, it makes for great watching, and all the seasons of this show will make great DVDs to be added to anyone's collection.

Summary: Pretty good DVDs for THE excellent series
Review: As to be expected, the best show on television becomes a great DVD set.
This show's excellence cannot be emphasized enough. From the classic comedic and dramatic actors at seemingly every turn, to the beautiful set work, to the best direction in television. Where this show really shines, however, is in the scripts. Writer Aaron Sorkin penned 21 of 22 episodes this season, offering absolute classics like In Excelsis Deo, Take This Sabbath Day, He Shall From Time To Time, The Crackpots and These Women, and many others; leading in to the edge-of-your-seat season finale. Truly, I could use this whole review and more to talk about the greatness of this series.
The DVDs themselves were fairly well done. As a fan of the series, I think I expected a lot, and much of it was delivered. The set comes in 4 DVDs, 3 of them double sided with all of the episodes. The fourth is a special features disc, featuring a few behind-the-scenes specials, bloopers, and some non-consequential deleted scenes. The discs really become lively, though, in the commentary tracks on 5 episodes between Sorkin and director/exec. producer Thomas Schlammee, two gentlemen who are clearly good friends and know what they are talking about. The transfer quality of the episodes is simply beautiful. The sound could maybe have used a bit more work, but was all-in-all pretty good.
However, one should not let the DVD quality prevent them from purchasing the greatest series in television history. Buy it, watch it, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Best show on TV!
Review: The West Wing is arguably the most intelligent show on TV. I think that the show has done much to teach people about American Government. The show tackles real-life issues and has characters that have their own foibles. The show is a must see for all!!!!

Summary: 8 episodes per DVD--hooray!
Review: As most of the other reviews state, the West Wing is a great show--great acting, great script, and great sets.

What really impressed me about this DVD release, however, was that finally someone has used the DVD as it should be used--by packing 4 episodes on each side and making it double sided, they've fit 8 episodes on each disc. In my opinion, this is the way all tv shows on dvd could be released. For a half hour show, for instance, they could fit 16 episodes on a disc, and a whole season would fit on a two disc set. It would save time, money, and waste if everyone releasing DVDs would follow the excellent example provided by this outstanding DVD release of the West Wing.

Summary: The Way It SHOULD Be !
Review: The West Wing is one of my all-time favorite television shows; ever! While several comments have talked about show itself, I want to talk a little about the DVD.

When I first saw that there were only 4 DVD's in this box set, I was concerned about the content. But, to my surprise, they have placed content on both sides of DVD 1-3, with the extra's on DVD four.

My only complaint about the extra material is that it is lacking the closed captioning that I need to understand the show.

My only question is, WHEN IS THE SECOND, THIRD, AND FOURTH SEASON COMING OUT?

Summary: Tremendous
Review: I just received my West Wing DVD yesterday and am extremely excited to finally be able to won my all-time favorite TV show. I didn't really get into it until partway through season 1, so I'm also excited to see some of the great early episodes. It's amazing to me how much the show has changed from the first season to now. It seems to have gone downhill a bit towards the end of last season and the beginning of this season. I love being able to see all the episodes again at my leisure. I would definitely reccomend for any fan of the show.

Summary: Great show, mediocre extras
Review: I have to agree with some other reviewers that the extras here aren't too impressive. Five episodes have commentary tracks, but there're mostly back-patting by the writer and directors. And they're not very chatty either, for such a talkative show...sometimes you forget that you're listening to a commentary.

Still, the show alone is worth the price of the DVD, so I wasn't too disappointed. I believe the first two seasons were not broadcast in widescreen, so it's no surprise that the DVD isn't either.
